Chapter 774 One Night Stand
Reason told Phoebe she should refuse. After all, a man and a woman alone, drunk, could easily lead to something happening, and she couldn't bear the consequences.
"Mr. Reynolds, Ethan needs me at night."
Theodore sneered lightly, "If you don't want to accompany me, just say so. Don't make excuses, Mia. Can you be honest with me?"
Phoebe's heart skipped a beat.
Since Phoebe became an adult, even Evelyn stopped calling her by her nickname. Hearing it from Theodore now felt a bit ambiguous.
Phoebe scratched her ear, "I'll have a drink with you, but no more than that."
Theodore picked up another empty glass, poured a small amount of wine, and pushed
it towards Phoebe, "I know you get drunk easily. I won't push you."
Phoebe picked up the glass. Under the warm yellow light, the amber liquid looked tempting. She took a sip and frowned.
"Even after spending several years in Caneda, I still can't get used to this kind of wine." Phoebe put the glass on the table, resting her head on her hand, lazily looking at Theodore.
Theodore curled his lips, "Did you have a good time in Caneda?"
Phoebe was taken aback.
Theodore asking her so gently was unexpected. She lowered her eyes, "Yeah, I was busy with my career. It was pretty good."
"I didn't have a good time at all," Theodore suddenly said.
Phoebe stared at Theodore in a daze. He wasn't joking; his eyes were full of loneliness. Theodore swirled his glass, "After the divorce, I thought I could quickly forget you and start over. But later, I realized I was deceiving myself. Mia, I never forgot you for a moment."
Phoebe sat there motionless, processing every word Theodore had just said, chewing on them and understanding them in her mind.
Phoebe felt a bit dazed, her breathing becoming shallow.
Was Theodore confessing to her?
"Theodore, you..."
"Don't say anything, just listen to me," Theodore interrupted her. He lowered his eyes and drank the wine in one gulp.
Theodore poured himself three more glasses in a row, as if trying to gather his courage through the alcohol.noveldrama
When Theodore looked at Phoebe again, it seemed he had made some decision.
"Only after you left did I admit to myself that I had fallen in love with you long before that night, maybe even from the first time we met."
Phoebe gripped the glass, "The first time?"
"Yeah, do you remember me? In the small town, you carried me down from the mountain and told me your name was Mia. I waited for you there for a long time, but you never came back." Theodore stared straight at her.
Phoebe's heart trembled, "When did you remember?"
No wonder he suddenly called her Mia. Theodore had remembered the past, but... it was too late.
"I always remembered the girl saving me. I realized you were the girl three years ago. Our fate was set long ago, earlier than we thought, right?"
Phoebe took a sip of wine, feeling the bitterness spread from her mouth to her stomach, "So what? We've already missed our chance."
"Mia, let's start over. This time, I won't let you down."
Phoebe shook her head, "It's too late, Mr. Reynolds."
From the moment Phoebe decided to give birth to the kids, she cut off any possibility between them. Theodore, with his pride, would never allow the woman he loved to have someone else's children.
If Phoebe had wanted to use alcohol to tell Theodore about Hubert, Boris, and Noomi's parentage, she was now glad she hadn't.
The deeper the love, the deeper the hate.
If Theodore knew about Phoebe's betrayal, he would want to destroy her.
Phoebe drank the rest of her wine, the glass making a crisp sound as it touched the table. She stood up, "Mr. Reynolds, thank you for your hospitality."
With that, Phoebe picked up the baby bottle and walked towards the kitchen.
After a few steps, Theodore hugged her from behind, pressing her against the wall. His
lips touched the back of her neck, the strong smell of alcohol overwhelming.
Phoebe felt their bodies tightly pressed together. She could even feel Theodore's strong heartbeat.
Phoebe struggled.
"Theodore, let go of me!"
"It doesn't matter if you don't love me, Mia. We can be together. You have needs, and
so do I. We can satisfy each other, just like before. Do you remember how compatible
we were?" Theodore's lips moved to her ear, whispering seductively.
Phoebe's legs went weak, "Mr. Reynolds, I won't be your lover."
"I can be your lover," Theodore passionately bit her earlobe, waves of heat making Phoebe almost give up resisting.
But she couldn't.
Phoebe couldn't get entangled with Theodore. As long as she stayed by his side, Hubert, Boris, and Noomi's parentage would be a ticking time bomb, ready to blow them apart.
Sometimes, human nature was the most untestable. Even if someone loved her deeply now, once she touched his bottom line, he would make her suffer endlessly.
"Mr. Reynolds, you really can bend and stretch," Phoebe mocked.
Theodore pressed tightly against her. Maybe because of the alcohol, his body temperature was high, rubbing against her, making her feel desire. Theodore lowered his head, biting her neck, his breath becoming heavy. "Mia, just treat it as a one-night stand. Stay with me tonight, okay? We both have needs, don't we?" Theodore kissed her neck, his voice low and seductive. Phoebe was momentarily lost. Her phone suddenly vibrated in her pocket, snapping her back to reality. She grabbed Theodore's hand, which had slipped into her robe. "Mr. Reynolds, I'm sorry, I can't do this." Phoebe forcefully pulled Theodore's hand out, stepped away from his embrace, tightened her robe, picked up the fallen baby bottle, and walked into the kitchen.
Theodore took a deep breath, leaning against the cold wall. He listened to the sound of water running in the kitchen and the howling wind outside, feeling his heart sink into an abyss.
Phoebe stood at the sink, pretending to calmly wash the baby bottle, but her heart was in chaos.
If her phone hadn't vibrated, Phoebe might have let herself do something irreversible. She braced herself against the sink, cursing herself inwardly.
Almost thirty years old, and she was still swayed by Theodore's charm!
After washing the bottle, she boiled some water to sterilize it, then took out her phone
to check the message. It was a photo from Evelyn of Hubert, Boris, and Noomi sleeping.
[The kids were very good. They fell asleep after playing. How's Ethan? Did he look for Ruby?]
Phoebe looked at the photo of Hubert, Boris, and Noomi's sleeping faces, unable to resist touching the screen. After a moment, she replied to Evelyn, reassuring her.
Phoebe walked out of the kitchen, but Theodore was nowhere to be seen. She stood under the light for a long time, thinking that with Theodore's pride, being rejected would make him avoid her for days.
