The Road to Rebirth Her Fresh Start and His Late Sorrow

Chapter 42

Listening to the high decibels and astonishment through the phone, Nancy couldn't help but chuckle, "Sweetheart, calm down."

Lena was her name abroad. She had established her studio before meeting Cyrus. Winnie was the designer and Nancy's friend overseas.

Luckily, she hadn't told Cyrus about it. Otherwise, her move to Ardenweald wouldn't have been peaceful. "But I can't calm down! Why didn't you tell me to pick you up at the airport? You just showed up out of the blue!"

"It was a last-minute decision," Nancy replied with a smile.

Winnie huffed in annoyance, "That's just so like you. But the idea of you actually coming into work is exciting! Wow, the big boss of Lena's Studio is here." Winnie grew more excited. "Boss, thinking about how young you got hitched and shied away from the limelight. It's such a waste! If I had your talent, I'd be the world's leading designer."

Mentioning getting hitched young, Nancy lowered her gaze and laughed mockingly, "So, I've decided to focus on my career and not on love."

Winnie froze. "Lena, are you saying you got a divorce?"

"Yes, I got divorced. My husband let me down," Nancy had come to terms with it.

Winnie cursed under her breath, "Boss, no man in this world deserves you! Welcome back to focusing on your career."

"Right, see you at the office tomorrow." Nancy looked out the car window at the villas before ending the call.

After paying the driver, she got out and grabbed her luggage.

Her marriage to Cyrus was meant to be for life, but he walked out halfway through. It was fortunate she hadn't shared much about Cyrus with her colleagues at the studio.

Though there had been photos of her and Cyrus back home, everyone was too busy, and the headlines abroad didn't match those at home. No one knew she was married to Cyrus.

Nancy stopped before her villa, about to unlock the door, when she heard rushed footsteps.

Nancy sensed danger as a large hand reached from behind her, gripping her neck tightly. Meanwhile, she felt something pressed against her temple.

"Don't scream, or I'll blow your brains out!"

Nancy's pupils dilated, especially her neck got constricted, making breathing difficult. She faced a tall, blood-covered man with obscured features.

He was taller than Cyrus. His green eyes were fierce, carrying a threat. This man was not to be trifled with!

"Don't shoot..." Nancy struggled to lift her hand, grabbing the man's wrist.

Judson Buchanan narrowed his eyes dangerously, pushing forward and pinning Nancy against the cold door, his hot body pressing against her back.

Nancy's nose was suddenly full of the guy's smell, a weird combo of blood, some intense hormones, and

a touch of sandalwood. She had never been this close to any man other than Cyrus, and her body instinctively tried to wiggle free.

The next second, Judson harshly commanded, "Did I allow you to move?"

With that, the gun pressed closer to Nancy's temple.

Nancy's heart raced uncontrollably, barely giving her a moment to calm down.

Footsteps approached rapidly.

"I saw the suspect heading toward this upscale neighborhood! Search every corner. Don't let him get away!"

"If you find him, kill on sight. And if any bystanders see anything, take them out, too!"

A chorus of agreement followed.

With her acute hearing, Nancy caught every word, her heart pounding even faster.noveldrama

"Open the door, or we both die!" Judson's stern voice cut through the tension.
