Chapter 170
Emmett’s was looking a bit off color and Clara wanted to say something to comfort him, but Emmett gave her a look that told her to keep it quiet.
Sophia figured out her son wanted to have a private chat with her, so she turned to Aiden and Alex and said, “Alrighty, you guys go do your homework and Granny will make dinner for you later.”
Aiden sensed something was up, so he just nodded quietly.
Alex just straight up asked, “What’s Granny and Dad gonna talk about?”
Aiden pulled him back, “Zip it, it’s none of our business. Come on, I’ll help you with your homework.”
Alex tried to say more, but Aiden cut him off, “No more questions.”
In the study. Sophia walked in and plonked herself on the couch.
She looked totally chill, not worried in the slightest about her son’s upcoming interrogation.
Emmett frowned, saying to his mother, “Tell me, why did you pull this stunt?”
Sophia looked puzzled, “What are you talking about?”
Emmett asked, “Why did you say that stuff to Clara?”
Sophia shrugged, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. What did I say to her?”
Emmett pressed on, “Did Clara do something bad to the kids? Did you see it with your own eyes?”
Sophia got up and walked over to her son, “I was just giving her a heads–up to be good to the kids. I can’t gamble with my grandkids getting hurt. I just wanted Clara to understand that this is the Melendez
Group’s home, and it’s my grandkids‘ home” Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Emmett clenched his fist, “Mom, aren’t you afraid that Clara and I will have misunderstandings because of this?”
“This is the Melendez family!” Sophia reiterated.
Emmett took a step back, eyeing his mother seriously. “Why has it come to this? You’ve always wanted me to find a good partner, and now that I have. this is how you treat her? Haven’t you considered the predicament you’re putting me in?”
“Of course I’ve considered your situation. But you’re an adult now, you can protect yourself. My grandkids are still young and naive. If Clara really treats them badly, they might not be able to express it. What I did, was just to make Clara understand their place in our family.”
“There’s absolutely no need for this!”
“I absolutely feel there is!” Sophia stood her ground, “She’s their stepmother after all! No matter how great you think she is, she’s not their biological mother! Yes, I agreed to Clara joining our family, and I hope you and Clara will be happy together, but that doesn’t stop me from protecting my grandkids! If Clara doesn’t have any intention to mistreat them, then she can simply ignore what I said!”
