ONLINE RELATIONSHIP IS BORING

Rita’s POV

“Mr Finn is far better than his mother” Evelyn suddenly uttered while we were having our lunch at the restaurant.

“You are right. I totally agree with you. Finn sees us as his friends and his peer group” I nodded my head in affirmation.

“We are his peer group afterall” Adam sneered and his girlfriend shot him a warning stare.

“Uhm guys, I already saw this coming! Finn wants me to be his girlfriend” I announced and Evelyn clapped happily;

“The CEO wants to date you! Oh my God, this is giving billionaire romance novels vibe” She beamed and jubilated.

“No, no Evelyn, I am not happy about it, I’m really confused at the moment” I told her.

“What’s there to be confused about? We have already discussed this, I told you to pretend, play along, just date him; fake dating!” She emphasized.

“Oh well, fake friendship, fake this, fake that. Just so you know, Finn already figured out that I have been pretending to get along with him” I told him.

“He figured out?” Adam exclaimed, surprised..

“Well, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not like you did it for his money but to get on his good side” Evelyn said.

“He knows I’m not comfortable around him yet he likes me so much” I complained almost whining.

“Hmmmn Rita, I think you should date Finn for real. I mean.. Finn has everything you want in a guy. He’s rich, you are so lucky” Evelyn advised and her boyfriend shouldered hit her.

“I can’t be with Finn. I already have a boyfriend remember?” I snapped my fingers at her face.

“Oh poor Zane” she said with an ugly expression.

“There’s nothing to feel pity about Evelyn. Rita is happy she’s with Zane and she’s never gonna cheat on him with Finn! Right Rita?” Adam retorted.

“Yeah, right. I love Zane so much. I don’t wanna cheat on him” I kinda frown.

“Oh great. I guess I’m just a bad adviser ” Evelyn hissed and turned to Adam.

“What will you do if I told you that my billionaire CEO wants to date me?” She asked him.

“You must not date him under my nose” Adam said.

“Of course, I won’t date him under your nose. He’s wealthy, I can make some money out of him for us” Evelyn said, Adam peered his eyes like what she just spewed out made sense to him.

“Rita, you are the luckiest girl ever” She said.

“Look Evelyn, Finn is a very good man. I do not wanna play with his heart not even break his heart and rob him too. Ah! No please!” I shook my head, disagreeing to the suggestion.

“Did you tell your boyfriend about Finn, what did he say?” Evelyn asked.

“Funny how he gave the same opinion you gave but Zane was only kidding around. He is not even aware that it has gotten to this level, I mean I am yet to tell him that Finn wants to date me, he will flare up if he finds out. Zane is such a jealous freak!” I blushed while I spoke.

“Do you guys chat with him too?” I asked when they didn’t say anything but watch the way I spoke.

“Uh, once in a while. Infact, it’s been a while” Adam responded.

“The last time, I spoke to your so called boyfriend was when I introduced myself to him” Evelyn answered then she added;” In as much as I love making friends, chatting online is boring! I prefer talking to people physically. You know, scrutinizing their faces and noting down their expression, that way I can tell how they really feel. The face and body gestures speaks louder than words” She concluded, fidgeting her hands.

“Action they say” Adam corrected.

“Whatever, chatting online is really boring” Evelyn repeated..

“Nope! It has been since Adam and I started dating, I barely chat with anyone else. You do the same, since you started dating Zane online, you barely send us a DM, it’s always you and him” Evelyn said.

“Evelyn, can I ask you a question?” Adam suddenly said.

“Yes baby” She put her hand over his neck.

“So you are aware of how boring chatting is with the few good reasons you have just given. Then why did you let Rita date Zane?” I was surprised Adam was on my side.

“I didn’t do anything wrong. Rita fell in love with Zane, I didn’t force her”

“The last time I checked, you told Mrs Janet Johnson to find Rita a lover”

“Rita was single and lonely. I wanted her to fall in love and to feel loved too” She defended herself with even more better reasons.

“But you just said chatting online is boring and …”

“Adam!” I cut in sharply. I have heard enough. Besides, why should he be arguing with his girlfriend because of me.

“Verbal communication is boring but for lovers, it’s not because love is in the heart not through the words” Evelyn said.

“Yeah. Zane and I love eachother. Our words speaks louder than the facial expression” I told her.

“Okay! Accepted. But then, I wonder how you guys have a romantic moment. The lovey dovey stuff, no kissing and no .. oops!” She paused, goggled and opened her mouth in awe. “Poor Zane, what a highly celibat-ed relationship except if on the other side, there is a side chick to satisfy his cravings”

“Evelyn! Enough!” Adam cautioned.

I wondered if Adam shut her up because she was making me uncomfortable or maybe because she was indirectly revealing to me that they have had s*x.

I coughed and almost choked. Adam gave me a glass of water and shot his girlfriend a hard glare.

I couldn’t hide it, Evelyn words really hit me. Everything she said was absolutely right but she didn’t have to be rude and unconcerned about how I felt.

Yes, Zane and I do have great conversation yet it was missing something, all that I have yearned for.

What about him? Does he feel the same? and therefore, he probably has another girlfriend over there?
