FALLING FOR A HEARTLESS BETA

CHAPTER 22

=-Dale’s POV=-

The next day, I woke up with a headache. I immediately called Amber but she didn’t seem to hear me, so I went downstairs even though my head felt like it was going to split open from the pain.

When I got to the kitchen, I didn’t see her, and it looked like she didn’t cook anything. When I looked up at the wall clock to check the time, I frowned because it was already late. It’s almost eight in the morning but she hasn’t shown up in the kitchen yet.

“Amber!” I shouted for her name as soon as I reached the maid’s quarter. “Amber, where are you?” I screamed again then I definitely heard a soft rustling inside her bedroom as if she has just woken up.

Then, she opened the door.

“What took you so long to open the damn door, Amber? Do you know what is it now? It’s later and yet, you haven’t cooked anything! We have a guest, remember?”

I was so enraged when I discovered that she woke up late that seeing her uncombed startled me.

“How dare you show your unkempt face to me?”

I scolded her about her uncombed hair as well as her unwashed face. Then, I realized that I wasn’t able to take a shower too.

“Are you asking if I need something? What time is it now Amber?  You haven’t cooked breakfast yet! Are you going to starve Jacob and me?” I shouted at her again.

“I’m sorry, Dale, but I’m not feeling well today,” she responded.

“What did you say? So, are you going to tell me that you woke up with a high fever and you don’t know why you suddenly got sick?”

“It’s the truth, Dale. I really woke up with a high fever, and I don’t know why I got sick all of a sudden,” she explained.

“And then? What do you want to happen? Should I be the one to cook?”

“I didn’t say anything like that Dale,” she replied.

“Then, what are you waiting for? Go and start cooking now! Do you have an idea that I have been hungry since I woke up?” I shouted at her again but then I noticed that she was about to cry.

Did I say something so bad to her? She looked as if she was deeply hurt by my words, but she had no reason to do that. I just told him to do her job, and cooking was part of her job description.

Why was she making a big deal out of it?

“I’m going to cook now,” she said and hurriedly returned to her small room to fix herself.

I didn’t wait for the woman to come out of her bedroom. I went straight to the kitchen and list down the food I wanted to have for breakfast. When five minutes have passed and she didn’t come yet, I decided to leave.

However, I met her in the corridor, and she really looked as if she was sick. Then, I noticed that she kept on pulling his hair.

“What are you doing, Amber?” I asked her.

“I told you I got a headache, Dale. Herlie taught me how to make myself feel better whenever I have a headache,” she answered.

“And pulling your hair like that can help?”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Yes,” she answered.

“And you believed her?”

“Of course. It always makes me feel better,” she said.

“Is that so? Then why are you still standing there? If you are feeling better now, then move your ass and start cooking! Do I need to say more?”

“I’m sorry, Dale,” she said and then she entered the kitchen.

I planned to check on Jacob but then I heard her take several deep breaths. She sighed heavily on her way to the kitchen, so I changed my mind. I followed her and asked her to prepare a cup of coffee for Jacob.

Jacob was probably awake and I knew that he would require a cup as soon as he would get up.

“Just a cup for Alpha Jacob?” she asked.

“Use your common sense, Amber!” I snapped at her stupid question.

“Alright. Two cups of brewed coffee coming up, Master!”

“Make it fast. I will take it to his room,” I told her and then she exclaimed her surprise at my statement. “Why are you surprised, Amber? Do you want to take the coffee by yourself? Are you that excited to see your savior again?”

“I didn’t say anything like that Dale. I was just surprised that you would take it there,” she answered.

“Okay. The coffee?”

“Oh, hold on,” she answered and then she hurried to brew our coffee.

After she placed the two cups of coffee in a serving tray, she immediately handed them to me. I accepted the tray without question but before leaving the kitchen, I turned around to see her face one more time. Unfortunately, she was already busy cooking.

