Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Cynthia had no interest in what was to happen next and turned to leave directly. Selene wanted to stop her, but a single look from Cynthia sent her back, intimidated.
Just as she stepped out, Cynthia almost bumped into Jeffrey who was rushing over. He glared at her viciously and hurried inside, clearly on a
mission to deal with Roseanne’s desire
Feeling pretty good, Cynthia walked outside. There, in front of her, was a familiar Maybach. She had been in this car once–it was Liam’s.
“What’s he doing here at this time? Filled with curiosity, she walked over just as the rear window of the car rolled down, revealing Liam’s delicate and handsome features
“Get in,” he said, in a concise manner, and then returned to bowing his head.
Cynthia obediently got in the car and noticed his laptop on his legs, his fingers rapidly typing away. His well–defined fingers danced on the black keyboard, a strangely captivating sight
“Why are you here?” Cynthia asked, not presuming he had come specifically for her.
Liam looked up at her somewhat downcast face and said seriously. “If you want to visit your family in the future, just let me know. I can accompany you.”
“No need, Cynthia began, meaning to say she could handle it alone, but he cut her off.
“We’re married. It’s i my duty as your husband to not let you suffer any discomfort. I know enough about your family. You don’t have to put on a brave front.” In Liam’s view, Cynthia was the
vulnerable one in need of his protection.
Hearing the concern in his voice, concern that seemed deeper than her father’s, Cynthia was moved, even though she hadn’t been at a disadvantage today. Maybe because of the betrayal of family she had experienced, or that her own grievances were finally understood by someone else, Cynthia looked visibly upset, her head lowered, sitting silently in the car.
After a moment, she felt a large hand gently stroking her head. Confused, she looked up towards its owner.
Catching her gaze, Liam didn’t stop. “Don’t all you girls like to be coaxed like this?” NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
“Who have you been comforting“” Cynthia was even more puzzled. Which woman can let you, a CEO, comfort her this way?”
*I had a female Golden Retriever when I was a child, I always coaxed her like this,” Liam casually replied.
Cynthia’s eyes widened in disbelief and, with a fierce swipe, she knocked his hand away. Pointing at her nose, she accused, “You’re comparing me to
dog?”
“You’re much better behaved than a dog” Liam said with a smile, closing his laptop, charmed by her pouting.
This playful exchange helped Cynthia forget the unpleasant episode with the Larson family for a while.
When they were back at Regalian Garden, Winnic had already prepared dinner.
The episode of being compared to a dog in the car still on her mind, Cynthia kept her distance from Liam at the dinner table, the two of them sitting at opposite ends. After dinner, Cynthia returned to her bedroom while Liam headed to his study.
He had heard about Cynthia’s trip to the Larson residence in the afternoon. Worried that she might be mistreated since he knew what her relatives were like, he had postponed his work to follow her and had been waiting outside. Now, he had to catch up on his afternoon’s work.
After taking a bath, Cynthia thought of spending the night alone with him, and considering Liam’s robust physique, she felt her back ache. And that was why she had deliberately shown her anger earlier, hoping to get through the night peacefully
She lay on the soft big bed, watching the clock hand point towards eleven and not seeing him return. She wondered, a bit concerned, ‘Is he angry? Regretting that he picked me up today?
