Chapter 1414
That night, Waverly was indeed kept in the holding cell, but just as expected, she slept like a baby. When the policewoman came to get her, she looked incredibly ghastly.
"Hey, are you homeless or something? Do you know where this place is? How could you sleep so well here?"
It was a miracle that she could fall asleep here, but it was an even greater miracle that she was safe!
Indeed, odd events occurred every year, but that year had a particularly frequent occurrence of such events!
Waverly scratched at her eye, then looked at the policewoman in silence. Could she just tell her that this was what she wanted? She just wanted to be alone all night!
With the new sunrise, it meant that the bet was over!
She was flipping through the record book in her hand when the policewoman said, "You may leave now!"
"Huh?"
After being detained for an entire night, she didn't even ask for her records of the incident?
A look of doubt and hesitation flashed across Waverly's eyes. Could this be some kind of trap?
It mustn't be!
This was a real detention center at the police station! Besides, there were other detainees too!
"What, do you prefer a longer stay?"
"No at all!"
Getting up, Waverly was still a little puzzled. "Well... don't you need my signature?"
"No."
The policewoman quickly scribbled something before turning to Waverly.
"The suspect of Room 1606 has said on record that you both were there on your own accord and that there were no financial transactions involved! His urine test came back positive, but your blood test shows you' re clean, so you may leave!" "Oh okay, thank you!"
No wonder they didn't need her to leave her records. Well, that sure saved her the trouble! It was definitely not something to be proud of!
Positive?
Was he actually a drughead or was this the effect of the drug she gave him? Although that shouldn't be the case because she had only spent less than three hundred dollars on the order. Did drugs really come that cheap?
Waverly shook the idea out of her head. Everything was fine!
She was young and beautiful, and she was never going to do something like this again in the future!
Waverly was given a curt warning by the policewoman before she was let out. After that, she walked out with a smile.
After a night of hard work, Waverly was both physically and mentally exhausted. But her experience that night also gave her confidence in strategizing. She knew that as long as she wanted, her intelligence was enough to protect herself.
Being able to rely on oneself was a pretty darn good feeling!
She shut her eyes and breathed in deep. After giving herself a good stretch, Waverly began walking leisurely, ready to take her stiff flesh and bones to a taxi.
A few steps later, she heard the harsh sound of a horn behind her before a familiar black car pulled up next to her. When the window rolled downwards, a man's voice that she was all too familiar with sounded.
"Get in!"
Wyatt?
What was he doing here? Was he here to make fun of her?
Waverly had been initially dispirited, but as soon as she realized who it was, she was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. She felt the anger rush to her chest, making her feel like she was about to explode.
She tightened her grip on her clothes, shifted her gaze away and accelerated her pace.
Wyatt's migraine which he had been suffering from for the entire night instantly intensified as he watched the receding figure from his car.
That night, although he bunked in a small hotel nearby, he tossed and turned, unable to fall into slumber. In his sleepless daze, he got up and downed two glasses of wine in hopes to finally fall asleep but to no avail.
At dawn, he sat up and leaned against the bed to take a quick nap, for fear of oversleeping and missing Waverly because she would be let out the moment the clock struck half past eight in the morning, When the clock did, he was already waiting outside.
He wasn't sure whether it was guilt he felt, but his chest had been tight with
anxiety ever since she sat at the gambling table the night before!
Comparatively, he might have been the truly tormented one that night.
The car's engine started and they began tailing her.
Wyatt yelled out annoyedly, "Get in the car!"
Wyatt was caught in the heat of the chase, yelling and shouting along the way white Waverly, on the other hand, was like a gust of wind
striding forward with large, confident steps. The only thing they shared in common was that they were both angry at each other!
Waverly blamed him for ignoring her, for letting her get mocked by a man and getting taken advantage of. Wyatt blamed her for not being ungrateful about being saved.
On the street, one party was running away in anger while the other was running after them, equally mad. Both were like firecrackers that were lit, just waiting to blow up!
At the junction, Waverly took a sharp turn into the alley and trotted away.
The car couldn't follow into the narrow alley, so Wyatt's face turned green with anger.
He pushed the car door open and immediately hopped off. With just a few big strides, he had already caught up with her. He reached out for her wrist. "Waverly, are you done fooling around?"
She was the one who stubbornly made a bet and then lost it, yet she still wanted to run away after a night of reflection at the police station's holding cell?
Waverly shook his hand away and replied in anger, "Mr. Wyatt! There's no audience around, so save your act and fake niceties!"
Nothing good would come out of him being here!
"I don't need them!"
Thinking of the disgusting things he did the night before, Waverly wanted nothing more than to destroy him. "Next time you need something from me, it'll be three million each time, not a penny less!"
Even if they were partners, they were supposed to have mutual respect for each other during their time of partnership. Yet he used her as bet? Did they think of her as a person with no feelings?
"If not, kindly stay the f*ck away from me!"
Waverly pulled her hand back, then continued to walk forward.
Wyatt had been furious at first, but upon seeing her hair in a mess, her clothes disorganized, his heart went soft. The first thing that came to mind was Mr. Andrews's embrace after the gamble and him leaving a glaring kiss on her cheek.
That lecher, he-
She must have suffered and gotten taken advantage of by that man before they got dragged out of their hotel room by the police.
Although he was furious, he could barely stand letting her suffer the way she did!
It was even more distressing for him to see her miserably exhausted face as she stood fatigued in the middle of a lonely alley. Guilt sunk its teeth into Wyatt and he couldn't deny how terrible he felt!
He had originally brought her to the
club for good fun, but he had not expected Mr. Andrews to be there. He didn't have time to inform her in advance of the situation, but he
definitely didn't expect for thin net
turn out the way they did! Everything had been well under his control - he clearly could have gotten what he wanted without hurting her, but she just had to act like a brat and lost that damned bet!
Thinking about how she had lost control from the night before, Wyatty felt both angry and guilty. She was just so stubborn, to a fault at that! She would rather risk
getting herself hurt than mess things up for him!noveldrama
Was she stupid, or dumb?
How ridiculous!
Though he was obviously angered, he still turned around and chased after her.
"Waverly, let me send you back-"
What do you think?
