Anya nodded.
“A little hole can sink the ship. She has had a year to plan. From what I know it seems something went wrong with Lena family’s business years ago and the decided to trade with terrorists somehow. They set me up as an escape plan. They prob gured the money will
prove traced back to the Shaw family in some way. They needed someone among the Shaw family who the family would believe is the culprit and abandon. And it helped that I had fallen IN love with you, then and was trying to get along with your family, so she became friends with me. She probably even set up our marriage,” Anya said and Daniel felt his heart jump in his chest. He tried to stay focused on what she was saying.
“What do you mean she set up our marriage? I know how we got married, is there more that I should know?” he asked.
“I find it odd that not only do I look like the woman you live, I just happened to have saved grandpa. His accident was odd. On a busy road, no one heard him calling for help. He mistakes me for Selene and you, who is still in love with your childhood lover, agree to marry,” she explained.
“Aren’t You overthinking?” he asked and she shook her head.
“I don’t believe that you could be forced into marriage. You probably only went along with it after you met me. Look similar to Selene after all,” Anya said and he looked away. He felt she had seen through him.
He wondered how long she had been thinking of this to come to this realization.
“Now, Mary just realized this morning that you never knew you had a joint account with me or even were a signatory to my account because I made a mistake. I even slipped that I was trying to move the money and close down the account, but the accountant asked me to get Lena’s permission on our own account. Mary has been presenting herself to me as a big executive in the banking sector. When I have a problem with my account, obviously, I would go to my friend,” Anya said.
“So, she is suspicious of an account used as evidence I did not know I had that has been sending and receiving money to the Middle East. The same account we need Lena’s permission to do anything to?” he asked.
“Yes. I have passed a few things to her to solidify her suspicion. For her to say that the job has. been done and I can move the money, I am guessing the accountant has been caught,” Anya guessed.
“The ship is already leaking, but that is not enough is it?” Daniel asked. He could not help but stare at her as she talked, He never knew she was this smart. Anya’s plan was very believable. If they moved recklessly now. It would be seen that they were trying to cover up their crime.

Their family was in the weapons industry. They got a lot of contracts from the government. If they came under suspicion to the point of being unable to clear their name, their would take a hit, even if they are capable of staying out of prison.

Anya looked up at him, a curious glint in her eyes. “I’ve been thinking, Daniel. If the government is already suspicious of us, there must be more to it than just a few planted pieces. of evidence.”
Daniel nodded, his mind racing as he considered her words. His heart was racing from excitement. Thinking with her was exhilarating. It reminded him of Selene in her childhood. Selene had the most clever mind while growing up, but she was no longer that way as an adult. Sometimes he misses those days.
“You’re right. They have been watching us for quite some time, moving money is not enough, they would also need a motive and prove that we are communicating with the terrorists,” Daniel said.
Anya leaned forward, her hands gripping the edge of the chair as she continued. “Do you think there’s anything we’ve done that could solidify us as communicating with them? Anything that could make the account believable that we’re working with terrorists?”
Daniel frowned, racking his brain for any projects or activities that could have raised suspicion. Suddenly, his eyes widened as a thought occurred to him.
“The Jet project,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Anya’s eyes
widened in understanding as she realized what he was referring to. She may not have too much understanding about his work, but she was not completely naive. They had been working on a top– secret project for months, one that was based on Middle Eastern technology. It was the document she had seen. They had kept it under wraps, unsure if it was even possible to pull off. Her Father– in–law, Micheal Shaw had claimed that if they were capable of building it, they would be revolutionizing the building of Airplane engines. She had seen the minutes of shareholders meeting when she was reading through Daniel’s documents.
“The project,” Anya repeated, her voice filled with urgency. “That is what Lena would use to solidify my guilt. She came around the house so many times, maybe to release documents from there. I
have never told anyone what project it is, since I was not supposed to say anything. Please, believe me,” she realized and pleaded.
Daniel nodded grimly. “I believe you. It’s the only thing that makes sense. We’ve kept it so secretive, even from our own families. I had left out some documents to find out who was leaking documents and you had walked into the trap. It seems someone else did too. Lena. If she found out about it…”
Anya’s heart raced as she considered the implications of their discovery. If the government believed that they could not be trusted, it could spell disaster for them and for the Shaw family’s reputation.

“This is harder than we thought,” Anya said, her voice slightly revealing her stress. “Even though I have poked holes, if we cannot convince people of this, it would not matter.”
Daniel nodded in agreement, his mind already spinning with possible solutions. “I will deal with it,”
Anya could no longer sit still as she got up and paced back and forth in the cabin, her mind. racing with worry. Daniel watched her, concern etched on his face.
“Anya, relax?” he finally asked, breaking the tense silence, he felt that he needed to distract her, “Is there anything else we have not done yet?” he asked.
Anya stopped her pacing and turned to face him, her expression grave. “Daniel, we need to get rid of the gift my family gave us.”
Daniel’s brow came together at her words. “I have always wanted to know what is in the box,” he said and she froze. It seems Daniel and his family never opened it. She smiled bitterly.
Anya took a deep breath, trying to calm her slight fluster at his question. “It is probably an heirloom. Now, they are probably gifts from the terrorists in the Middle East. If I am right, it will be found on
the ship during our party tonight.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed at her evasive statement. “What are you going to do with your mother’s gift? Is it still there?”
She and Daniel finally opened the box. As they guessed, there was a lot of incriminating evidence. Even if they could burn the papers, the engine models could not be burnt and they were engraved too, so they could not add it to the models they had at home.
At the bottom of the box was Stella’s gift. Even Anya did not know what her mother had put in. When she saw a broken tree branch, her eyes lit up.
She took out the branch with a smile. Daniel spotted a letter at the bottom and took.. ut. While Anya was admiring the branch, he saw the letter was addressed to him and put it in his pocket before she could see it.
