Chapter 149
Meanwhile, Edward, who was in the kitchen, remained clueless about his parents' plan. They were already on the move to end any potential threat to his relationship.
At that moment, he was preparing the last dish.
"Your dad looks pretty serious," Janice casually remarked.
Edward glanced at her. "He's a government official."
A government official?
Janice had heard of this before, but she never knew exactly what Robert did. Still, this wasn't something she could just outright ask, so she let the topic drop.
After washing her hands, she helped carry the finished dishes to the dining table. Each dish was an absolute feast for the senses. She hadn't expected the food to look this good. The only question left was... how did it taste?
"Mr. and Ms. Moore, it's time to eat," Janice called them over.
Just as she spoke, the doorbell rang.
Barbara got up to open the door, but Janice quickly stopped her. "I'll get it. You should sit down."
When she opened the door, she was met with Matilda, who had come bearing gifts.
As soon as they saw each other, Matilda beamed with delight and pulled Janice into a warm hug. "Hello, my sister-in-law."
Unlike her usual composed demeanor at work, Matilda was much more easygoing in private.
The title 'sister-in-law' felt strange to Janice. After all, her relationship with Edward wasn't real, so this title felt undeserved.
"Come in," she said, stepping aside.
"This is for you." Matilda handed over the gift.
Janice hesitated when she saw the luxury brand. "I don't actually need anything."
"That doesn't matter. As your future sister-in-law, this is just a small token of appreciation. Take it."
Barbara chimed in, "Janice, there's no need to be polite with her. She'll just blow all her money on food and drinks anyway."
Janice had no choice but to accept the gift. "Thank you."
She made a note to herself to return the favor later.
"No need for formalities!"
Matilda changed into her indoor slipper, washed her hands, and made her way to the dining room. The moment she saw the table, her eyes widened. "Who made all this? My big brother?"
Barbara sighed and corrected her, "Just call him Edward."
"Fine, Edward, then." Matilda was still shocked. "Edward, you actually cooked?"
Right on cue, Edward came out of the kitchen carrying the last dish. "Why wouldn't I?"noveldrama
"No. It's just you-"
Edward cut her off, completely unfazed. "I made it for my girlfriend."
The Moores were speechless.
So, they were just lucky enough to get a taste?
Still, Robert didn't mind at all. It was
rare to have his son personally cook for the family. He couldn't recall a time this had ever happened before.
As everyone took their seats, Robert's gaze flickered between Janice and the dishes on the table.
Sure enough, when a man truly liked someone, he naturally developed a sense of responsibility. That was a good thing.
"My brother cooked? This calls for a drink!" Matilda hopped up and ran to Edwards' wine collection before returning with a bottle of red wine.
Perhaps because the atmosphere was so pleasant, even Edward didn't refuse.
Once the wine was poured, Robert unexpectedly turned to Janice and raised his glass. "I would like to thank you."
Janice was startled.
Quickly, she picked up her glass with both hands and stood up. "Mr. Moore, there's no need for that. Edward did all the work."
Robert shook his head.
"No, I want to thank you for keeping him company. His cold and distant personality must be difficult for you."
Janice glanced at Edward, her lips curving into a soft smile. Then, she clinked glasses with Robert, took a sip of wine, and sat back down.
"Mr. and Ms. Moore, Edwards'
personality is great. He's
straightforward and doesn't prattle. I
like that about him, and it suits me well. You don't have to worry"
She knew she had to say something to put his parents at ease.
What do you think?
