Chapter 443
"Okay. Thanks, Kevin," I said, forcing a smile.
I plopped on the couch after hanging up, the tears streaming uncontrollably down my face.
What Ethan did to me... His possessiveness and harshness...
I couldn't believe that the man I thought about all day and night in my past life would treat me like that. I thought he'd changed. It never crossed my mind that he'd hurt me like this. He ruined it all by himself. No. I had to get away from this place as soon as possible.
I weakly stumbled my way to the door. With hands still trembling, I opened it.
It was bright outside. I dashed outside and ran as fast as I could. Every step felt like I was stepping on sharp blades that pierced my feet.
I knew not how long I had run or where I had run to. When I was totally worn out and couldn't take another step, I sat on the ground and cried my lungs out.
The passersby glanced at me strangely.
"Isn't she the winner of the fashion contest two days ago? Why is she here?" someone pondered aloud.
I stared blankly at the people around me and saw an old lady slowly walking over to me, wanting to help me up.
At that moment, all I wanted was to return to the city I was most familiar with. With this thought in mind, I patted the dust off my clothes and slowly stood up.
Kevin replied to my message soon enough. He told me that he'd already helped me book a flight back home.
I looked at the details of the flight on my phone screen, feeling myself calm down a little. What I needed to do next was to head to the airport as quickly as possible and take that flight.
As for what Ethan would think of me and whether he'd come after me, I couldn't care less about those anymore. This time, I would surely cut all ties with the past. I wouldn't be merciful or hesitant again.
I hailed a cab and told the driver to drive me to the airport. The scenery zoomed past as I looked out the window and silently said goodbye to this city.
Goodbye, Englenor. Goodbye, Ethan.
The cab reached the airport soon enough. I took my luggage out of the trunk and walked into the bustling hall.
It was crowded in the airport, and everyone walked in a hurry. After I was done checking in, I headed to the boarding gate.
Gazing out the frameless glass windows, I saw the planes in the distance, and I suddenly felt much relieved.
Taking a deep breath, I took a step forward. Out of the blue, I heard the familiar voice of a man calling my name.
"Evelyn!"
I froze. I didn't have the courage to turn back.
It was Ethan. Why was he here? Was he going to drag me back with him?
"Evelyn, where are you going?" Ethan's panicked voice sounded clearer and louder this time.
I quickened my pace. I wanted to have nothing to do with him. The boarding gate was just a few steps away. I fastened my footsteps.
All of a sudden, I felt someone grab my arm with a vice-like grip. Taken by surprise, I stumbled.
Turning around, I met Ethan's

tightly, and with a hoarse voice, he asked, "Where are you going? Are you leaving me?"
Somehow, I felt suffocated hearing those questions. Would I fail to take this final step?
But I wouldn't just give in like that. struggled against my inner self and yelled at Ethan, "Let me go! I'm

leaving! I don't want to see Youve
again!"
"Hey! Look at that guy over there! What is he doing?" someone bellowed. "That's Ethan Grayson!"
"So what if he's rich! How dare he coerce a woman like that!"
"Hey, you! Stop what you're doing, you scumbag!"
The airport security personnel slowly made their way toward me and Ethan. Startled to see the security, Ethan's grip on my arm loosened, and he stood unmoving beside me.
