Chapter 35
CASSANDRA
I’ve been awake for two months now, I’m not really sure, since I’ve lost track of time and I don’t know which days are which. Although I’m awake, I still feel dead because I can’t move or do anything, I can only sit still and listen to what is going on around me, and every time Nick comes to my bed, I feel so heartbroken because of how sad he sounds. I can her how heartbroken he is by the fact that I’m in a Coma. I just want to wake up, kiss and make love to him all night long, but I can’t.
Julian and Frank have been coming here a lot to see me, they tell me about how the police has intensified their search on Victoria, and I just hope and pray she doesn’t go near my family, because Coma or not, I’m going to kill her. They also tell me about how their business is booming and how they miss me, and how I should wake up quickly because Nick has not been himself since I went into a coma. Just a few days ago, they told me Julian is three weeks pregnant, and I wanted to scream for joy and hug her, and also tell her how happy I am for her but I can’t, and it breaks my heart
The worst part of all this is my daughter, I love hearing her voice and babbling, and the feel of her soft hands on my face whenever Nick brings her close to me, but it pains and breaks me that I’ve missed an entire year with her, and I can’t see her face ever again. It also pains me when the nurses replacing my drip talk about how lovely she is among themselves and how playful she is, and argue on who she loves more between them. Does she even know she’s my daughter? Whenever I hear them arguing about things like that, my heart breaks further because I’m her mother and yet I haven’t played or even carried her in my arms.
It saddens me to think I’ll never see her again since Nick has decided to let me go but I don’t blame him, I understand what he’s going and if I were in his shoes, I’d do the same thing. I don’t know for how long I’ve been laying here since Nick left with Bianca, but then I hear the door creak open slowly and I become alarmed because in all my years of being in this ward, no one has ever opened the door like that, and it sounds like the person is being sneaky. Could it be Victoria? Is she here to finish me off?NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
Fear grip me as I think of that possibility but then I hear a voice I don’t think I’ve heard before, and it sounds like the person is crying. “I’m so sorry Cassy, I really am. This is all happening because of my stupidity and inability to accept the truth…” Who the hell is this? And what is she talking about for crying out loud?
“…and now because of me, you’re here in a coma, and Nick and an innocent girl has been kidnapped, and knowing Victoria, she’ll probably kill Nick and sell your daughter…” My heart stops beating momentarily, and I feel my blood boil at the thought of Victoria harming my daughter and Nick. If you know all this, why don’t you call the cops or something, you idiot?
“I’m an idiot, I know that, but I can call the cops, It’s pointless calling them, Victoria has a spy in there, and…” She trails off as I realize she just replied my question, and hear her let out a muffled shriek, “You’re awake?”
I try to move and I realize I can. I open my eyes, and it’s takes a little while for me to finally adjust to the light since I’ve been in the dark for so long. I look at the person talking and realize it’s the lady that quit working for Nick because she was so in love with him. “What did you do?” I growl lowly, not wanting to alarm anyone, because they’ll probably put me under observation and I won’t be able to go save Nick. It’s not every day a person deemed dead wakes up.
She starts to shed tears and fall on the ground, “She came to me a couple days before she shot you in the park, and said she wanted you dead, and I should help her by gathering information on your whereabouts. I didn’t think and just did as she instructed me, but I was at the park that day and I know she was actually out for Nick and not you, so I cut my ties with her while keeping an eye on she and her activities. I saw when her men kidnapped your daughter and Nick and I know she’s going to get rid of them as soon as possible. I know where they’re being kept but I came here to confess before leaving to save them, because I’m turning myself in if I do survive the operation, and I can’t live with the guilt of knowing I put you in the position you’re in.”
I want to slap her but I don’t, she’s not my priority right now, my fiancée and daughter is. “I’m coming with you.”
“But you’re-”
“I said I’m coming with you. It’s not a request.” I state dangerously. She nods, and since she’s in a tank top and jeans, she gives me her flannel jacket to wear. I wear it on top of my hospital gown which I fold into a skirt, and after wearing her face cap, we both sneak out of the hospital. We get into her car, and she starts driving to the location. We stop at the street before the street where the building Victoria is holding my family captive, and then walk towards the building, making sure no one notices us.
“Follow me.” The lady says, and I follow her as we go through various rooms as quietly as possible before hearing the muffled groan of Nicholas, and I feel my heart sink to my stomach and my blood starts to boil and I find myself walking to the room, when the lady pulls me back.
“You can’t just barge in there. Follow me and keep the positions of all of them in the room in ur head, and when we go in later, get Nick and your daughter.” She whispers and although I want to argue, I don’t because she’s saying the truth, so I nod. We tiptoe to the door of the room which is slightly open and I peep in to see Nick tied to a chair, with blood dripping from the whip marks on his body, and his mouth while Victoria is brandishing a knife, and some men are holding Nicholas.
I clamp my mouth shut to keep me from crying and then spot a cage, with a small child sleeping it in. My baby. I move out of the way to let the lady also peep in. The lady brings out a knife from her pocket, gives me a gun and walks towards a set of exposed wires where she cuts them and the lights in the building go off.
“Now!” She says, collecting the gun from me and we burst into the room, and I immediately head for Victoria who looks shocked to see me, while the lady shoots at the men without missing. I push Victoria to the ground, and pick up the gun I can see on the table next to the chair Nick is sitting in. I point it at her and she smiles, getting up and dropping the knife.
“We can talk this-” She starts but the lady hits the back of her head with the gun, knocking her out, before calling the police. I free Nick, and hug him despite the amount of blood on his body.
“How?” He asks, still in shock.
“You once asked me to choose between death and you, and I chose you.” I say, hugging him. I rush to the cage and bring out my baby who is still sleeping peacefully. She’s so pretty. I start to cry and hug her.
“Momma.” I hear her say in her sleep and it makes me cry even more. Nick limps to us with a smile, “Her name is Bianca.”
I explain everything that has happened to him and soon we hear the police arrive with an ambulance. He looks disappointedly at the lady, before we step into the ambulance.
“I love you.” He says.
“I love you more, and we’ll get married.” I say.
“And have more kids.” I laugh, looking at my daughter who is now awake and is looking at me with smiling eyes, and I know life will be so much better for us.
