He deliberately teased, "And you're not the only one who have sought me out. There are plenty of others begging for this...

Freya, her mind focused on securing a favor from Emyr, clenched her teeth and snapped, "Fine. Just send me Master Field's address."

After arriving at the retirement home behind Beacon Hospital, Freya was subjected to several layers of identity checks before finally knocking on the door of a small courtyard.

A middle-aged woman greeted her and led her inside, giving detailed instructions along the way. "The clothes haven't been washed yet. Master Field doesn't like the smell of detergent, so you'll need to wash everything by hand with soap nuts. Lunch will be delivered by a hotel; your job is to arrange it. Master Field doesn't like to be disturbed, so after you finish these tasks, you'll rest in the servant's quarters. Don't wander

around."

Freya's expression shifted when she heard the last part. "What if I need to speak to him?"

The woman handed her a notepad. "If you need to tell him something, just write it down and leave it on the table in the living room. He will respond when he sees it. But be careful not to violate his rules, or he won't be pleased."

Freya took the notepad and muttered, "Got it."

She hadn't expected so many demands from an elderly man. But given Basil's stature, she swallowed her irritation and carried on.

Once the woman left, Freya's gaze wandered to the attic, where the sound of old soap dramas floated down, though she could see no one.

Intrigued, she considered going upstairs for a closer look. Just then, a voice boomed from above. "Make me a pot of tea."

Freya's face lit up with hope. "Coming!"

It felt like fate was on her side. Quickly, she prepared a pot of tea and headed upstairs.

She pushed the door open carefully, and the sound of the soap opera grew louder.

By a window covered in vines sat a rocking chair. Basil lounged in it, legs crossed, enjoying the sun, completely at ease. A folding fan hid his face.

Freya stepped forward. "Master Field, the tea is ready."

Basil didn't move. His voice, muffled behind the fan, responded, "My stomach's not well. I don't drink green

tea."

Freya's expression faltered. "Sorry, I'll go make something else."

She quickly rushed back downstairs to prepare a different tea. When she

returned, Basil still hadn't moved. "I've been craving some selenium-rich tea," he remarked casually.

Freya took a deep breath. "I'll make it right away."

selenium-rich tea is ready."

This time, Basil didn't say a word.

Freya leaned in, only to hear soft, rhythmic breathing from under the fan.

Basil had fallen asleep!

Her face darkened. If it weren't for the warnings she'd received about his strange temperament, she would've suspected he was deliberately messing with her.

She didn't dare to wake him. With a frustrated sigh, she set the tea down and went downstairs to start washing the clothes.

Meanwhile, as Freya's footsteps faded, Basil casually tossed his fan aside, took a sip of his tea, and pulled out his phone. He sent a text, "Brat, guess what I'm doing?"

At that very moment, Charmaine had just returned to her villa. Seeing the message, she could almost imagine the mischievous grin on the old man's face.

She quickly replied, "Are you intentionally tormenting Freya?"

Basil wrote back, "How dare you talk to me like that! I'm avenging you!"

Charmaine chuckled. "Yes, yes. You're the best, Master Field! Thank you!"

Basil snapped, "Don't think I don't know you're teasing me. You may not mind, but I'll always protect you. No one can b

you in my eyes!"

Charmaine's heart warmed as she read that message. Looking back, despite everything she had lost, life had still been kind to her.

She had lost her family, but she had something that transcended blood ties.

She typed a heartfelt reply. "I'm sincere. Thank you, Master Field, for all your kindness!"

She paused, then added a cute emoji before sending it. "Love ya!"

Basil grinned widely as he looked at the last two messages. Without missing a beat, he took a screenshot and shared it in the group chat. "My good disciple sent this to me early this morning. Gosh, why is she so clingy?"

At that moment, lan Nicholson, who was supervising the youngest disciples during their morning drills, looked up. "Charmaine?"

Kenneth Day, reviewing design blueprints in the aerospace courtyard, responded skeptically, "No way! Basil, when did you start faking screenshots?"

Basil scoffed and quickly sent another image-this time of a plate of spaghetti. "My precious disciple came over early this morning to personally make this for me to

eat."
