Chapter 12
ETHAN
We hardly slept at all last night. I couldn’t stop having my way with her. I wish I could have marked her, but unfortunately that was not an option. I want her to want it completely. I know it will happen, I just have to be patient. My wolf wasn’t understanding, he kept trying to push me to mark her. It was like fighting a bear to keep him at bay.
Right now as I watch her beautiful face sleep, I wonder if she ever does the same. Watch me with such intensity and admiration. She is my world. I wouldn’t have thought that anyone could feel this strongly about another person, but then I met Madison and our worlds collided. Her red hair is framing her face. She is sleeping so peacefully, I almost don’t want her to wake up.
As if the universe is against me having a good morning there is a banging on the door. It takes me a second to realize, through my irritation, that this shouldn’t be happening at all. No one knows that we are out here. Madi pops up looking around. “Who is it?” She asks me.
I shake my head. “I have no idea. Maybe a camper or lost hiker.” I get out of bed and slip my slacks from last night back on. I charge to the door, irritated that some asshole ruined my perfect morning.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
I get to the door and call for whoever is on the other side. “Who is it?”
I hear one man answer. “I am looking for a friend. Perhaps you can help me out. Would you be able to open the door and we can talk?”
The door is thick but not that thick, through the cracks in the door I can catch scents from outside. There are at least three if not more wolves outside. This is not a friendly chat. “Sorry, I haven’t seen anyone. You should move on.”
“Come on friend, just a quick chat.” The same man presses.
“I don’t like people. Sorry, it’s best if you move on.”
Then I hear someone else approach the porch. “Do you smell that?” He asks.
“Smell what?” The first one answers.
“I know that smell. He has a female in there with him.” The newcomer sounds confused but determined.
“So, what of it? We were supposed to collect him.”
“Change of plans, collect the girl.” He growls. Their voices are low, but not that low.
Oh, hell no that isn’t happening.
Madi comes up behind me. “Who is it?” She whispers.
“Someone that we don’t want to meet.” I whisper back.
The first guy comes back to the door. “Hey, friend. I am going to need you to send out the female. We will leave in peace if you just send her out. If you don’t, we are going to have to take her by force.”
I call back through the door. “You are mistaken there is no female in here.” I look at Madi to let her know not to say a word.
“We aren’t as dumb as you think we are and I know you aren’t as dumb as you look. Send out the girl.”
“What if I don’t?”
“Like I said, we will have to come in by force.” He growls. I know it is difficult but not impossible to break into this house. The biggest defense was the fact that people didn’t know that it existed.
Madi looks at me. “Let them take me. I don’t want them to hurt you. I am no one. I am expendable.”
I grab her up in my arms. “There is no one less expendable in the world. I can’t live without you baby. Why the hell do they even want you? Except to hurt me.”
She puts her hands on my chest. “Logically it makes sense to let them take me. You can go to your father for help.”
I got an idea. “That’s right my father. I can try to call him.” I rush back to the bedroom and search for my cell phone. When I look there are no bars. That has never happened before. What the fuck? They must have a jammer or something. Shit.
Madi comes into the room. “What about linking him?”
“I’m too far away. Fuck, we are sitting ducks here right now.” I hear growling. Poking my head out of the room I see Deimos growling at the door. “What if we shift and fight our way out. Deimos can help.”
“We don’t know how many are out there. They planned to take you, I am sure they have plenty out there.” She points out.
Then banging on the door sounds out through the house. “Send her out, Alpha’s son. We just want the girl then we will be on our merry way.”
“I need time to get her ready, we just woke up.” I yell back.
“You have thirty minutes.”
I turn back to Madison. “I am going to try to contact anyone in the pack, it’s harder when you aren’t focused on one person but if I try to send out something to the whole pack maybe I can get someone. It’s the only choice we have.”
I sit down on the bed and try to focus on the link. Only I am distracted by Madison getting dressed. Is she giving up? “Baby, sit with me.”
She stops rummaging in the closet. “You heard what they said, we only have a half an hour. You said this was a last ditch effort. I think I might have a plan that will help you to find me after they take me.” She has a determined look on her face.
