Verruckt’s face was lost in the shadows. “Don’t worry. As long as you’re with Jareth, you’ll be safe tonight.”

Allison nodded. “That’s good.”

She glanced at the rearview mirror. A few silver-gray cars had been tailing them since they left the apartment. Jareth and his crew were probably in those cars.

Allison asked, “I’ll leave with Mr. Williamson, but what about you?”

Verruckt chuckled. His eyes were unreadable as they met hers. “What’s this? Are you concerned about me?” He seemed amused.

Allison quickly looked away. “I’m not.”

She had planned to get him to talk, but in the end, she was the one who’d been played. Verruckt was unbearably smug and cheeky!

Allison arrived at the location shortly after. The event was being held at an exclusive private club. Luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars pulled up and drove off in a constant flow. The guests stepping out of the cars were all dressed in their finest, entering together in pairs.

The car came to a stop at the entrance. A staff member approached to help with parking and leaned in to speak. “Good evening, sir. Over half the guests are already here, including Mr. Blake and his wife.”

Verruckt gave a lazy nod. “Alright,” he said. He then placed Allison’s hand on his arm without much thought. “Hold on tight, and don’t give us away.”

“Okay,” Allison assured him as he guided her toward the main entrance.
