Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 9

Title: Making her heart flutter

Maybelline Walter POV

“How are you feeling, sister-in-law?” The Miguel guy smiled at me, and I slowly nodded. Lily was busy gushing over him and it wasn’t unexpected because she had always had a thing for cute guys.

“I’m much better now, thank you,” I replied to him, and he nodded with a smile lingering on his face.

“I’m sorry I came quite late yesterday,” He apologized, and even though I had many questions to ask him, I nodded instead.

“Thanks for saving me,”

“It’s my job to protect you as my brother’s wife,” He smiled at me, and I slowly nodded.

The door opened and Miles walked in with his hands tucked inside his pockets.

“Adelie is making the food now. It’ll be ready in a while,” Miles said to me as he came to sit beside me on the bed after Lily quickly stood up. I looked over to Lily and gave her the ‘Are you seeing what I’ve been telling you’ look, but the stupid girl just shrugged.

“I will excuse you two then…” Lily said then came to hug me tightly.

“I’m sorry, but I need to leave now. I need to prepare for tomorrow’s work,” She whined, and I nodded.

“I’ll call you,” I said to her as she pulled away from me.

Furthermore, Lily turned to Miguel who was still standing inside the room.

“Mr. Miguel… Can you please drive me home? My head still hurts a bit and I don’t think I can drive,” She pleaded with Miguel but in a way that looked like she was trying to flirt with him. The look on Miguel’s face confirmed that she was really flirting with him. Where did I get this kind of foolish friend, please?

“I’m sorry, but I think I have something to deal with back here,” I know how it feels to be rejected, so I could imagine how terrible my innocent friend must’ve felt when Miguel turned her down.

“She’s our in-law, Miguel. Don’t be rude to her,” Mr. Miles scolded his brother, and my cheeks flushed, not leaving my heart out as it fluttered. Why was I feeling this way?

“It’s fine, Mr. Miles. I’ll just take a cab,” Lily said politely as she forced a smile, but I knew that deep inside her she wanted him to take her home.

“Don’t listen to Miguel. He will take you home,” Mr. Miles said to her then turned to Miguel.

“Let’s make it snappy, Ms Lily,” Miguel said politely then smiled at me and finally left with Lily, leaving just me and Miles back here.

“How are you feeling now?” Miles turned to me and asked with concern resounding in his voice.

“Hmm… I’m much better now,” I managed to reply to him, and he nodded.

“Uhm… I’m sorry for interrupting your meeting. I must’ve caused you trouble,” I said almost in a whisper.All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

“It’s fine,” He replied to me casually. An awkward silence crept into the atmosphere, and I felt uncomfortable having him around, especially with my heart which kept pounding hard against my chest like it was going to explode.

“Are you ok?” He asked as he brought his hand forth to touch my forehead, but I flinched nervously, and he slowly balled his fingers into a fist while still having his hand hung in the air. It was already getting so damn awkward, but the knock on the door made me feel relieved.

“Your food is ready, ma’am,” That was Adelie’s voice.

“I will go get it,” I quickly removed the duvet covering my body and was about to leave the bed, but he stood up and went for the door. I watched as he pulled the door open, took the tray of food from Adelie, then closed the door gently and walked over to me. It’s crazy how I admired everything he was doing, right? It suddenly felt like he was so perfect. It felt like he does everything in the most perfect way which no one had ever done before.

“He is not your type, remember?” I reminded myself as I turned my face away, but my inner voice reminded me that this man was the father of the baby growing inside my stomach.

As the thought of the baby flashed through my mind, I rubbed my stomach stylishly and gently in a way he wouldn’t notice anything weird.

“Are you ok? Is your stomach hurting?” My heart fluttered when he asked me, and the way his eyes pierced carefully at me made my breath hitch subconsciously.

“I’m fine. I’m just… hungry,” I lied to him, and he slowly nodded.

“Come on… Your food is here,” He sat on the bed in a meditation pose, his legs folded with the tray on top of them.

“Is it not hot?” I had to ask as I watched him open the steamy food.

“Not that hot,” He replied to me casually as he pulled up the sleeve of his shirt to his elbow, revealing his masculine hands.

“The doctor said you needed to rest. So, permit me to feed you,” He said to me in the gentlest and calmest voice as he dug into the food. My fingers itched to touch his long shiny wavy hair. Have I talked about how long my boss’s hair is? Well, although his hair wasn’t as long as that of a woman, but it was really longer than every normal man’s hair. Always styled beautifully.

“Can I feed you?” He finally looked at me, and my heart missed a beat as it felt like he was looking through my soul. I swallowed nothing, cleared my throat, and quickly turned my face away. I tried to breathe normally, but it kept hitching and it felt like I was suffocating.

“Are you ok? You are sweating,” He raised one of his eyebrows, something I found so sexy. Is he doing all these intentionally to seduce me? I asked myself as I stared at him uncontrollably.

“Are you ok, May?” The way he pronounced my name made me grab the duvet as a crazy thought flashed through my mind. I had no idea how things happened that night, but somehow, I wanted it to happen again just so I could hear him moan that name.

“Don’t be silly, May. You are losing it,” I slapped myself mentally and swallowed nothing.

“Uhm… Ye… yeah, I’m fine. And the food… Don’t worry, I will help myself,” I stuttered as I took the tray from him, but my hands trembled slightly as I held the tray in my hand.

“I’ll help you with that,” He took the tray back from me, and this time, I quickly stood up from the bed.

“You can leave… I will take care of myself. Uhm… I need to use the restroom,” I rushed my words and dashed into the bathroom right away, slamming the door behind me. I crashed against the door and released a thick breath as I rested my head on the door.

“What is wrong with you, May?” I whispered as I closed my eyes.

“He is not your type, May. Never forget that,” I reminded myself and breathed out tiredly…
