His Destructive, Toxic Love

Chapter 236

"Why's Casper here?" she blurted out.

Aaron furrowed his brow and shook his head. "Not sure. He must be in Oak Falls for business. I heard he's eyeing a hospital here, and my uncle's a major shareholder. He's probably using this chance to talk to him." Whatever the reason, Casper had seen her. He'd definitely start questioning her identity.

A wave of unease gripped her heart.

Aaron gently placed his hands on her shoulders, his voice calm and reassuring. "Don't worry, Eliza. He saw you die. Even if he thinks you look familiar now, he'll just assume his eyes are playing tricks on him. He'd never guess you're still alive." Eliza's eyes fluttered. Would he really?

"Alright, stop stressing. Stay here and rest for a bit. Don't go out."

Eliza nodded lightly. "Aaron, could you let your uncle know?"

"Of course." He smiled gently.

Eliza stayed anxiously in the room for a while.

Suddenly, her phone rang.

Startled, she clutched her rapidly beating heart and glanced at the screen. It was Chelsea.

"Hey, Chelsea."

"Elle, are you almost done there?"

Eliza checked the time. The clock showed ten. "Almost. How's my baby? Still behaving?"

"The little guy's been great," Chelsea's voice was tender. "He had dinner, played with his toys for a bit, and then went to bed without any fuss. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on him. Nothing will happen." "That's good to hear. Thanks so much."

"If it gets too late, have Aaron drive you home, okay?"

Eliza hummed in agreement. "Don't worry about me."

After hanging up, Eliza decided to go check the situation. It was getting late. If Casper had left, she needed to find an excuse to leave, too.

She reached for the doorknob and gently pressed it down. Before she could react, a powerful force pushed her back.

She stumbled a few steps, her back hitting the cold wall.

A man's familiar scent filled her nostrils.

"Mr. Casper?" she frowned, trying to stay calm. "What are you doing? How rude!"

"Ms. Valerie, you look a lot like my late wife."

His arms were propped against the wall, trapping her in a small space He leaned in, their noses almost touching, his deep eyes filled with confusion. én.swnovels.net

"Is that so, Mr. Casper? You think I'm your wife who has come back to life?" She chuckled lightly, her lips curving into a sympathetic smile.

"You look like her." His voice was deep and hoarse. "But she didn't have a twin sister."

"What do you mean by that, Mr. Casper?" She pushed him slightly, her eyes meeting his with

Maybe it was just his imagination, a hallucination born from longing. Perhaps this woman only resembled her a bit, and he stubbornly saw them as identical.

Reluctantly, unwillingly, he let go of her.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Valerie." He apologized in a low voice, his gaze still on her face. "Maybe I just miss her too much."
