“Alicia Fox?” murmured Rebecca, bending over to peer at the guest list for her husband’s birthday party that evening.
Yes, Ma’am, replied Lucy, her private servant.
Rebecca took a long breath, gripping the guest list tightly. “Where’s Mr. Specter?” she asked, her face turning pale as if all her blood had been drained by some unseen force.
“He’s in the library, Ma’am. You look pale, are you alright?” Lucy asked, concerned. Rebecca didn’t answer; she hurried out of her room towards the library located on the first floor of the massive mansion.
She knocked on the door twice, but there was no answer. Impatiently, she opened the door to find Harvey Specter, her husband, standing with his back to her, busy talking on the phone. Hearing footsteps approaching, Harvey turned and was momentarily surprised. He quickly ended the call and coughed twice.
“Becky? What’s wrong?” he asked, tucking his phone into his trouser pocket.
Rebecca cleared her throat. “Did you update the guest list for tonight?” she asked, staring sharply at her husband.
Harvey frowned, “I don’t know, I don’t remember. Is there a problem?”
“Alicia Fox, did you invite her?” Rebecca asked, not bothering to conceal her jealousy.
Harvey turned his face to his desk, pretending to be busy tidying up the scattered documents on it. “Well, she’s an old friend of mine…”
“And also your ex–girlfriend?” Becky retorted sharply.
“Becky, don’t start, okay? The party is starting in a few hours, can we discuss something more important? I have a teleconference call with my marketing team, shouldn’t you get ready?” Harvey didn’t even look at Rebecca; he busied himself with opening his laptop and sitting on his expensive leather chair.
Rebecca felt her whole body tremble, but she had no choice but to leave the library as Harvey had already started a conversation with Michael, his marketing guy. Her footsteps felt heavy as she walked through the corridor towards the winding staircase to the second floor.
“Maan venir makeup artist, and hairstylist have arrived, suddenly Lucy was walking beside her, panting as she had run from the front door. Rebecca nodded, no longer interested in the party. “Have you ever seen her?” she asked softly.
Excuse me? Lucy frowned in confusion.
“Alicia Fox, have you ever seen her?” Rebecca asked more calmly, she couldn’t afford to appear weak. She asked Lucy because before becoming her private servant, Lucy was working with Harvey.
Lucy nodded hesitantly, “Yes Ma’am.”
“Is she beautiful?” she asked, stopping her steps, a little afraid to hear Lucy’s answer.
“Um, she is fine, Lucy tried to answer neutrally.
Rebecca squeezed her cold, sweaty fingers and hurried to her room where the makeup artist and hairstylist were already waiting for her.
“Ma’am, how would you like to look for the party later?” the makeup artist asked, putting a sheet mask on Rebecca’s face.
“Unbeatable,” Rebecca replied almost without opening her mouth. The makeup artist and some of her assistants looked at each other, “Very well, Ma’am! We’ll make you look unbeatable!”
As the brushes moved on her face, Rebecca closed her eyes tightly. Suddenly, all those memories came flooding back.
Three years ago,
The hotel room was almost completely dark, with only a faint glow from the lights of skyscrapers. Rebecca felt like she was floating due to the effects of the alcohol she had consumed at the party before. Half–conscious, she kicked off her high heels and staggered towards the bed, but before she could reach it, suddenly the door behind her opened from outside and someone entered. She spun around to find someone she knew well standing just a few feet away from her. He was Harvey Specter, a man who caused her heart to beat faster over the past year. She admired him, and even worse, she had fallen in love with him.
Not entirely sure what she was seeing, she shook her head a few times, trying to focus.
“Why is Harvey Specter here?” she thought, struggling to maintain her balance and avoid stumbling to the floor.
Before she got the answer, suddenly Harvey walked closer to her while taking off his suit. She was about to open her mouth to greet him, but her lips were immediately. sealed by a gentle kiss that gradually turned into a passionate one.
She cursed herself as she should have pushed Harvey away and scolded him, but he was the love of her life. She craved him, wanted his touch more than anything. The intense feelings, combined with the alcohol’s effect, instantly ignited her passion. She kissed him back and didn’t resist as his hands moved to unzip her dress.
“I want you, I’m crazy about you“Harvey whispered into her ear, making her unable to resist any longer. She melted, feeling so certain that her love was not unrequited.
“Alicia…
Rebecca’s body stiffened immediately, she was very shocked.
‘He must have entered the wrong room!‘ a voice screamed in her head. She knew normally a woman in her position would shout in anger and kick him out of her room, but her body refused that idea. She couldn’t resist as he seated her on the bed and knelt before her. He has a strong charm, and she was sure they were meant to be together.
She closed her eyes and everything happened, something that she never dared to imagine before, she finally lost her virginity for the first time in her life with the man she adored the most.
“I love you, Alicia,” whispered Harvey right in her ear.
Rebecca felt her chest tighten upon hearing those words, making it hard for her to breathe, and suddenly, she choked.
“Ma’am, are you alright?” the makeup artist asked with concern. Rebecca opened her eyes and immediately realized that she had been sucked too deeply into her past. She smiled awkwardly, then met her own reflection in the mirror. If only she had refused when Harvey’s grandfather asked her to marry Harvey after that embarrassing room mix–up, perhaps everything would be different now. She understood that Harvey married her out of obligation, not out of love, simply to secure his inheritance. Yet, foolishly, she had held onto the hope that one day he would genuinely love her.
Three hours later,
Wed, Aug 14
“Ma’am, the guests have filled the party room Are you ready to come out now?” asked Lucy hesitantly.
Rebecca sighed deeply, “Is she there?”
“Excuse me, Ma’am?”
“You know who I mean, is she there?” Rebecca turned around, looking at Lucy with her beautiful hazel eyes.
“Yes Ma’am,” answered Lucy, feeling bad for her madam.
Rebecca took a long breath, holding back a stabbing pain in her chest. She cleared her throat twice. And where is my husband?”
Suddenly, Lucy grabbed the remote from the table and pointed it toward the curtains. covering the giant glass window in Harvey and Rebecca’s room. The curtains slowly opened, revealing the view of the swimming pool and garden where the party was being held in full swing. “He’s there, Ma’am,” Lucy said stiffly.
Rebecca followed Lucy’s gaze, and her heart shattered instantly…
