I Want A Lifetime With You Chapter 456

Su Huaibei?

“Why are you asking about him? I was only a kid when my uncle ran away from home. He hasn’t returned since,” replied Su Shaoqing. He found it weird that Fu Chengyan was asking him such a question.

Fu Chengyan frowned and asked, “It’s been so long. Do you guys really have zero news on him?”

“What news could we possibly have? My grandpa has made it clear. If my uncle doesn’t want to come back, he can die in a foreign land. My grandpa’s words made it so that no one in the family ever went to search for my uncle, who doesn’t enjoy staying here, anyway. He has zero attachment and assets in Jiang City.”

“Huh?” blurted Fu Chengyan. I should’ve known that I can’t get much from Su Shaoqing. After all, he was still a kid at the time, so it makes sense that he doesn’t have much recollection of Su Huaibei. He probably never even met the guy before. In fact, it sounds like he is just as clueless as I am.

“My uncle left Jiang City and went to the capital to further his career when I was just a kid. I was too young to know how things went when he was there, though. All I know is that the Su family suddenly claims that they no longer recognize him as a part of the family. That was when I realize that my family had completely cut my uncle off. When I grow up, I learned that my uncle used to be a rather influential figure in Capital, but I don’t know why he suddenly left. What’s up? Why are you suddenly interested in my uncle’s matters?” asked Su Shaoqing. This is so strange.

Fu Chengyan’s beautiful eyes glowed when he heard all that from Su Shaoqing.

Wait, so Su Huaibei was there in the capital? The timing and everything match up!

“Why are you keeping quiet? Don’t tell me you bumped into my uncle.”

“No,” replied Fu Chengyan while frowning a little, “But I think there are some things you should know about.”

“Uh-huh.”

“Your uncle may have been in a relationship with Shu Qing.”

“Shu Qing? You’re not talking about that celebrity, are you?” asked Su Shaoqing as he narrowed his eyes, “Oh, f*ck! Seriously, which Shu Qing? Is that the woman who recently said she’d come to Jiang City? The one Zhou Zheng was talking about? Please don’t tell me my uncle is already in the city.”

“I don’t know about that. That’s why I called, to ask you if the Su family knows anything about him.”

“Awh, so you’re calling to get info out of me?” teased Su Shaoqing as his lips curled up, “Still, why are you so curious about my uncle’s relationship with Shu Qing? It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with you.” Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

“Hmm, I’m just gonna hang up since you have nothing else to share,” said Fu Chengyan. He was too lazy to continue chatting away with Su Shaoqing, so the former hung up immediately after. Su Shaoqing was left staring at his phone. He was that close to dying of anger and high blood pressure. “Chengyan is getting more and more annoying…”

Shi Nuan woke up to a delicious scent wafting into her room. She opened her eyes to see that Fu Chengyan had already gotten up and prepared breakfast. He had even brought it to the bed for her.

“You’re up,” commented Fu Chengyan as he reached out to carry Shi Nuan out of the bed like she was a princess. Shi Nuan instinctively locked herself in his arms and asked, “What did you make?”

“Porridge with shredded chicken. I got the recipe from home, so it’s a little different from what I usually make,” answered Fu Chengyan as he carried Shi Nuan into the washroom. He then asked, “Did you

sleep well?”

“Yeah,” replied Shi Nuan as she laid in Fu Chengyan’s arms. She felt so relaxed that she didn’t even want to move a muscle. All she did was lean in Fu Chengyan’s arms. “Oh, so you didn’t cook it?”

“I don’t have that much free time. The butler from home had the dish delivered over. He said that the chef woke up early to prepare it, so it’s getting cold,” said Fu Chengyan as he put some toothpaste on the toothbrush then instructed, “Brush your teeth.”

Shi Nuan leaned in Fu Chengyan’s arms. She had her back to him as she brushed her teeth. She later recalled something and paused for a second before saying, “Yan, let’s go home today.”

“Huh? Why? What’s wrong?” asked Fu Chengyan while turning to her.

“It’s too tiring for you to take care of me all on your own. You still have to go to work in the morning,” commented Shi Nuan. She was not a kid anymore; it wasn’t right to live her entire life letting others worry about her. She added, “You’ve also gotten thinner lately.”

Shi Nuan pinched Fu Chengyan’s face a little before murmuring, “This is all my fault.”

“You little idiot,” scolded Fu Chengyan exasperatedly before pinching Shi Nuan’s nose, “Come on, hurry up and wash your face. We have to go to the office after breakfast.”

“Really? You’re taking me to the office?”

“Isn’t that what you asked for?” said Fu Chengyan while handing a warm towel to Shi Nuan, “How’s your temperature?”

“Just right,” replied Shi Nuan, who cleaned her face afterward. Fu Chengyan later carried her out of the washroom. Shi Nuan swung her legs a little as Fu Chengyan carried her. She couldn’t help tilting her head and teasing Fu Chengyan, “Yan, you look like a father who is taking care of a naughty daughter.”

“Like it’s possible for me to have a daughter your age!” Fu Chengyan chuckled before he arched a brow at Shi Nuan and pinched her waist a little. “You are so mischievous.”

“What’s wrong with having a daughter like me? I’m obedient, knowledgeable, and you, Daddy Yan, like me.”

“You silly, mischievous goose,” complained Fu Chengyan before he spanked her bum and warned, “Don’t call me that.”

“Alright, alright,” promised Shi Nuan. She kissed his cheek and added, “I promise I won’t disturb you when you work.”

