"If you don't believe me, feel free to test it. Let's see who gets kicked out of
Eragos once those people break in," Charmaine said, her tone cold and confident.
She glanced at the battered door lock, barely hanging on.
Her lips parted, the words slipping out effortlessly.
"Five."
Leah clenched her teeth, but her eyes betrayed a flicker of panic.
"Four.
"Three."
The lock finally gave way, leaving just a single catch left, hanging on by a thread.
"Two."
Leah instinctively held her breath, tension building in her chest.
Charmaine's smile deepened, the amusement in her eyes making the atmosphere feel even colder.
"One."
With a resounding crash, the heavy door was kicked open from the outside.
Elvia and a group of security guards stormed in, scanning the room with sharp eyes. Their gazes froze upon seeing Leah crumpled on the floor, clutching her injured hand, her head hung low like a broken flower.
Elvia's shock was instantaneous. Pointing at Charmaine, she snapped, "Arrest her! She purposely harmed Ms. Nelson!"
Charmaine didn't even flinch, her smile remaining in place.
"Hold on..."
Leah trembled, her voice barely audible. "Wait!"
She lifted her head, her face pale and contorted into a weak, forced smile. "Ms. Rue, it wasn't Charmaine. I-I just tripped and fell."
Elvia, without hesitation, moved toward Leah and placed a hand on her back. She immediately felt the wetness soaking through the thin fabric of Leah's clothing.
Her eyes widened in surprise as she noticed the swelling of Leah's wrist. "Leah, what happened to your hand?!"
"I'm so sorry, Ms. Rue," Leah said, her voice strained with pain. "I can't perform anymore. We need to find Celeste right away."
Elvia shook her head firmly. "No, we can't do that. This conference is too important. Anyone who disrupts the order is sent to the time-out room. No one can leave until it ends."

Leah pretended to feel frustration and guilt, her voice dripping with faux remorse. "But the performance! This is all my fault. If I had been more careful, this wouldn't have happened. The piano piece was specially composed for the Elders as a tribute. There's no time to find someone else to learn it.
Inside, however, she was secretly pleased.
Charmaine, you may have broken my hand, but so what?
Celeste won't be able to perform now!
If I can't have it, neither can you!
Before Leah could enjoy her small victory, Charmaine's voice cut through the moment, frowning. "Do you have the sheet music? I can play it."
In the main hall, after two rounds of performances, there was a brief ten-minute intermission. Many of the business owners took advantage of the break to network and socialize.
The Elders remained untouchable in their exclusive section, but the businessmen in the back rows eagerly moved closer to the front to try and catch a glimpse of the action.
At the Crosses family's table, the patriarch wore an unreadable expression, signaling that anyone who wasn't invited should stay away. The others hesitated, keeping their distance, but fawned over those seated in the second row.
Meanwhile, the Nelsons had become the center of attention. Whispers spread like wildfire, especially when people learned that the next performer would be none other than the Nelsons' daughter.
"Everyone says Ms. Nelson is beautiful, graceful, and incredibly talented. I can't believe we get to hear her perform at this conference! What a lucky day!"
Olympia covered her mouth and smiled modestly. "Oh, it's nothing. Ms. Rue has been so kind to notice my daughter."
"Are you talking about Ms. Elvia Rue, the international pianist? I've heard she's very strict. If she's chosen Ms. Nelson, she must be a true virtuoso!"
"And don't forget, tonight's piano solo was specially composed for the Elders. It's an incredible piece, the highlight of the evening!"
"Everyone in the Nelsons family is remarkable. Ms. Nelson surely inherited the best traits from both Mr. and Mrs. Nelson. It's no wonder she's so exceptional!"
Olympia's smile grew wider, and Willard looked like he was floating with pride. They exchanged a silent glance, silently acknowledging that Leah was their lucky charm-bringing all the attention and glory to the Nelsons tonight.
"Please, don't say that. My daughter just graduated. She still has so much to learn. I'm sure she'll need your guidance as she moves forward," Olympia added with a humble smile.
"Mrs. Nelson, you're too modest. Ms. Nelson has accomplished so much already at such a young age. Give it some time, and she'll certainly achieve even greater things. Perhaps we'll need her expertise in the future!"

"How disgusting. An adopted daughter inheriting 'genes'? Their biology teacher would be furious."
Kane listened to the endless praise and insincere flattery behind him, rubbing his arms in annoyance.
