I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 161

Apologize

Their eyes met briefly, Benjamin's expression calm and unreadable. Then, he shifted his gaze away, addressing Jack. "What's going on here?"

Jack quickly stepped forward, offering him a seat and pouring coffee with exaggerated hospitality.

"Benjamin, hope we're not disturbing you by calling you over at this hour," he said, all smiles.

Benjamin's response was curt. "No."

Jack nodded, continuing, "Good. We wanted Harper to apologize to you. Since there hasn't been any response from your side, we figure Harper might mess up and upset you."

Benjamin remained silent, merely lifting his gaze to meet Harper's. His action only solidified Harper's parents' belief that she was at fault.

Jennifer hurried over to nudge Harper, urging, "Harper, why don't you apologize to Benjamin? You're married, and a little apology will smooth things over."

Harper's expression remained impassive as she looked at Jack and Jennifer, a coldness settling in her heart.

These were the parents who brought her into this world.

Harper's tone was icy as she retorted, "What exactly do you think I did wrong?"

"It doesn't matter what you did. It's all on you anyway. Apologize to Benjamin and let him forgive you," Jack ordered sternly.

As Harper looked at Benjamin seated in the center of the sofa, she suddenly felt her pride crumble into dust.

Even though she hadn't done anything wrong, in her parents' eyes, she was always expected to be the one to apologize.

Without flinching, Harper lifted her head to meet Jack's gaze. "I won't apologize. I don't believe I've done anything wrong," she stated calmly.

"Harper!" Jack snapped angrily, "Is this how I raised you? You really don't have an ounce of Kimberly's manners. No wonder Benjamin wants to divorce you. Hurry up and apologize to Benjamin!" "That's enough!" Benjamin's deep voice cut through the tension. He looked at Jack with a cold expression. "Did you call me here just to make Harper apologize to me?"

Jack stumbled over his words, sensing the weight of Benjamin's disapproval. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

He said cautiously, "Benjamin, I was just worried that Harper might have upset you, especially with all the rumors about your divorce. I thought maybe she had done something to make you unhappy, so I..." "You said it yourself, those are just rumors. So you believe the rumors instead of trusting Harper and me? Aren't you Harper's parents? Shouldn't you be supporting your daughter instead of placing all the blame on her? I'm even starting to doubt if Harper is even a true member of your family." Benjamin's tone was laced with disdain and disbelief.

Benjamin's eyes bore a profound glint of mockery and interrogation, his face exuding a distant yet unmistakable aura of coldness.

His words were a clear defense of Harper, leaving her parents at a loss for words, uncertain of the dynamics between the couple. They both fell silent, showing no signs of wanting to apologize to Harper.

Equally surprised was Harper herself. She hadn't expected Benjamin to speak up for her, especially after their argument last night.

Harper lightly pursed her lips, her eyes meeting his with gratitude.

Benjamin's gaze held hers, his expression resolute. "Harper is my wife. She doesn't need to bow to anyone's whims. Regardless of our relationship, I won't allow anyone to mistreat her."

Jennifer exchanged a quick glance with Jack before jumping in. "You're right. Having you as Harper's husband is truly her luck."

Jennifer then turned to Harper and said, "Sweetie, your father and I misunderstood you. Don't take it to heart. We were just worried about you."
