Stubborn
Sofie’s POV
“What do you think you are doing right now, Sofie?” Amy hollered, as she stormed into my room.
I sighed, as I calmly retrieved a suitcase from my wardrobe and placed it on the bed.
“What do you want, Amy? As you can see, I am organizing my clothes. I told you yesterday that I was leaving America, didn’t I?” I scoffed.
I had decided to stick to my initial plans to move away from America when the contract engagement ended.
I wanted to live my life away from Roman.
It had been a week since I met him at the restaurant, to hand him the contract termination letter.
The daily basket of luxurious gifts had also stopped since last week.
Initially, I had thought I’d feel an immense sense of relief when they stopped but I couldn’t help but feel a bit saddened.
Roman had looked so defiant when I told him I wanted out, but for the past couple of days, I hadn’t even received a text from him.
Maybe he had gotten fed up with my antics, and ending things with me made him realize that he didn’t need me after all.
He probably hated me now but it was good that way.
He had been in so much grave danger because he was in love with me.
So making him hate me by not giving him a logical reason as to why I was leaving his life was the best plan.
He’d probably find a new woman within a year, and he’s forget about the poor woman who harbored so much bad luck that nearly killed him.
“Why didn’t you tell me Roman was here the other day?” She spat, looking me in the eyes.
I sighed regretfully, as I began folding my clothes into my suitcase.
“Can’t you talk anymore? Why the hell are you doing this?” She hurled, which infuriated me.
I flung my half folded pile of clothes on the bed, and glared at her.
“Why are you so obsessed with my life? I will do whatever the fuck I want. You don’t have to bother yourself with what doesn’t concern you, do you understand me?” I retorted.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
I watched with a heavy heart as hurt crossed her eyes for a brief moment.
“Okay. Let’s be logical and calm about this. Sofie, what is wrong? Why are you doing this to yourself? Why are you doing this to Roman and your unborn child?” She asked, in a calmer tone.
“I’m doing this because this is what I want to do. This is how I want to live my life. Roman and I will never fit in each other’s world, so there’s no use pushing it. My mind is made up.” I replied, avoiding her fixated gaze on me.
“You and I know that everything that just came out of your mouth right now, is nothing but a big, fat lie. Do you think I’m stupid or what? So you want to tell me that you spent so many sleepless nights, taking care of Roman while he was in a coma just to push him away, now that he’s hale and hearty. Are you even listening to yourself?” Amy’s calm composure had been thrown out of the window again.
“Amy, please. Stop interfering with my life. Kindly focus on your relationship with Damien. I don’t need to explain anything to you. If you don’t want to believe me, then that’s good for you.” I retorted, as I zipped the suitcase close, after placing the last of my folded clothes inside it.
“So everything you said about wanting your child to grow up in a complete, and loving family was nothing but a lie, huh? Do you want them to grow up and hate you for unlawfully keeping them away from their father? Come back to your senses, Sofie! This is wrong, so fucking wrong!” She fumed, pacing the room.
“Like I said earlier, mind your business, Amy. If you can’t support my decision, then leave me the fuck alone!” I shouted.
She sighed, and nodded. “I’m sorry for being nosy. You’re right. It’s your life, and I should leave you to follow your heart. But don’t you dare come back to cry in my arms when you get the consequences of your stupid actions.”
After casting me a final glare, she left my room and shut the door with a violent slam.
I plopped on the bed, as tears welled up in my eyes.
Maybe this plan of mine wasn’t so good after all.
What the hell is wrong with you, Sofie? A voice within me yelled, as uncontrollable tears rolled down my cheeks.
I had chosen to do this, and it was too late to back down.
I had already booked a flight to London, which was scheduled to take off by tomorrow morning.
At that moment, it was too late to have a rethink about my decision.
But what about Roman’s grandmother? What would the poor, old woman think of you? Another voice inside my head asked.
I heaved a deep sigh as I retracted the small velvet box Roman had given me at the beginning of our contract, from the nightstand drawer.
My tears freely flowed like a broken dam, as I took out the diamond ring enclosed inside it.
Was I really doing that right thing by running away from my problems? I thought, as I put the ring back into the box.
I instantly banished the thought out of my mind, just as it sneaked in.
It was too late to have second thoughts.
A knock came on the door, as I placed the box back into the drawer.
“Come in.” I croaked, wiping off my tears.
Amy walked in, with red, swollen eyes. I could tell that she must have also been crying like me.
“Let’s watch some movies at least, before you leave. Maybe then, I’d try to understand the reason behind this stupid decision of yours.” She muttered.
I nodded. “Okay. I will join you in a bit.”
“I have already ordered a box of your favorite pineapple pizza. It should get here soon.” She said, before leaving my room.
I just shook my head as tears blurred my vision once more.
I could only hope I would never come to regret my decision to leave Roman’s life, in the future.
