CHAPTER 2
Laura’s engagement to Easton was a deal made before she drew her first breath. Back then, her dad was alive, and the Godfreys and Ryans were two of the town’s top four families. It was a match made in high society heaven.
But fate took a cruel turn when Laura’s parents were lost in an accident. Her father, Alistair Godfrey, held on just long enough to make sure his little girl wouldn’t be left vulnerable. On his deathbed, he placed Laura in the care of his close friend, David Sharpe.
Growing up as “Laura Sharpe,” she was kept in the dark about her real identity and the engagement. It wasn’t until Easton showed up, ready to honor their families’ pact, that she learned the truth. She turned him down, clueless about the love he had for her.
In her past life, even after she’d rejected him, Easton was always there for her. But she was too blinded by her feelings for Robert to see it.
She’d even given Robert a kidney, thinking he was her one true love. However, he betrayed her, took up with Olivia, and let her take the fall for everything, including the ruin of her looks, which led her to the sea.
As the water closed in, it was Easton’s face she saw, racing to save her. That was when it hit her-Easton was the only one who’d ever truly cared.
This time around, she wanted to say yes to his proposal.
Easton’s face was as still as a statue, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips. “Laura, you were pretty firm on this before. You said it was Robert or bust, and you’d rather die than marry me. Even blind, I’m not a plaything.”
She’d turned him down once, and now she was hesitating. With Easton’s pride and status, he thought she was just messing with him. If it weren’t for her, anyone else who’d been so wishy-washy would be long gone.
As the memories of her past life washed over her, tears rolled down Laura’s cheeks, splashing onto Easton’s hand, The air thickened with her sorrow, and even Easton’s cold heart couldn’t help but feel the pang of her pain.
Easton felt a tug on his sleeve, followed by Laura’s m**ed voice. “Easton, I’m sorry.” She’d m mistaking a jerk for a good man, but she was done with that
a mess of things,
Her words were like a sunbeam piercing the clouds, brightening the gloom. His cool fingers brushed her face, catching her tears. He didn’t know why she acted like two different people in such a short time, but he could sense her sadness.”Did someone hurt you?” Easton’s voice was tight.
Laura shook her head. “I can handle it.”
“Cedric,” Easton called, his tone icy.
Cedric, the tall man behind the wheelchair, stepped forward. “Yes, sir?”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Take care of the Sharpe and Brown families.
Easton knew Laura’s world revolved around those two families, and they were the ones who’d hurt her. That was his style-ruthless and decisive. People feared him, and for good reason.

Laura pressed a finger to his lips, a hint of sweetness lingering. Easton hated being touched, but with Laura, it was
different.
“Don’t,” she whispered.
“You don’t want me to?” Easton asked, his brow furrowing.
“No.” Laura said, her voice firm.
Easton’s brow furrowed, a chill surrounding him. Cedric’s heart s**ed; this was a sign of Easton’s anger brewing.
However, Laura added, “I don’t want them to dirty your hands. I’ll handle my own revenge.”
Easton felt relieved that she was set for revenge. Those people had tormented her for six long years. He wouldn’t let them off easily. I’m here if you need me,” he replied. Her hand covered his. He didn’t like touching, but he didn’t want to let go of her.
“Easton, Laura said, her voice soft.
“Yeah?”
“When I turn eighteen, will you marry me?”
“I’m blind and in a wheelchair. You sure about this?”
“I am.”
He heard the truth in her words. After a moment, he said, “The Laura I want to marry is from the Godfrey family.”
Laura wiped away her tears. “After my coming-of-age, I’ll cut the Sharpe family out, reclaim my Godfrey name, and settle scores with that s**bag.”
The night breeze whispered through the villa as Laura left. Cedric stood behind Easton, his thoughts clear.
“Sir, Ms. Sharpe seems different. I think she might have an agenda. Should I watch her?”
“No need, Cedric,” Easton said, a smile playing on his lips. “Get Daniel Adams to see me about my eyes.”
“Is it because of Ms. Sharpe?”
“I want to see her face. And remember,” Easton rolled away, his voice echoing down the hall, ‘she’s a Godfrey.”
