Harlow
Kim
Grimacing, I pushed Harlow’s disgusting body off me and jumped out of the bed. I wished I didn’t have to do what I was doing. It was good that he didn’t like kissing. Ew! Imagine if I had to do that with a man like him but you know what they say. You have to kiss many frogs to find your prince. That’s what I was trying to do and the prince was Zane Carrington. He was perfect, even his surname said so. I wondered if his mother knew he’d turn out to be so hot when she named him.
Zane Carrington had dropped me on the way after promising more but I did not hold that against him. He had looked fairly disturbed. Maybe he was not good at handling stress. There are people who lash out at others when they’re stressed. When I first joined the company, I wanted Harry Smith, but after meeting Zane and working in his office, Harry Smith was no longer interesting to me.
I hurried to the bathroom and scrubbed myself so hard as if I’d just been rolling in animal waste. I didn’t even want to think of what had just happened. I decided to focus on the main goal. Getting Maya out of my way. Sometimes, you have to make great sacrifices in order to get what you want.
When I got back to the room, Harlow was seated on the edge of the bed. I groaned before picking my clothes and putting them on while he typed something in his phone.
“So, when are you firing her?” I asked, putting on my black tight sweater. “I don’t want to be anywhere close to you again, dirty old man.”
He stood up and moved towards me. “Don’t pressure me. Maya is the junior actuarial officer and if you don’t know that’s a very important position in the company. It’s hard to find good replacements especially if the one leaving is as excellent as Maya.”This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“You know I want that position so you better get to it,” I told him. Everyone acted like Maya was some kind of perfect person and it made me so angry. I didn’t think there was anything she could do that I couldn’t, except playing soccer which I was not interested in.
“There are so many things you don’t know, young girl.” He said, sitting on the bed. I wished I didn’t have to see his hairy body. “One is that rich people have all the power in this country. You can act like you’re all that but I could make you disappear and no one will ever find your body. You might have a stupid video but I’m not sure you’ll still be having it by the end of the day. Stop acting like those horrible actresses on TV.”
“Say what you want but you should know that I may be poor but I’m definitely not stupid,” I turned my phone and showed it to him. I had dialed Mane’s number and he recorded the whole call. Harlow snatched my phone and stared at it before throwing it against the wall. I gasped and ran to pick up the important pieces like the battery which I could sell. Harlow knew how poor and desperate i was so I was not ashamed of gathering the last remains of my phone.
“You little-” he stood up, heading towards me.
“Kill me now if you want,” I was so angry I didn’t feel intimidated by his death glare. How dare he destroy the one thing I treasured most? My breathing had quickened and I just wanted to get out of the stupid hotel room.
“Who was listening?”
“He wasn’t just listening, he recorded it. You rich people like to think you’re everything. Now let’s see what your power will do for you.” I almost knocked him over when I passed by his side. “You better think of firing Maya if you know what’s good for you.”
“I can’t do anything right now. She’s serving her punishment at CEO’s office and you know he’s more superior. I would need her to make another mistake.”
“You will have to figure out something.”
I had arranged to meet up with my friend Jela at a bar but I was forced to cancel on her. I was too stressed. I knew I might end up drinking too much then I would be the one that got fired. I was still angry that Maya Bennett had not got a heavier punishment. Being the CEO’s assistant for a week did not seem like such a bad idea, especially when he was that hot. The only consolation I got was that Maya probably hated being a lowly assistant. It was time for her to get a taste of her own medicine. She liked bossing me around but it was now happening to her.
My street was fairly quiet that day, which was a good thing. I was able to think without being interrupted by a bunch of rowdy kids. I didn’t like my neighborhood because there were a lot of people, which made it really irritating. Luckily, I made it to my block without meeting anyone I knew.
My lips parted when I found my door open. I was very sure I had closed it before leaving. Inside was a mess. Clothes, papers, shoes were strewn all over the place. I searched for my original academic documents which I always kept under my mattress and they were gone.
“No no no!” I yelled, hands on both sides of my head. “This can’t be happening.”
Now who could have done this? Did Harlow send someone? Was Maya getting back at me for giving her the wrong time and therefore getting her into trouble? I collapsed onto the ground as tears rolled down my face. It was clear I had gotten myself into one big mess.
I remembered Harlow’s words. He had said he could make me disappear if he wanted. Was he the one who had taken the most important things I owned?
