Chapter 271 Dangerous Pleasure!

Ronald paused, then realised that he had indeed never spoken up for Maggie.

He swiftly composed himself and explained, “Actually, Sierra and Maggie have had a strong bond since their childhood. However, this year, a misunderstanding has arisen between them. Once we resolve this issue, everything should be back to normal. Rest assured, Mr. Harris, I will ensure Sierra receives the appropriate guidance!”

After he spoke, Ronald turned to look at Sierra. She was no fool; despite her reluctance, she lowered her head and said, “I spoke without thinking just now. Please forgive me, Mr. Harris.”

As Nathael watched this touching scene, his mood was still bad.

He thought about how Maggie deserved to enjoy a life of luxury and protection from her family, yet due to their schemes and exploitation, she had to face many hardships and sufferings, the depth of which only she could truly know,

Nathael spoke solemnly, “For Maggie’s sake, I will not pursue today’s matter further.”

Ronald and Sierra both sighed in relief. Ronald quickly responded, “Rest assured, Mr. Harris, I will have Sierra personally apologise to Maggie.”

Nathael spoke indifferently, “I understand that Ms. Cameron must have been frightened today. So, Ethan, give her a gift as compensation.”

Sierra was stunned for a few seconds, even forgetting the pain on her face.

A gift

Compensation?

Is he for real?

Ronald’s expression did not change; he was not surprised, assuming this was just Nathael’s way of giving a harsh lesson followed by a sweetener.

A few seconds later, Ethan approached Sierra with a tray in his hands.

On the tray, there was a cup of steaming hot water, so freshly boiled that mist clung to the sides of the cup, and steam rose continuously.

Upon seeing Ethan, Sierra instinctively stepped back two steps, and seeing the boiling water in fron him made her even more uneasy.

Dad

Ronald frowned, “What does this mean, Mr. Harris?”

Nathael tugged at his thin lips, his thin eyes deep, and said sternly, “Ms. Cameron had better watch her mouth. If I hear another insulting word about Maggie from you, don’t blame me for not being merciful!

Sierra trembled, her breath unsteady and her eyes brimming with tears. She clenched her mouth shuy, dot daring to say a word, fearing that Ethan might actually pour the water into her mouth,

Ronald was very upset, feeling that Nathael was utterly merciless.

“Let’s go!” he snapped at Sierra and turned to leave, feeling humiliated like never before in his life.

After suffering some injuries, Maggie stayed home for a few days, keeping herself busy practicing piano and making a brooch for Nathael.

Nathael had called her a few times, but she did not answer, and he eventually stopped calling.

Maggie did not want to see him, not because of anything else, but purely out of embarrassment. She had lived two lifetimes, and she had rarely taken the initiative. When she finally did, she got turned away!

With recent events weighing on her and her mind in disarray, she decided to seclude herself at home.

There were still many things Mia needed to attend to at her school, so after staying with her and Joyce for two days, she had to return. Joyce had about half a month before the film crew started shooting. Apart from a scheduled magazine shoot, there was not much else, so she decided to stay and keep Maggie company at home.

Maggie occupied her time with piano practice and design work while Joyce read scripts, tended to her flowers, and occasionally practiced dancing to maintain her figure.

Maggie’s mind settled into a rare calm for once until the eve of the competition, when she finally completed the design for the brooch she intended to give to Nathael.

“What do you think?” Maggie handed the item to Joyce, her eyes filled with anticipation.

Joyce took it and examined it carefully.

It was a powerful design: a symmetrical, vintage octagon, inset with diamonds and centered with a cold, clear sea–blue gemstone, flanked on each side by a yellow gemstone, adding warmth to the otherwise cool.

Lones.

Below the octagonal frame hung two tassels, adding a dynamic touch to the design.

“It’s beautiful. What a magical design. It’s both orderly and lively, both clean and cold, yet filled with tenderness and warmth. Does it have a name?” Joyce asked curiously.

Maggie smiled and said, “Turn it over and take a look.”

Joyce hesitated for a few seconds, flipped the brooch in her palm, and was astonished. “Tuberose? How did you do that? It’s incredible!”

Joyce flipped the brooch over and looked at it many times. The front, studded with gems, showed no traces, but once flipped, it revealed a completely different design–a silver–white tuberose made of tiny diamonds.

“It was difficult. It took me a long time.” Maggie spoke softly..

The symbolism of tuberose was dangerous pleasure.

Maggie had once considered using bellflower, which signified enduring love, but it also carried a sadder. interpretation of desperate love.

Maggie thought the first meaning might no longer be suitable, as she did not know how long she would live and hence did not want to talk about eternity.

On the other hand, the latter was too sad and inauspicious; she hoped for a better ending for them.

Instead, the tuberose seemed just right for now.

Every second with him felt like stolen happiness, cach moment shrouded in the shadow of death yet so irresistibly intoxicating.

It was the most dangerous pleasure, also the most irresistible love.

Joyce was somewhat dazed. Maggie’s designs were always unique, but this brooch gave her a different feeling.

The octagon on the front resembled a throne, embodying endless tenderness and hope, cold and noble, while the tuberose on the back was like a wild gambler on a deathly spree, holding onto a romantically steadfast belief even as it withered quickly.

“I figured the symmetrical design on the front could be used as a brooch or worn on a bow tie, while the tuberose on the back offers a different style. I’m such a genius!” Maggie could not help praising herself.

“Have you thought of a name?” asked Joyce.

Maggie replied, “I couldn’t be bothered to think anymore, just call it ‘Dangerous Pleasure.”

“Nathael will love it, Joyce said, her gaze tender.

Maggie also smiled, her beautiful eyes sparkling brilliantly.

Yes, he would definitely love it!

He always cherished all the gifts she gave him, especially since she had put so much thought and effort into this one. If he did not like it, Maggie figured she would cry in front of him. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

“By the way, Joyce, I’ve designed a few sets of jewelry for you, take them with you when you go back.”

While talking, Maggie pulled out several boxes from a drawer.

Joyce, who was involved in the entertainment industry, had more occasions to use these items than she did, and since she was not an A–lister and was unwilling to comply with the unspoken rules, she had limited resources.

Being too plain could make her the subject of ridicule, and it was impossible to borrow the latest luxury items, so whenever Maggie had time, she would design some custom jewelry for her.

Maggie knew that Joyce did not care about these things, but if she were to be mocked because of this, it

would be her own fault!
