Chapter 38.
“Now get out of my house” he shouted and continued to push an helpless, bleeding Marco until he was outside the apartment, he banged the door and went to pack all Marco’s belongings into his bag, when he had finished, he opened the door and threw his bag at him.
“Take your trash and get out of my house and never come back here again you ungrateful fool, even when I die, don’t you ever come near my grave, Iam highly disappointed in you, never have I imagine you would do something like this to me, just leave now you son of a devil” Fred spat at him and banged the door making sure it is securely locked.
Marco was on the ground, the ground was hot due to the sun and the heat burning deep into his skin like some roasted plantain, he felt the heat on his skin, with the pains on his face and body, he was too weak to stand or speak any longer, raising his head he looked up to the sky as If expecting some powers to intervene on his behalf.
But in his case, he was unlucky, in the sense that the more he looked up to the sky, instead of divine intervention, the ultraviolet ray from the sun was eating deep into his skin and eyes, almost impairing his vision.
Since that gruesome incident which almost terminated his life, he had always tried to keep away from trouble, but it seems like the more he tries to stay away from these unforseen circumstances, his head had been forcefully dragged into a disgusting water by some undesirable elements, with Carolyn as the architect of his downfall.
She had succeeded in bringing darkness into his life just because he had refused to sleep with her, which region of his mouth was he going to use in telling the whole world that what Carolyn did was just a mere setup, it was absolutely impossible, most especially when he did not have a single person to vouch for him.
What transpired was really a pitiable story, ur was a story that was bound to spread through far and near such that people even spit on him when next they saw him, even those who trusted and liked him so much because of his looks, good characters and his intelligence began tonee him like a bundle of disappointment.
Marco didn’t know where to go or what to do that moment.
That thought alone felt like he was carrying the burden of the whole world on his shoulder, answer to the thought appeared to be impossible as he was still trying to figure out the most appropriate step to take at that point in his life.
‘should he go back to mother?’ that thought was not palatable, and he soon realized the need to vacate Fred’s place in order to avoid further embarrassment.
He took his bag and shoes and walked away like a refugee, as he was walking down the road, he felt as if the whole world was going to crumble on him, and in his mind the world seems like an empty space in which he had to build his own tent if he was going to survive.
But where was the resources? He didn’t even have money for food and hunger was bitting his stomach just like the sun was beating his head and his face and mouth was still bleeding from the impact of Fred’s fist.
Marco soon walked towards an overhead bridge and saw the need to sojourn there for sometime, at least to save his head from the scoring sun, It was there that he sat down and examined his problem critically, he came to a conclusion that the best step for him was to go back to his home town, back in his home town he had peace of mind without a job, but in Accra Ghana, it had been problems all through coupled with his joblessness.
The only thing he needed was transport fare as he did not have a penny on him. Had it been he had half of the money for that fare, he would have approached the transporters and appealed for mercy after he might have explained his conditions. But the worst was that he did not even have anything, besides, trying to beg for free transportation would certainly appear like trying to build a castle in the air.
He thought about it seriously for some time and decided to try his luck first, if it did not work out, he would then think of what else to do.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
