Chapter 549
My face turned serious, and I said with determination, "I'd do anything for Zach, even if it means putting my life on the line. If Murphy and the others keep pushing me, they can't blame me when things get ugly!"noveldrama
Madison nodded, looking thoughtful. "I've never seen you this mad before. I guess a mother's love really is the strongest thing. You'd give up everything for your kid."
"Yeah, exactly," I said, my gaze unwavering. "I've gone a whole year without Zach, and it feels like a lifetime. I can't lose him again. I'll get him back, no matter what it takes."
Madison stared at me for a moment, then let out a long sigh. "I get it. If I had a kid, I'd probably go to any lengths, too, but you're putting yourself out there by doing this. Murphy still has no clue it was you on the phone with him."
Then, she hesitated as if having trouble finding the right words, before adding, "But Murphy's got way too much power. I'm worried that with just the two of us—"
I scoffed and cut her off. "That's exactly why I need to get everyone on my side. I want both the people in the underworld and the law to see what a piece of trash Murphy really is. And if he still doesn't fall in line, I'll make sure he's done for!"
Madison was shocked, staring at me in disbelief. "Are you out of your mind? Going up against Murphy is like signing your death sentence."
I gave a bitter laugh, my eyes hard with resolve. "Then let me face it. I'm done running and being scared. This time, I'm taking him head-on!"
Seeing that I was resolute, Madison shook her head helplessly. "Fine, I'm with you. But you better be certain. Once we act, it's all or nothing. One slip-up and we could be done for."
"I'm not scared of dying," I said calmly, my gaze steady and firm. "I'd give up everything for Zach. I won't back down no matter how tough the road ahead."
Madison stared at me. After a long pause, she nodded slowly. "I have to say, I respect your determination. Alright, I'm on board. Whatever you say, that's how "we're doing it!"
I gave her a small smile and patted her shoulder. "That definitely makes me feel better."
I started pacing the room, trying to come up with a plan. Then, out of nowhere, an idea hit me.
"Madison, do you still have connections in the underworld?" I asked.
"Of course, Madison said with a smug grin. "Even though I've been behind bars, none of the old contacts have forgotten what did for them. I can get a crew together for you in no time."
I gave a nod, feeling reassured. "Perfect. Get in touch with them and have them come as soon as possible. We'll begin by putting the heat on Murphy through the underworld."
Out of nowhere, I thought of something. "By the way, how's Vivian holding up?"
"She's doing just fine," Madison said with a sneer. "After a rough couple of days, she's been pretty well-behaved. Now she spends her days begging, saying she'll do anything if we let her go."
I nodded, deep in thought.
Even though we had Vivian in our hands, her ties to Murphy were probably more complicated than they seemed. I needed to talk to her again-maybe I could get herto spill something useful.
"Alright, go ahead and handle what you need to. I'll take care of Vivian," I said.
Madison nodded, quickly getting up and contacting the mob guys.
As for me, I made my way toward the room where Vivian was being kept, gearing up for another round of questioning.
I opened the door and found her curled up in the corner, looking worn out, her
face streaked with tears. When she saw me, she flinched, her eyes full of fear.
What do you think?
