Chapter 27 A Vague Smile
Chapter 27 A Vague Smile
A sturdy plum tree bark could be seen outside the window from the angle at which Liam and Amber
were standing. It was the coldest time of winter. Pale yellow flowers which seemed to be tightly knitted
together obscured the view from the window.
They were standing extremely close to each other—close enough for them to hear each other's
breathing. At that moment, the world seemed to fade away as time stopped ticking. It was as if they
were the only ones in the world.
Liam gently leaned forward with his head slightly lowered. From behind, it would seem as if he was
going in for a kiss. His eyes were as deep as the ocean, but Amber dared not stare into them. This
situation was simply too weird for Amber. She could not handle the pressure from this flirtatious
situation.
Panicking, she raised her arm and hurriedly wiped at the mark on his neck with her sleeve. She was
blushing madly as she said, “There, I’m done. You should go have your meal. I’ll be taking my leave.”
The lipstick mark was gone so she no longer had a reason to enjoy a meal on them. The manager had
acted oddly suspicious just now, and everything that happened today was somehow extremely fishy.
What were the chances for Liam to coincidentally enter the resting room she was in? Moreover, what
were the chances for a blackout to happen at that very moment? City A was a modernized city known
internationally, not some rural village!

continued forward.
“Hey! I said I don’t want to! What are you doing? Let go of me!” The bashfulness that she had just a
while ago was entirely blown away by Liam’s arrogant act. Fury was all that was left.
Just who did he think he was to authoritatively order her around and restrict her movements?
As she was squabbling away, they had rounded the corner of the hallway, with both Lily and the
manager in clear view.
"That's enough. I still have to make an announcement that concerns you later," Liam responded in an
indifferent and light tone to Amber's defiance as if he was coaxing a child.
Amber was still struggling to free herself from Liam’s hold when Lily and the manager turned to see
what the commotion was about. When they grasped the situation, they exchanged silent yet meaningful
glances as if they knew that there was definitely something going on between the duo.
Amber was filled with frustration. She felt so embarrassed!
“Do you need me to drag you all the way there?” Liam remained calm despite the stares from Lily and
the manager. There was not the slightest hint of wavering in his voice.
Amber shrugged him off forcefully and followed from behind with much reluctance while repeatedly
cursing him in her head.
The manager and Lily must have misunderstood her terribly by now! Did they think she was a female
student whose greed for wealth was sufficient to drive her to sell her body? Or someone from the
entertainment industry who engaged in dirty business and was looking to marry a wealthy guy?
The dining hall was extravagantly decorated. A crowd of people was already gathered at the main
entrance of the hall. As soon as they saw Liam coming their way, it was all ingratiating smiles and
respectful bows.
Amber followed Liam closely as they made their way in. Judging from their outfits, they all seemed to
be people from elite backgrounds. Amber could not help but steal a glance at Liam.
“Huh? That’s weird.” She frowned in confusion. Liam, who normally always had a poker face on, had
now, a vague smile on his face!
He was already good-looking, but even more so when he smiled. His features were all the more
stunning, to the point where one would be unable to look him in the eye.
Amber’s heart thumped loudly as her heart palpitated. She immediately averted her eyes. It was
undeniable that she was indeed astounded by his gorgeous looks. If Liam was a woman instead, he
would undoubtedly ruin a whole country with his looks alone.
The subsidiary company’s workers were astonished as well! This was not the first time Liam had come
to monitor this subsidiary company, but they swore that this was the first time they had seen him smile!
What exactly happened? Could it be that Liam had received great news a while ago? News that their
rival company had gone bankrupt?
Everyone was busy guessing the cause of this unusual phenomenon, completely neglecting the
insignificant girl who stood beside Liam with her head lowered.
