Chapter 16
Chapter 16 Secretary and Wife
Jake pulled out the two rings that he had ordered to be thrown away earlier when he was nestled comfortably in the business class cabin..
He hesitated for a moment before picking out the ring with a thicker band and sliding it onto his finger. He never tried it on before, so he was surprised to see how snugly the ring fit him. It was as though the ring was measured intricately in the past.
But Jake had been using his work as an excuse to avoid wearing his wedding ring over the past three years.
If this were to happen to a regular married couple, the wife would definitely get into a fight with her husband.
But Gwen never kicked up a fuss over it. She was mild–mannered and understanding. In fact, she was extremely tolerant toward him.
What Jake didn’t expect to see was that Gwen would leave so resolutely after getting a divorce from him. She didn’t even want the wedding ring anymore.
Jake spun the ring quietly, a deep frown marring his face.
Mild–mannered and understanding? Or resolute and determined? Which one was the real Gwen Lawson?
Hours later, the plane landed in Dornwick Jake headed straight to the top floor of Quinn Group, where the CEO’s office was located.
Theodore squinted at the computer’s monitor to ensure that the details were correct. Then, he picked up the project proposal and reconfirmed the details.
After that, he put down the document before saying seriously, “Jake, I’ve checked everything. Your company fits the requirements needed to attend the expo.”
Jake raised an eyebrow in return. He knew it. Savant Group was the one actively stopping Hall Group from attending the medical expo.
Theodore asked, “Did you offend the CEO of Savant Group, Henry Lawson, in any way? Based on the records, it’s shown that he used his authority to object to Hall Group being included as an attendee of the expo.”
Jake’s expression went dark. No one could tell what he was thinking.
“I’ve never seen him before. My secretary was the one who dealt with the expo’s registration this whole time. Previously, the reports showed that everything was proceeding just fine. All we had to do was get the contract signed.” “Well, where did your secretary go? Tell her to carry on.” Theodore played with his pen while looking bored.
Jake lowered his gaze subconsciously in order to conceal the flicker of disappointment. “She quit.”
Realization dawned on Theodore in an instant. “That secretary must’ve been the one screwing things up for you. After she quit, she must’ve stolen your resources and caused you to sustain a huge loss.
“She must’ve signed the non–compete agreement when she first joined Hall Group. Hurry una
sue her right now.” Theodore didn’t hesitate to accuse Gwen of screwing things up before goading Jake into suing her. This made Jake’s expression darken even more.
At that moment, Cedar noticed Jake’s unnatural expression. He could only smile awkwardly before managing to speak up at the right time.
“Mr. Quinn, the secretary in question is Mr. Hall’s wife.”
Theodore slapped a hand over his mouth, his alluring eyes wide in shock. “Holy shit! Jake, where on earth did you find that precious gem? She’s capable of being both your secretary and your wife!” NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

Jake decided to not respond to that comment. Besides, he couldn’t be bothered to argue with Theodore. Theodore had always been the type who ran his mouth a lot without care in the world. Jake was already used to his antics.
Moreover, Theodore was right. Gwen was an outstanding secretary who was as efficient as a well–oiled robot.
Jake’s heart felt heavy at that moment. He finally realized that he had been demanding Gwen to do things the way a perfect secretary would. But he completely forgot that she was also his wife.
Theodore drew to his feet before patting Jake on the shoulder, a teasing smile on his face.
“When did you two get married? Why didn’t I know anything about this? You should introduce your wife to me
sometime.”
Both of them might be good friends, but they rarely met up with each other due to their families‘ competitive expansion of their business empires.
Besides, Jake and Gwen’s marriage was meant to be a secret. It was only natural for them to not hold a grand wedding at all. Jake’s friend, Bradley Moss, as well as a couple of others living in Sinoveria, were the only ones who knew about the marriage.
Those friends of his had always looked down on Gwen, whom they thought was a nobody without a background. They all thought Jake seriously lost out by marrying such a bumpkin, so they never mentioned anything about his marital status. If anything, they all pretended that he was still single.
“They got divorced some time ago.”
Cedar’s mouth reacted before his brain did. It was already too late by the time he realized what he had done.
Upon sensing Jake’s sharp gaze on him, he could only bow his head while mentally chastising himself for running his mouth.
Theodore was able to stop himself from cracking another joke. “It’s fine, Jake. Marriage is the death of love anyway. Getting a divorce is the right choice.”
Then, he sighed when he recalled his own matters.
“What’s wrong?” Jake asked coolly.
Since they were good friends, Theodore had to tell Jake the truth. He was quick to lament, “I don’t want to get married!
“My dad has been forcing me to marry that ugly heiress with a face full of acne from Savant Group! That heiress used to live abroad, so I could still avoid her! I heard that she returned to Dornwick recently, which explains why my dad has begun nagging me again!
“Hell, he’s even decided on a wedding date for us! He wants me to hurry up and marry that ugly duckling! Ugh! I’m so anxious that my hair has literally turned gray!”
