Chapter 1000: Should I Call You Nancy or Claudia
The pulse felt exactly as she had anticipated.
The toxins in Oliver's body were stubborn-unlike any poison she had encountered before. If she relied solely on acupuncture to draw it out, she feared his organs would fail before the poison was fully purged.
With this thought in mind, Tina dialed Wraith's number. No one answered.
A moment later, a text came through: "Don't rush me, I'm busy."
Tina's brow furrowed slightly. If even Wraith was stumped by this toxin, could the poison in Oliver's body really be ordinary?
She quickly called Jayden instead. "How's the investigation going?"
Jayden reported honestly, "Young Master, Ethan Chase doesn't seem suspicious. He came back intending to extort some money from the Reed family to pay off gambling debts. But when he found out the child was gravely ill, he fled immediately, likely scared off by the prospect of massive medical bills.
"As for Nancy, everyone who knows her says she's always been the same-timid, spineless, and slightly manipulative, but not excessively so. At home, aside from being close to you, no one really sides with her."
Tina couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right.
If Nancy wasn't Claudia, the timing of her appearance was far too coincidental.
It was almost as if someone had calculated the perfect moment for her to reveal the Jade Armour-like they were lying in wait, ready to reap the benefits of her actions.
As Tina ended the call with Jayden, Jared walked in.
"Tina, what's wrong?"
Her gaze narrowed slightly. "I suspect Nancy is Claudia."
Jared glanced at the small figure on the hospital bed and frowned. "Hmm, I've had the same thought. But the way she's played her hand-I can't figure out what her endgame
is."
This was what intrigued Tina the most. If Claudia had already known Tina possessed the Jade Armour, why not just take it outright? Why go to such lengths, using a child as a pawn and exposing herself in the process?
Jared's eyes grew sharper, like blades glinting with deadly intent. "Then let's see if she has any cards left to play."
Tina gently rested her hand on her belly, stroking it softly. "Yes."
It was time to put an end to this.
The battle between her and Claudia had dragged on long enough.
All that remained was to wait-for Claudia to reveal her final move.
The following days seemed to slow to a crawl for Tina.
She visited the hospital twice every two days, spending the rest of her time at home. Uncle lavished her with delicious food, while she indulged in prenatal care, listened to music, and prepared for the baby's arrival.
A week passed like this. Early one morning, Tina received a call from Jennie.
"Tina, come to the hospital quickly-Oliver's condition is critical. His monitors are flashing red!"
Tina exchanged a glance with Jared. It seemed someone could no longer wait. "I'm on my way," she said into the phone.
When they arrived at the hospital, doctors and nurses were emerging from Oliver's room. One of the doctors stopped to explain, "We managed to stabilize him, but the situation is grim. He could relapse at any time."
Tina nodded and walked into the room.
Inside, Jennie sat at the bedside, crying softly.
When she saw Tina enter, her sobs grew louder. "Tina, I know you're capable. My sister only has this one child-I'm begging you, please save him!"
Tina helped her to her feet and reassured her, "I promised to save Oliver, and I won't go back on my word."
Hearing Tina's response, Jennie straightened up and nodded.
Tina approached the bed and glanced at Oliver's pale face. As if casually, she asked, "Where's Nancy? Why isn't she here?"
Jennie wiped her tears. "She doesn't know about Oliver's condition yet. I only got the call from the hospital while I was out. I rushed over, but by the time I arrived, this happened. The doctors said if we don't find a solution soon..."
Tina told her not to worry, assuring her that with her around, Oliver would be fine. Jared chimed in with some comforting words as well.
After a moment, Jennie hesitated, then looked at Jared. "By the way, I came here with Zackary today. I didn't want to scare him, so I left him in the hospital lobby. He's probably getting anxious by now."
Jared pulled out his phone. "I'll have Nathan bring him over."
Jennie looked conflicted. "Jared, you know how shy Zackary is around strangers."
Tina's gaze darkened slightly. She said to Jared, "Uncle, you should go in person to bring Zackary back. I'll wait here for you."
As soon as Jared left, Tina took out her silver needles.
"Jennie," she said, "I'm going to start the treatment now."
Jennie froze and instinctively stepped back. Feeling awkward, she said, "Tina, I'll just watch from the side. I won't disturb you."
Tina didn't respond. Her hand moved swiftly, and just as the needle was about to pierce Oliver's skin, it suddenly shifted direction-straight toward Jennie.
Jennie barely dodged, her face pale with shock. "Tina, what are you doing?" Tina smirked coldly. "If you don't act now, you won't get another chance." Jennie's expression changed abruptly. "You know who I am?"
Tina's gaze was icy as she sneered, "Should I call you Nancy or Claudia?"
With her identity exposed, Jennie's demeanor shifted entirely. Her face transformed, and her voice became sultry and melodic. "As expected of the person I chose, Tina. You're even smarter than I imagined. I like that."noveldrama
Tina stared at Claudia, who still wore Nancy's face, and felt a wave of boredom. "You've gone to all this trouble just to get the complete Jade Armour, haven't you?"
At the mention of the Jade Armour, "Nancy's" face darkened. "Hand it over, and maybe I'll grant you a quick death."
Tina sneered. "If I give it to you, would you even dare to use it?"
Nancy's eyes lit up with excitement. "So it is in your possession. I had hoped to see it in action myself, but it seems I only need to capture you to make it mine."
As she spoke, she pulled out a pouch of powder. "Tina, your fate is sealed. You'll be my sacrificial offering."
Tina watched her with cold detachment, as if observing a monkey in a zoo. "You think I don't know where you've hidden the poison?"
Nancy smirked, her expression a mix of cunning and mockery. "So what if you know? The poison is already in your body. You're no different from the rest of the Reed family- completely at my mercy."
Tina's eyes grew colder. "You've harmed the Reed family?"
Nancy laughed maliciously. "They're just a bunch of fools. One by one, they claimed
they'd protect you with their lives. How ridiculous."
Tina's hand moved, and dozens of silver needles flew toward Nancy. Her voice was icy. "Where is Jennie?"
Nancy dodged effortlessly, a faint smirk playing on her lips.
"You should be more worried about that man who'd do anything for Jennie. He was willing to risk his life to save his wife. Who knows if he's even still..."
What do you think?