As an orphan, I was raised by missionaries, but a childless couple adopted me. It was fun at first but it turned out that they were so busy raising a kid like me. Most of the time, I was left alone at home. Although there were several nannies at home to watch over me, I craved their attention.

They couldn’t give it to me. They prioritized their position in the court, and they were so busy strengthening their authority inside the pack. Then, I learned that they only needed me to be their successor.

The man who adopted me was the Beta of Alpha Marcus. I was so young back then, but the moment I came face to face with Alpha Marcus, I recognized him. I couldn’t be mistaken! I easily recognized the man who let my mother suffer before she abandoned me, and then she got killed, making me an orphan at the age of eight.

At a very young age, I started to develop an interest in Alpha Marcus, and then I befriended his heir, Jacob Summers. Since then, Jacob and I have always been inseparable. Some claimed that a woman would probably ruin our friendship, but it wasn’t the case.

While Jacob was so inclined in sleeping with a woman, I made sure to stay celibate. I distanced myself from women who had the potential of developing an interest in Jacob.

I forced myself to not look at those beautiful girls in the pack, and leave Jacob to get their attention. Everything was great until I saved a teenager wandering alone in the forest. She was gathering firewood, but she met a group of young rogue werewolves.

If I wasn’t there on time, that girl would be raped, or even beaten to death! At that moment, I decided to be her hero, and I regretted it. Since then, I couldn’t forget about her cute face, especially her doll eyes.

She was so beautiful back then, wearing a cute summer dress in the color yellow. Her long and curly hair was tied up in a fishtail, leaving the skin on her neck exposed.

That day, I went to the woods to relieve my frustration about my life. I have been doing it from time to time, without my parent’s knowledge.  They didn’t even know about the tattoos I got. They didn’t care about me at all.  As long as I wouldn’t make a scandal in the pack, or ruin their good reputation, they wouldn’t give a damn about me.

After saving that beautiful girl, I began to worry that Jacob would have a chance to meet her too, and then the girl would be smitten by Jacob’s handsome look.

I realized that she could be my weakness, especially when I learned that she was my mate. After that day, I holed up inside my room and didn’t go out, even if Jacob wanted me to go with him in meeting girls at a nearby café.

After a week of wondering about that girl, I used my parents’ connection to know everything about her. I discovered she was an omega, poised to become a woman of Alpha Marcus; whether a whore or a servant.

The knowledge that she was an omega made me realize that our fate was doomed from the start. It was better to avoid her at all costs, but when Jacob decided to become a rogue and left the pack, I was left alone in the pack.

I couldn’t even leave the house because my adoptive parents began to impose strict rules at home, in case I would follow Jacob’s path. To prove that I wasn’t an asshole, I showed some interest in my father’s work, and my adoptive mother was so glad about it.

Years later, Alpha Marcus decided to revive the omega pregnancy program when he couldn’t find a suitable heir. Since I wanted to get close to Alpha Marcus, I volunteered to work with the doctors who were in charge of the program.

Then, I met her again. This time, she was no longer a little girl, but a young and beautiful woman, who just became one of the women that belonged to the Alpha.

I felt pity for the woman who had no choice about the matter. There were times when I wanted to take her away from the pack, away from her sad fate, but I couldn’t do that at the moment. I needed to avenge the wrongful death of my mother, and until it would be realized, I wouldn’t dare to open my heart to her.

“Hey, Dale! What’s wrong with you? Dale!”

I was startled when Jacob screamed so close to my ear. I was engrossed in my thoughts that I didn’t realize he was already awake, and out of his bedroom.

“No hangover? I brought you a cup,” I told him.

“Great! Where’s Amber by the way? Is she alright? I am worried that she might be sick after falling into the swimming pool,” Jacob said worriedly but the moment he realized the words coming out of his mouth, he immediately stop.

“She’s not the woman you used to love very much, Jacob. Although they have the same name, that’s the only similarity they have,” I explained, and Jacob immediately clenched his jaw.