I just nod, what else can I do? I don’t want her to leave my side, but if I volunteer to be taken too then there will be no one to know where we are. God only knows what they have planned. That just enrages me even more. If they lay one finger on her I will kill everyone of them. I try to focus on the link, but I don’t get a single wolf. No one is close enough.
“I’m not getting anyone. What’s your plan?” I noticed that she put on her baggy clothes. The ones I hate. At least I know that she doesn’t want to look hot for her kidnappers. She grabs a green shirt out of the closet, then heads back to me.
She holds her hand out. “I need your knife.”
I passed it over without question. I am assuming that she just wants to cut up the shirt for some reason, but that is not what she does. She unfolds my knife then takes a long deep slice down her left arm.
I jump up when I see the first few drops of blood. “What the hell are you doing?”
She starts wiping up the blood with the shirt. “I am creating a credible scent. We need to cut this shirt up into little pieces. I will put the pieces in my pocket and create a trail, by dropping little pieces along the trail. As far as we know they walked in, that means that they will walk out. At least to wherever they have their vehicle. I don’t know what to do from there. Hopefully you can get a call out after we leave and they can find me fast.”
Now I have an idea. “I have a better idea. We can do that for the way to the vehicle, if I am able to get a hold of someone fast then it shouldn’t be a problem. But I am going to turn the location on on my phone. It doesn’t work now, but they should turn off their jammer after a while. If we hide the phone on you then it will transmit your location to us.”
“Where are we going to hide it where they won’t find it?”
I have to think for a moment, where is one place that they won’t look. After a minute I got it. “Your underwear, they won’t dare to look there. You are wearing your baggy clothes so they won’t be able to see it. Even if they search you they won’t touch you there. I just need to set the phone up.” I pick the phone back up off the bed where I dropped it. I click the phone onto sharing the location with my dad’s phone. Also Sam’s phone. If I can’t get my dad to listen to me then maybe I can get Sam to join me to find her.
I pull her close to me and open her pants, so I can hide the phone. “Baby, I want you to know that no matter what happens, I am going to find you. You are the most important person in the world to me. I have to find you.”
She pulls my head up so that I am looking her in the eyes. “Promise me that you will not go looking for me on your own. I can’t have something happening to you. You are far too important to be brought down, because of someone like me.”
“If I can’t get anyone to listen to me, are you expecting me to just let you be gone. Are you out of your fucking mind?”
“Get them to listen. Don’t come alone. Be prepared. I need to know that you are safe. I love you Ethan. I am doing this to make sure that you are safe, don’t make my sacrifice worthless. Do you hear me Ethan, Stay Safe.” She emphasizes that last part.
“I want to rip them all apart right now.” I pull her close to me. She cradles my head to her belly.
“Promise me.” She whispers. I can tell that she is scared. This is so fucked up. How am I supposed to just let them walk away with her?
“I promise I will stay safe. You do whatever it takes to stay safe too. Fight if you have to, don’t let them hurt you.” I squeeze her body closer to mine.
“I will do what I can. Just find me. I don’t know why they would want to take me over you but at least you will be safe.”
“I know it doesn’t make sense. I figured if anything they would take us both. Not that you aren’t valuable, but only to me.”
“Hopefully we won’t be separated for long. I love you.” She kisses my head.
I stand and pull her to me while I kiss her. “I love you too. I don’t want you to go. I want you to be safe, right here next to me.”
“I know, but this is the best option that we have right now. We have a plan that is all that matters. We got this.” She is scared shitless, I can smell it on her, but she is trying to put on a strong front for me. I’m scared too, this could be the last time that I see her. I don’t like that thought. “We have to cut up this shirt, or else I bled for nothing.”
So we proceed to cut up the shirt. I hold it tight while she drags the knife over the fabric cutting it into small strips. Something that hopefully they won’t notice. After we have the shirt in the strips she pulls on her hoodie, the one that I hate and shoves the strips in the pocket. The clothes already smell like blood because of when I clawed her, so hopefully they won’t notice the scent. I want another option, something else to happen to let me know that we don’t have to do this.
