Chapter 177
Accompanied by Juliet, Mikayla walked through the entire women's clothing store at the Universal Mall, only covering half of it and Mikayla was already surrendering tiredly.
In the end, Mikayla was exhausted, so she grabbed Juliet and found a fine dining restaurant to take a break and recharge.
Juliet was known for her great shopping stamina, reaping a full harvest, while Mikayla only picked two inner pieces.
Finding a seat with a good view, Mikayla felt like this whole trip was just to either keep an eye on Juliet or simply tire herself out.
After placing her shopping bags down, Mikayla sat at the table, looking drained.
Evening activities with Carlos were taxing, with work keeping her busy during the day, and then she had to go shopping after work. There just wasn't enough energy for all of that.
"Why did you only buy two pieces of clothing today? And they are all inner pieces..." Juliet looked at Mikayla's lightly filled bag.
Mikayla picked up the coffee poured by the waiter and took a sip. She casually said, "I don't need to worry about clothes. Carlos has already taken care of all the new styles for the spring season."
"Oh my goodness! Carlos is just in the rhythm of the perfect man! Mikayla, how come you always have such good taste? I am so envious of you right now..." Juliet, with a look of deep admiration, gazed at Mikayla up close.
Suddenly getting too close, her face surprised Mikayla. "Don't, don't envy me!"
This girl didn't have a clue just how much Carlos could be a handful in the evenings.
"You don't know what you have, not realizing how many people envy you! Good background, a great figure, and not to mention your looks are top- notch. And your husband spoils you so much... I still don't know when Brantley will propose to me!" Juliet sat at the table, looking troubled.
For her friend Mikayla, Juliet was not just envious but genuinely happy for her. In a woman's life, meeting someone who cherishes you isn't easy. While Juliet may be absent-minded, she could see Carlos was sincere with Mikayla.
"Don't rush it! What's meant to be will be," Mikayla advised.
The waiter brought their ordered dishes, placing them on the table side by side, and after a final check between the menu and the table, she said, "Your dishes are all here."
Mikayla nodded.
The two started eating.
Shopping for women was indeed a physically demanding activity, and after one round, they were starving.
Having eaten something to line their stomachs, Juliet spoke up, "Oh, Mikayla. Brantley told me. Mr. Callahan is interested and wants to set his precious daughter up with Brantley, but he declines. Hey, isn't that a surprise? I was so worried he'd break up with me when we were together yesterday! He might choose that girl named Sienna..."
"Last night, when Mikayla heard Juliet's voice, she had already guessed. Seeing Juliet today, she was almost certain that Brantley had chosen Juliet. Otherwise, she would have hugged her and cried a long time ago.
"
"What's up? Are you feeling envious?" Juliet teased.Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
"Just eat!" Mikayla stuffed a bite of food into her mouth and then said, "Are you almost done shopping too? I won't accompany you for long. Take me home later! Ms. Klein..." Mikayla's tone is slightly ingratiating.
"So soon! You're rare to accompany me for a while. Are you in a rush to go home and be with Carlos? Come clean!" Juliet said.
A sour remark, making Mikayla smile wryly.
"Almost done! Let's go shopping together another time. A lot is going on at the company lately. By the way, do you know anyone at Nebula Entertainment named Wilson?"
"Do you plan on joining the entertainment industry?" Juliet was surprised.
Mikayla rolled her eyes at Juliet. "You have such a wild imagination. I asked Wilson to keep an eye out for a new talent. The company is looking to sign a new endorser because of that thing you reminded me about last time. I had it checked out in time, thanks to your reminder."
"Oh! That thing. The recent frenzy around Lauren's incident was quite intense. Luckily, you handled it well and didn't get dragged down. Wilson even invited me to his star-studded party the other day! All his star line-up will be there, but I declined. Not interested. If you want to
network, I'll touch base with Wilson later. It should be fine," Juliet said.
Mikayla didn't bother correcting Juliet. It was a problem she could solve with money. Juliet was simplistic in her thinking, so it was best to keep it simple or not mention it at all.
"Yeah. You contact him. I'll take this opportunity to relax a bit." If all the stars under Wilson went, she might as well go and see if she could pick one herself.
The two of them had some fruit and drinks before calling the waiter to pay and leave.
As they exited the fine dining restaurant, the pair prepared to walk to the other end and take the elevator downstairs to the underground parking lot. But halfway through, an uncomfortable voice rang out.
"Look at her, acting all poor, yet shopping at luxury stores! Can she afford it?" a sharp and mocking voice, especially loud and unpleasant at this relatively quiet time.
"Forget it. She's not that bad off. Coming from the countryside and landing a supporting role job is quite an accomplishment," another voice, seemingly assisting but subtly mocking the other's background.
Curious, Juliet pulled Mikayla to a stop, eager to see how the woman being talked about would respond.
"Tsk! No background, no talent but still trying to break into the entertainment circle? Better scram!" the harsh woman, seeing the woman being targeted and not responding, continued in an even nastier tone.
"You! You're going too far!" a chubby man hurriedly ran over from an ice cream shop, holding two beverages, almost splashing them on the two
women.
"Forget it. Let's go." Stopped by the other woman, the situation calmed down only when the woman's manager arrived, allowing the sharp-faced woman to quiet down.
"Don't let me see you on set again! Meredith!" A small character who had the nerve to compete with her for the role of supporting actress last night. Simply unbelievable." With that, the two women left side by side.
The scattered onlookers, witnessing the spectacle coming to an end, began to disperse.
Only Juliet, with an indignant expression, wanted to step forward and speak out. Mikayla, however, stopped her, urging her not to act impulsively. "Meredith, are you okay?" the chubby man asked softly.
The woman referred to as Meredith raised a delicate face, her reddened eyes shimmering with determination. "I'm fine."
"Meredith, why didn't you speak up just now? Why didn't you say anything?" the chubby man questioned.
"I..." Meredith said.
"Meredith, I brought you to Xosa
because I was drawn to your
beautiful face and artistic talents. It's
okay to just have a pretty face, but you don'twant to be used for ulterior motives... Last night, you missed such a great opportunity... Do you know how much time and effort I wasted just to help you go for that rare supporting role? Meredith, let's terminate our contract..." the chubby man said.
