Mr.Right

Chapter 12.

Chapter 12.

Silence.

Intense silence fills the house and I'm too scared to even let out a breath.

If this was a horror movie, I'd be in front of the screen, yelling at the characters to run out of the house

and get help because that's what I'm good at. Running when things go wrong.

Suddenly, I hear footsteps in the living room and the creaking of a door opening. The sound chills my

bones, but the lights shining in the mini living room seem to calm me a bit.

Surprisingly, I don't run out of the door, mainly because I'm too tired and sleepy. Instead, I grab a bat

resting in a corner and position it between my hands for self-defence.

I edge dangerously close to the main living room and see a figure bent forward in front of the

refrigerator. The door of it blocks his face and the sight of it sends icy shivers down my spine.

But this is not a horror movie. This is real life we're talking about, so I tighten my grip on the bat,

moving towards the figure slowly and quietly.

Then I attack.

Within minutes, my bat has beaten him senseless and the stranger sprawls on the floor in a heap.

"You thief!" I cry out as the bat continues to come in contact with his head and waist.

Before I can do much more damage, however, I hear footsteps running towards me and, the next thing

I know, Maverick has jumped out from nowhere, blocking me from the crumpled body on the floor with

a terrified look on his face.

"Whoa! What's going on?"

"Move!" I yell, raising the bat again. "There's a thief in the house!"

"That's my stepbrother," He cries out and confusion drags it's way across my face.

"Your stepbrother is a thief?"

"There is no thief!"

I let the information sink into my aching head as realization dawns on me, then I let the bat fall from my NôvelDrama.Org © content.

hands.

"Oh."

"Jesus Christ, Mave!" mutters the strange man, sitting up and rubbing his head. "I didn't know you had

a girlfriend who's a black-belt in Karate." He winces in pain and struggles to get to his feet. "Chick,

maybe let out a war cry before attacking me with a Katana Sword in future."

"It was a bat," I say stubbornly.

"I would've died either way." He looks too well dressed for me to consider him a thief. What was I

thinking? He has similar hair to Maverick and there is a slightly boyish look about his appearance. He

kind of looks like he's Jack's age.

"What are you even doing at my house?" asks Maverick now, frowning a little. "I changed the house

code and told you not to come back here."

"Yeah about that." He gives a boyish grin. "I hacked the new code."

"Why would you even..." Maverick squeezes his eyes shut in frustration before pointing to the door.

"Get out."

"Geez. Couldn't you even be more polite about it?"

"Please, get out."

"Hey," I say almost in a whisper and both brothers turn in my direction. "Why doesn't he just stay for

dinner?"

Maverick stares at me. His expression quite clearly says 'Are you kidding?', while his brother merely

grins and slings an arm around my shoulders.

I get a good whiff of his Balenciaga perfume.

"I like how you think, warrior woman," he says.

"Her name is April." Maverick frowns even more.

His brother ignores him. "I'm Callum. Nice to meet you June."

"It's April." I'm the one to frown at him this time.

"That's what I said." Callum pats my shoulders before sauntering off into the kitchen. If he didn't remind

me so much of Jack, I would've been pissed he got my name wrong.

Damn. I missed my brother.

"Do not touch my granola bars." Maverick follows him suspiciously, leaving me in the living room.

Looks like I'm not going to be sleeping any time soon.