The couple had their breakfast and headed to the office immediately after. Fu Chengyan had a meeting to attend to, so he left Shi Nuan alone in his private office to read some documents. Shi Nuan obtained the Aureate Jade project from Yuan Jia earlier, so she needed to settle down and familiarize herself with it.

Shi Nuan had never been a part of the Aureate Jade project before, so she was very much out of it. After reading the documents for about two hours, she became exhausted, so she took a break to read the news on her phone. To her surprise, the first thing she saw was the article from the day before.

Articles about Shu Qing’s private life and the rumor that she had illegitimate offspring were four of the top five hottest topics.

The featured photos were mostly taken by the paparazzi, who had been on-site the day before. The way Shu Qing lost control and acted crazy, and the way she was disheveled after that… A series of photos featuring Shu Qing was being posted on the internet. However, there wasn’t a single photo showing her with her illegitimate child.

Shi Nuan couldn’t help recalling how Shen Shixiu had warned the crowd before he left the place. It seemed that the paparazzi didn’t dare to offend the Shen family, so they had peculiarly shared the news. They didn’t just do it for the clicks and the likes, though. They also did it to make White Nights a trending topic once more.

Shi Nuan scrolled down, looking at the search engine that had gone wild with that news. Shu Qing was not a huge celebrity with tons of fans, but after something like that happened, the public reacted even wilder than her fans. The place was overcrowded in less than two hours.

Shi Nuan couldn’t help being shocked. Who would’ve thought that the news about celebrities could spread that wildly?

“What are you looking at?”

Shi Nuan was lost in the articles when she heard a crisp voice sounding. She shifted her gaze up and grew a little curious when she saw the man standing there. “Mr. Su?”

Shi Nuan didn’t even know when Su Shaoqing had arrived. She asked, “Are you looking for Yan?”

Su Shaoqing nodded, then complained, “Nuan, haven’t you already gotten used to calling me Shaoqing? Why is it suddenly Mr. Su now?” The man seemed genuinely upset about it.

Shi Nuan couldn’t help but giggle aloud. “Alright, alright, Shaoqing.” It was just a mishap. I momentarily forgot. ”Still, why are you looking for Yan? He’s in the middle of a meeting,” informed Shi Nuan before she tried to get up. “What would you like to drink?”

“No, no, no! Nuan, don’t get up. Chengyan will kill me if he finds out that I let a pregnant lady like you serve me tea,” said Su Shaoqing in an exaggerated tone and expression filled with fear. That made Shi Nuan roll her eyes at him.

“Honestly, though, you should just sit and rest. I know Chengyan’s place well enough to do it myself,” insisted Su Shaoqing before he poured himself a glass of water. After that, he poured another glass of warm water for Shi Nuan and advised, “Pregnant women should not drink cold water.”

“Okay,” replied Shi Nuan while nodding. She asked again, “By the way, you haven’t told me why you’re looking for Yan.”

Men like Su Shaoqing generally didn’t stop by unless something was truly urgent.

To her surprise, Su Shaoqing shifted his gaze to her and replied nonchalantly, “It’s nothing, really. I’m just bored, so I dropped by to have a chat with him. They say that a relationship requires constant interaction to maintain, and I’m worried that he will forget all about me if I don’t come to visit him. That would make me so sad and pitiful.”

“You’re such a….” began Shi Nuan, who couldn’t quite figure out the right word to describe Su Shaoqing. She couldn’t do anything about his obvious lie, either.

Su Shaoqing, on the other hand, grinned mischievously at Shi Nuan and asked, “So, what were you looking at, Nuan?”

“Oh, it’s nothing. Just some news.”

“News? What news got you so engrossed?” asked Su Shaoqing as he grabbed Shi Nuan’s phone. When he saw the title on the screen and the content of the article, his eyes turned dim.

It’s an article about Shu Qing! Didn’t Fu Chengyan ask about that woman last night and mention that she might have been in a relationship with Su Huaibei? ”When did you start getting into celebrity gossips, Nuan?”

“Haha, I was bored, so I took a look at it. Besides, isn’t Xinhuang operating in that industry? It’d be easier for me to understand how things work if I learn more about the celebrities.”

“Really? And here I thought that you’re into celebrity news, Nuan,” teased Su Shaoqing. He was not the kind of man that could easily be fooled, but his eyes shone with innocence and mischief when he spoke.

“I’m not into gossips,” insisted Shi Nuan before she awkwardly retrieved her phone from Su Shaoqing and added, “It might take some time before Yan’s conference concludes. You can wait here if you’re not in a hurry.”

“Oh, I’m not in a hurry. In fact, I’m free as f*ck.”

Hence, the two of them ended up sitting together quietly in Fu Chengyan’s office.

Su Shaoqing had always been socially blind, so he didn’t care much for it. Shi Nuan, on the other hand, felt a little awkward, especially when she looked into Su Shaoqing’s smiling yet powerful eyes. Shi Nuan was certain that the man was someone to be reckoned with.

“Shaoqing, you…” started Shi Nuan, who then hesitated.

“Please feel free to say anything on your mind, Nuan.”

Shi Nuan took a deep breath and asked, “I’m sure you’re heard of Shu Qing, right? D-do you think… Does she look like me?”

Shi Nuan knew her question was a little sudden, but she wanted an outsider’s unbiased opinion.

Su Shaoqing, however, was stunned. He blinked a few times before shifting his gaze to Shi Nuan. His dark eyes turned sharp as his mind spun.

He thought about Shi Nuan’s past and the article from that day. He then blurted, “The illegitimate child from the news… That’s not you, is it?”
