Chapter 139
Divorce Agreement
Harper calmly clutched the document in her hand, slipping it into her pocket before grabbing her notebook and leaving the bedroom to stow it in her bag by the entrance. Throughout, she maintained a poker face but her gaze was cold.
She quietly waited for Benjamin to wake up, and once he did, they sat across from each other at the dining table for breakfast.
Benjamin glanced at her impassively as he asked, "You're up early. Why not get some more sleep?"
"I have to go to the office later," Harper replied.
"Aren't you tired? You could rest for a few more days." He suggested.
"Don't you have work?" Harper countered instead of responding directly.
Benjamin furrowed his brows slightly. "Curtis will pick me up later. I have a lunch appointment this afternoon."
"Alright." Harper nodded after finishing her milk, then dabbed her lips with a napkin before looking up at Benjamin. "I'll pack your clothes for you, and you can take them with you later."
Benjamin's expression turned cold in an instant as he set down the glass of milk in his hand. He stared at her intently, his voice cold as he questioned, "What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing, just that you're no longer feverish, so do you still need to stay here? This place is small and lacks a lot of things, so I think you'd be more comfortable back at Pineview Villa," Harper explained calmly. "So, you're kicking me out?" he retorted sharply.
"If that's how you choose to interpret it," she replied coolly.
There was no attempt at softening her words. She simply echoed his sentiments.
Benjamin's gaze turned cold as he smirked. "Harper, you're such a playgirl. Are you kicking me out because I didn't satisfy you enough last night?"
Harper furrowed her brows and lowered her gaze, thinking, "Why does he always want to bring those things up?"
She tried to maintain her composure. With her cheeks flushed, Harper replied with a steady tone, "No, you're mistaken."
"That better be the case, or you're going to get it from me," he threatened as he rose from the table.
Harper stood up as well. "Benjamin, you should move back. I've told you before that we need some time apart."
"Fine, I'll move out. But you're coming with me," he declared.
"I don't want to." Harper refused.
"Harper, you said you needed time apart, and I've given you a few days, but I have no intention of continuing this living arrangement where we're separated. So either you move back in with me, or we buy this place and live here," Benjamin insisted, his handsome face was tense which showed his displeasure.
Harper took a deep breath, feeling somewhat defeated. "Benjamin, don't you feel uneasy living together like this?"
"So, these past two days felt like that to you? Was everything you did all just a pretense?" he demanded harshly, but Harper remained silent.
He pressed further. "Speak! Is that what you really feel?"
Harper pressed her lips, her heart wavering with hesitation, but when she looked up, her expression was calm and indifferent. "Yes, I feel uneasy. Can you move out, please?"Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Harper, I dare you to say that again!" Benjamin challenged.
Harper's eyelashes fluttered slightly as she reached into her pocket and retrieved the crumpled paper she had found in the drawer, tossing it onto the table. Then, she said coldly, "I'll say it as many times as needed. Because I don't believe your reason for staying here has anything to do with wanting to salvage our marriage. Aren't you just toying with me?"
Benjamin glanced down at the item Harper had placed on the table, and a flicker of embarrassment crossed his eyes before he composed himself. "You want me to move out just because of this?" he asked flatly.
"Isn't this enough? Or do you find it inconsequential?" Harper countered.
