Chapter 293
Her hands were balled into fists, her nails digging into her palms, the slight pain bringing her back to reality.
"Everett, you don't need to butter me up anymore. What I want, you can't give me, and I'm done asking."
"But... you are right about one thing. Since I've decided to keep the baby, I have to think about its future. I can't take away its rights before it's even born. If you agree to a peaceful divorce, after the baby is born, we can share custody. You'll still be its dad and can visit whenever you like, or even have them stay with you from time to time. That way, the baby gets both a mom and a dad!"
This was the best arrangement Selena could come up with.
If Everett agreed, she wouldn't hold any grudges. Maybe they could even be friends for the baby's sake.
Her words made Everett's brow furrow a bit, and the smile faded from his lips.
In truth, Selena still wanted to leave him.
So, who would she turn to next? Callum?
But whoever it was, he couldn't stand it!
Everett knew they wouldn't reach a resolution today, but that was alright. As long as she was still within reach, he was confident she'd come around eventually.
He didn't answer her suggestion, just said, "You must be tired today, get some rest."
He got up, smoothing out his clothes, "I'm heading back to the office. Call me if you need anything, alright?"
After waiting a few moments without a word from Selena, who still had her head down, he frowned slightly but then turned and left with long strides.
Once the sound of his car driving away faded into the distance, Selena slowly opened her eyes, taking in the familiar bedroom.
Everything looked the same, yet everything was different. It was both absurd and heartbreaking!
After that day, Everett tried to be the perfect Campbell family husband. He canceled all his social events to be home every evening, having dinner with Selena, taking her for walks, and cuddling with her while they read parenting books and
résearched baby care together.
His desk, once overflowing with work documents, gradually filled with parenting books and guides on how to support a pregnant wife's well-being.
Even when Selena was distant, he
stayed calm, never lashing out or being sarcastic. At most, when he was frustrated, he'd pull her into deep kiss-his way of both

punishing and finding a bit of relief, given her fragile health.
Yet, he always made time to accompany her to every prenatal checkup, no matter how busy. He even hired a specialist to teach him how to massage his pregnant wife for relaxation and help Selena with light exercises to prepare for childbirth.
Time slipped by quickly.
The baby was now three months along, and during today's checkup, the doctor praised how well the pregnancy was progressing and was impressed with the herbal supplements she was taking. "Just shows how awesome traditional medicine can be!"
Selena finally felt a weight lift off her shoulders, and she was genuinely happy. This little one had been through so much already; keeping the pregnancy intact was no small feat. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
That evening, after a bath, Selena lay down to sleep. Pregnancy had her going to bed early and waking up early.
Everett, not wanting to sleep apart, usually wrapped up work in his study by midnight before joining her.
But tonight, just as she closed her eyes, he came back earlier than usual.
Selena heard Everett's footsteps nearing, stopping beside the bed. He lifted the covers and she felt the mattress dip as he lay down.
She caught the faint scent of his shower gel and was puzzled he'd showered so soon.
But she quickly understood why, as his warm body pressed gently against her back.
