MISTAKE 14
Chapter 14: In Jail.
Kelsey was lounging in the living room when she heard her father suddenly rush out of his
study in a hurry.
“Where are my shoes? Hurry!” he shouted, startling his wife, who hurried out of the kitchen
in worry.
“What is going on?” she asked.
“Get my
my shoes. I need to go to the police station,” Mr. Jones rushed down the stairs.
“Why? Did something happen?” his wife asked.
“Stella called the police on Mother for visiting her in the hospital!” he dashed to the door, My shoes, now!” he shouted before noticing that Kelsey was still sitting on the couch.
“Did mother not go to the hospital because you asked? Yet you are here, unbothered even after hearing she is in the station,” he said as he put on his coat.
“I thought grandma went because of matters at the company,” Kelsey responded under her breath, but he still heard her clearly.
“She is in trouble because of you!” he scolded her.
“Don’t bother about this, Hurry to mother. How can they lock an old woman up?” his wife asked, bringing his shoes over.
“I will teach you a lesson when I come back,” he said and hurried out the door. When he left Kelsey looked over at her mother.
“Aunt actually dares send grandma to the police station?” Kelsey asked in shock. It was thought she had heard that the sky had split in two.
“Your aunt does not recognize us as family anymore, so you better be careful what you do,” her mother warned and returned to the kitchen.
Kelsey hummed a reply to her mother’s warning, but she did not take it seriously. She picked up the phone to call Anya.
“Your mother dares have grandma arrested, just wait and see what grandma does to you two!” Kelsey seemed to gloat the moment Anya picked her call.
Anya thought she had just heard a load of rubbish.
“The way you talk, It can’t be you think your grandmother is all powerful, right? Are you a toddler who thinks her grandmother is the creator of the world? What can she do? I suggest you use your tiny brain to ponder how you are going to deal with your wedding,” Anya scoffed
and ended the call.
Anya did not care about that family. She had work to do. Even though it was the weekend, she was very busy.
When her mother’s bills started getting too hard to bare, she did the only thing she knew. She wrote computer programs.
Anya had taken up a few jobs from her friends in college, slowly building a name for herself.
To make more money to pay off her debt, she worked as a freelance programmer when she returned from work each day.
The past few days had kept her too occupied to work, so she needed to put more effort this weekend.

While she worked into the day, Daniel got some work done himself. He found that he more relaxed when he knew where Anya was.
But as time passed and Daniel did not see her, he started to wonder what she was doing.
He could not understand why he was thinking of her a lot.
Once in a while, his mind would wander to her before shaking it off and continuing with work.
Time passed into the afternoon and he soon heard her approach the living room. He was greatly distracted and thought she came down for some food, but from his office door he soon found Anya seemed to be leaving the house.
“Where are you going?” Daniel had walked over quickly the moment he realized she was stepping out. There was a slight frown in his eyes and Anya could not tell why.
“I am going to visit my mother,” Anya did not could only answer him as she knew he was trying to restrict her. But Anya now knew not to fight this man.
“Let a driver take you,” he said. It was not a suggestion, it was an instruction. She knew that and knowing only made her more annoyed. She did not mind the guard as she had agreed to it, but she did not want to use his properties.
“No, thank you, I called a taxi. He can follow me,” she rejected, making sure to hide her
dissatisfaction. But she was not quite successful.
Daniel still noticed something when she said those words. He did not like that she was
dissatisfied.
“I insist. Why get a taxi, when there is someone to take you around?” he asked and turned to the butler, Mr. Hayes, who had stepped out to see Anya off.
“Get one of the cars to take her where she wants and bring her back,” he instructed and Anya held in the words begging to spew from her lips. She held down her anger and followed the butler out without looking at him. Her reaction only annoyed him more.
Daniel wanted to control everything in her life, he did not know when it started, but the feeling had been overwhelming him as of recent. It was a non ending cycle.
The more controlling he was, the more annoyed Anya was. The more she held down her anger and ignored him, the more annoyed he was. He did not like her ignoring him.
What Daniel did not understand was that Anya used to crave his attention, now it just hurts and she prefers to look away. Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Before he could say much of anything, Anya had left with the butler.
When he returned to Daniel’s office afterwards, he was utterly irritated and those on the other side of the zoom meeting could feel it, despite having no extraordinary ability.
Anya made her way over to visit her mother. When she got to the hospital, the driver opened the car door in her moment of distraction. She was not used to the feeling of being served and thanked him
profusely. When she got to her mother’s ward, she saw her mother snacking on
her bed.
“Is it okay for you to eat that, mum?” she asked as her eyes narrowed her eyes at the plate of spicy salad her mother had in hand,
“I asked her and she kept insisting that she could,” a woman visiting her family on the bed next to her mother said. It seemed she was the one who had brought the salad.
“Have you asked the nurses and doctors?” Anya looked at her mother with slight suspicion
“Of course!” Her mother quickly finished the last pits of mango in her bowl before handing it back to the woman who had given it to her.
“Thank you, it was tasty. Don’t mind her, she is too strict,” Stella said to the woman.
“As she should,” a voice sounded not too far away and they all looked towards the man walking in. He was doctor Joseph. Anya’s mother’s attending doctor.
“Did you ask me?” Doctor Joseph asked and Stella saw she had been caught in her lie.
“It’s just a plate of spicy Salad,” she looked away
“Mom!” Anya scolded.
“It’s fine, Miss Jones, It will not affect her. She can eat it,” Doctor Joseph said.
“You hear that?” Stella asked Anya with slight mirth in her eyes, “Always so strict for no reason,” she muttered.
“Stella will ask me next time, won’t she?” Doctor Joseph asked.
“Of course, It just looked so good so I could not help myself,” Stella agreed while looking at her daughter, Anya, who was taking out things from her bag.

“I had bought some dry mangoes yesterday to bring to you, it seems you do not need it,” Anya
said.
“No! I will eat,” Stella protested hurriedly.
“Her stomach is now a black hole. It seems she has recovered, Doctor Joseph,” Anya commented.
“She is doing fine,” the doctor said and nodded to the nurse next to him to draw the curtains between Stella’s bed and others, before they began checking her. Anya stood aside and let the doctor work. When he was done, the curtains were opened again.
“We should be able to discharge her in about two months and if she does even better, you, one month,” he said and Anya thanked him furiously.
“Miss Jones?” Someone called and Anya turned to find Doctor Steele in the ward.
