CHAPTER CXI
She had tried to kill herself. Sophia’s throat clogged up at the thought and she sighed out, shutting her eyes back after seeing that she was wearing another hospital scrubs and laying on Chase’s bed once again.
The sound of the door opening slightly made her open her eyes and she froze at the sight of Chase by the door. He wasn’t wearing the clothes he had on again. He was clad in a plain black sweatshirt and sweatpants.
He had a tray in his hands. He walked to the bed maintaining eye contact with her.
When he dropped the tray on the bedside table, Sophia’s eyes darted to it. There was a plate of covered food, drugs, water and then, a black box which made her frown.
The moment she felt Chase’s hand on her arm, she flinched away from him. She’s watched as his expression hardened and his jaw clenched.
Chase placed his cold hands on both of her arms and helped her sit up with her head resting on the headboard while she stilled in his hold. “Is your arm still hurting?”
She stared at him in the eye, scared of what his reaction would be to what she was about to ask. “What- what about the man? Is he okay?”
Chase’s eyes narrowed into slits and he gritted out. “Anyone who tries to take away what’s mine will never end up the same, Sophia,”
What’s his’.
She was his property.
“So-” She swallowed. “So you killed him?”
Chase shook his head and a coy smile appeared on his lips, startling Sophia of his sudden change of mood. “Not yet,”
She swallowed again. “Not yet?”
“Did you really think I would let him live?” He asked. “I would have never let him live for trying to hurt you even if he hid anywhere in the world. I would have found him and brought him to his fucking end,”
When Sophia said nothing, Chase picked up the tray and uncovered the food. He fetched the pastina dish in the spoon and took it to her lips.
“I’m not hungry,”
Chase glared at her and dropped the spoon back in the dish. “I don’t care if you’re hungry or not. You will have this food,”
“I don’t want to,”
Chase pursed his lips into a straight line. “Sophia,”
“I’ll only eat if you let him go,” She croaked out. “You can’t kill him,”
“Why the fuck should I let the bastard live?” He snapped. “He tried to kill you. Don’t you get it?”
“You-,”Sophia opened her mouth to snap back at him but halted when she felt a searing pain on her head. She groaned in pain.
Chase was quick to drop the tray on the bedside and move closer to her. He held her face in his hands and caressed her cheeks. “Are you okay?”
“I- I’m fine,” She tried to move away from him. “My- my head just hurts,”
“Obviously it would,” His eyes softened. “You hit your head hard on the tile. Why the fuck did you do that?”
“I-,” A tear rolled down her cheek. “They- they wanted me to join them. They-,”
“Shhhh,” Chase hugged her. “It’s okay. I won’t let them get to you again, I promise,”
And that was how the atmosphere between them changed. Slowly, Sophia wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tighter. “Thanks,”
Chase reluctantly pulled away and picked up the black box from the tray before handing it to her.
Sophia collected the box, frowning. “What’s that?”
He nudged towards the box with his chin, a smile on his lips. “Open it. It’s a small gift from me to you,”
With shaky hands, Sophia opened the box. She screamed the minute she saw what was inside and threw it off on the floor.
Amused by her reaction, Chase bent down and picked up the finger, then placed it back in the box. He closed the box and dropped it on the bedside table. “You’re scared of a fucking finger?” He raised his brow at her. “You have a finger,”
“But-,”She snapped her eyes from the box and looked at him. “But not that. My fingers are still attached to my body. That one has been amputated from the owner’s body,”
“I don’t amputate people’s body parts unless they do something wrong which calls for that, to me, Gattina,” He smiled at her.

“Then why are you giving it to me?” She blanched.
“Because it’s meant to be with you. That forefinger belongs to the bastard who tried to kill you,” He said.
“But-,” Sophia gulped, shaking her head. “You didn’t need to do that. Why that finger though?”
Chase smiled. “That was the finger that pulled the trigger on you,”
“It’s not like the bullet hit a vital spot, Chase,” She said. “It was just my arm,”
“It doesn’t matter where you were shot. As long as you got hurt, it’s up to me to deal with the one responsible for that,” He caressed her cheeks with his cold knuckles, making her breath hitch in her throat. “I don’t want you to be scared of a finger because you’re likely to be seeing more of it,”
She searched his eyes for an explanation. “What do you mean?”
His lips tugged upwards into a smirk. “You are the new Donna, Gattina. You are the one who will rule my empire beside me,”

Chase stared at Saige in the eye as she did the same while struggling with his soldiers to let her go. Her hair was disheveled and she looked completely out of place.
“You can’t let your fucking soldiers do this to me,” Saige cried out to him once she was free from the ropes she had been tied with. She rushed to him and placed her hands on his arms. “What did I do to deserve such treatment? I’m the Donna for fuck’s sake!”
“You disrespected your position, Saige,” Chase took a step backwards. “You ceased to be the Donna the moment you decided to plan a murder on Sophia,”
Saige froze and her eyes widened. “What- what are you-,”
“Don’t fucking deny it, “He gripped her arm tightly and pulled her close to him. “You better not deny the fucking fact that you actually tried to kill Sophia yesterday,”
“I didn’t,” She lied, shaking her head. “I didn’t, I swear,”
Chase’s jaw clenched and he wrapped his hand around her throat, blocking her windpipe.
“Cha-,” Tears stung her eyes and she clutched his wrist. “You-,”All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
Chase released her throat. Before she could fully stand on her own without staggering, he brought out his gun and shot her on the arm.
She yelped in pain and tried to touch the place where he had shot her but he was quicker. He gripped the place and pressed the heel of his palm on it, making it hurt her more.
“Stop it,” She gritted out in pain. “Dad is going to stop it,”
“Dad?” He raised a brow. “Let’s see which dad you return to, Saige,”
Her face paled and her lips parted.
Chase basked in the look on her face. That was the look he loved to see on people’s faces who wronged him.
He knew ending De Luca was like ending his plans but that was the least of his problem. He had other ways to formulate a plan to get what he wanted. Just because he killed De Luca didn’t mean he would let his father go scot- free. Pietro Romano had his own coming his way.
He wouldn’t let Saige die either. She would never be allowed to die yet, until she saw Sophia’s happiness in that compound. She would be tortured and left to live like that with her shadows till she begged for her own death.
He may not be in love with Sophia, but Saige had to understand the level of his obsession for her.
