Chapter 283
"I'll be heading back soon; you should clock out too," Eliza said with a slight smile.
"Okay." Noel continued his work, holding onto a stack of documents.
Eliza glanced out the window, feeling bored. The streetlights were already on, and it looked like it was going to rain. She grabbed an umbrella from her drawer and prepared to head home. Just as she walked out of the office building, the rain began to fall.
Noel hurried to catch up with Eliza. "Ms. Valerie, it's raining. How are you getting home?"
"I'll catch a cab," she replied.
"Please wait here for a minute." Noel dashed into the rain.
In about five or six minutes, a white Honda pulled up, and the window rolled down. "Ms. Valerie, hop in. I'll drive you home."
"It's fine, Noel. I was about to grab a cab."
"Consider it a cab ride from me. Come on," Noel warmly insisted, opening the driver's door to personally invite her. "Ms. Valerie, please, give me a chance to show my gratitude." Eliza smiled, thinking it would be too pretentious to refuse any further. "Well then, thank you."This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Noel was very talkative. He always had plenty of topics to discuss. He could shift from talking about the football league to his summer jobs, which sounded quite inspiring.
"You're quite ambitious, buying a car right after graduation. Did I underestimate you?"
Noel blushed at the compliment. "Ms. Valerie, this car is second-hand. It cost me forty thousand dollars in total, part of which I saved from my part-time jobs. My mom even chipped in ten thousand." "That's quite impressive."
Noel was blooming with happiness.
When they arrived at Welton Estate and stopped, he was surprised. Eliza actually lived in such a luxurious place. "Ms. Valerie, this is your home?"
"No, I'm just staying here." She
opened the passenger door, and raised her umbrella without further explanation. "Noel, thanks for the ride. You should head back now. Be careful on the road."
"I'll be going then, Ms. Valerie."
Eliza waved goodbye to him, turning around and almost bumping into a wall of muscle. She gave a brief glance and continued walking inside with her umbrella. Casper clicked his tongue and quickly followed her. "Changed tastes?"
"What do you mean by changed tastes?" she suddenly stopped, looking displeased at Casper's tall stature. "I'm not interested in arguing with you." "Isn't that new guy of his a change in taste?" He looked down at her with a mocking tone. "Or are you into both young and old men, Ms. Valerie?" She faced Casper's gaze fearlessly and responded candidly. "You are right about that."
Casper was momentarily speechless at Eliza's straightforward answer, losing his composure.
"Are you trying to infuriate me on purpose?" He suddenly threw his umbrella away, ducking under hers bending down to bring his face. closer to hers. "If you infuriate me to death, you'll truly become a widow."
She looked at him with contempt, moved the umbrella away from above his head, and walked straight inside, leaving behind a light remark. "I am already a widow."
Casper picked up his umbrella from the ground and quickly followed her. When had he ever been humiliated like this?
"Aren't you afraid I'll deal with that young man?"
Eliza stopped abruptly, looking through the misty rain at Casper standing in front of her. Her gaze was cold yet slightly shocked. "It seems to me, you want to deal with me."
"You blatantly brought a young man
to your doorstep. Are you trying to disgust me?" Casper's brows were furrowed He forcefully grabbed her arm, as if trying to grasp her heart through the fabric. "Don't forget that you are still legally my wife, Eliza."
