Evershining Stars, Everlasting Love

Chapter 22 Surprisingly come back home

After I left the hospital, I felt a little bit hot in the autumn of Fu City as the temperature was still high during October. I went back to my apartment, took a shower and crawled into bed to rest because I had a late shift at night.

I didn't know how long I slept, I saw 4 p.m. on the screen when I picked up my phone, so I got up, washed up, cooked something to eat, and went to the office to change shifts with my colleague.

I've never had a night shift before, so I was ridiculed by my colleague when I felt so tired and kept yawning and wiped tears around 10:00.

Suddenly, my phone rang, I saw that it was Vince so I picked up the phone happily and pressed the answer button.

"Where are you?" Vince sounded a little serious.

"At home." I lied, I hadn't told him I had found a job, I changed shifts today because I had to meet his grandmother, it was only ten o'clock and I still needed to work three more hours before I could get off work. I lied because he's away on a business trip, and I only took night shift today.

"Really?" He sounded a little irritated, questioning me.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.

"Really." I responded in a low voice, just then my colleague called me, "Nance, come here, the car arrived."

"Whose voice?" Suspicion grew in his voice.

I explained, "It's TV, I'm watching it, I'll talk to you later." After that, I hung up his phone and then hurried out with the typed list.

Working at night was even more tedious than ordinary work at day, and by the time I walked out of the office after work, I felt a bit cold, the temperature difference in late autumn was too great at early-midnight. I shrank my shoulders and walked slowly.

About two o'clock in the morning, I got off my first night shift. No buses, no taxis, I walked alone. At this time my colleague Shi Chen rode a scooter past me and stopped, he asked, "Hey, beauty, do you want a ride?"

I looked at his tiny scooter and asked with worries, "Are you sure I won't fall apart when I sit on it?"

He laughed, "Come on, it's too dangerous for a girl to go home so late."

Shi Chen was right, it was the first time that I came home so late, and I should be grateful that the company treated me well to let me work night shift today.

After Shi Chen's repeated convincing, I got into his flimsy-looking scooter. He drove very slowly and did not talk to me on the way, and soon, he sent me to the entrance of my residential area.

I waved goodbye to him and walked straight into my residential area. After going through the access control, I pressed the elevator, went upstairs, took out my key to open the door, closed the door, turned on the light and was shocked when I turned around and saw Vince.

I thought he was on a business trip for half a month, but it's only been a few days and he's back. I went forward and asked delightedly, "Why didn't you tell me before you came back?"

Vince looked at me without saying a word, his eyes were cold.

I noticed something different about him and suddenly thought about his phone call tonight, guessing that maybe he'd be at my apartment by then, and right now he was angry that I had lied to him.

"You're angry?" I walked up to him quietly, took his big hand and shook it. I teased him, "Don't be mad, I got a job, I have to work."

Vince shook my hand off heavily, he got up and walked around, he glanced at me and said, "Do my women need to push herself forward and come back home until midnight?"

I was so aggravated that I explained, "I was supposed to be on day shift because..."

"Nance, do you think I can't afford to let you live a good life? Or have you been trying to cut me off since the beginning?" Vince's words made me feel horrible, I could see doubts and disgust in his eyes exactly.

I shook my head and moved forward, hugging him in his back, "Vince, don't act like that, I just want to have a job so I can be independent." "Independent?" Vince snapped, "Do you have any idea how many hours I didn't close my eyes and was so eager to come back to see you, yet I waited you four hours, and what excuse are you going to use this time?"

My nose was sore and tears rolling down on my cheek, I didn't know he was waiting for me, if I knew, I would have come back even if I needed to leave work early.

Vince got rid of my hold on his waist forcefully and turned around, his deepest eyes looking at me who was crying tiredly, his voice not as serious as it was, "I'm going home, I've been delayed too long because of you."

After he said that, he pulled his luggage and walked past me slowly.

I've been with Vince for a long time, he had never felt it was a waste of time to stay with me, and now he's saying those seemingly normal but cruel words because I came back home late.

The sound of the door opening shook my nerves and I turned my head in a panic, fearing that his leaving right now was an implied consent of breaking up with me, so I yelled at his back, "I'm pregnant."

I felt his body trembled, his hand remaining on the door handle for a long moment before he turned around slowly and looked at me. Without waiting for him to come to me, I trotted several steps forward and threw myself tightly into his arms, I said seriously once more, "Vince, I'm pregnant."
