Chapter 194 Asserting Dominance
Freya replied, “I met a woman today when I accompanied Zane to the hearing… Well, it wasn’t really a big deal.”
There were some similarities in their appearances. However, considering that Elijah had been so busy these days, Freya thought it would be better not to trouble him.
“Why are you speaking in fragments?” Elijah frowned.
Freya smiled, “Just some trivial matters. Tomorrow, the arrangements for Yolanda Steele’s affairs will be completed, and we can temporarily put this matter aside.”
Just as she finished speaking, someone knocked on the door.
Freya said, “Come in” before the door was pushed open.
It was Xander. He was carrying a box filled with messy documents and miscellaneous items. He walked in and placed the things on the table before saying, “They chose Thorne Silverton as the CEO.”© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Elijah wasn’t surprised by this answer. He simply nodded, indicating that he was aware. All of this was Elijah’s plan. Only when he left the company would Arwen Silverton let her guard down.
“At the meeting, those shareholders who only care about their own interests really infuriated me. Over the years, how much profit have we created for them? Yet, they turned against us one by one.” Xander felt a sense of injustice. Although he knew it was part of the plan, seeing those people being so heartless still made him uncomfortable.
“But it’s for the best. If they had shown sympathy, it would have disrupted our plan. Now, I can only hope for the day when Headence Group goes bankrupt.” Xander said with resentment.
The loss documents that Elijah had passed to Arwen Silverton through Elara Montague were indeed genuine. But Arwen were unaware that all the money from that loss had been transferred to a company called Skyline Co. in Country F.
Headence Group was now nothing more than a hollow shell. There were hardly any profitable projects left, and all the money-making businesses had long been moved overseas.
Not to mention, even if Thorne Silverton had the capability, it would be impossible for him to quickly improve Headence Group’s operations. What would he have to show the shareholders during the mid-year review and year-end summary? Those shareholders were ruthless and only cared about their own interests. They didn’t care about how difficult things were for others.
“But when I think about it, we won’t be restricted in what we want to do in the future. I feel relieved.” Xander brightened up when he thought about this aspect.
Although Headence Group was a big and wealthy family business, any project exceeding billions of dollars needed approval from the board of directors. If it didn’t pass, the project couldn’t proceed. Now, their company only had Elijah making the decisions. He had the power to decide everything. It was much freer compared to being at Headence Group. He began to appreciate the ruthlessness of those shareholders. If they had supported Elijah, they would have owed them favors, and things wouldn’t have been so clean and straightforward.
“It’s fine, you can go back for now. They might ask for a handover, so you’ll be in charge then.” Elijah said.
Xander replied, “Alright. By the way, I asked the secretary to continue working at the Country F company, but she doesn’t want to leave the country and insists on seeing you. What should we do? Will you meet her?”
Freya perked up when she heard about the secretary. Perhaps women were sensitive by nature.
Or maybe women just understood each other. She knew the secretary had feelings for Elijah, no doubt about it.
“Elijah went out today and his wound got infected. It’s not suitable for him to go out,” Freya deliberately said.
Although her selfish side didn’t want Elijah to meet the secretary, what she said was also true. If Elijahe stayed without clothes on, the wound would scab over in a few days. If he didn’t take care of it properly, it could take another half a month to heal.
Xander was in a dilemma. “She doesn’t listen to me, what should we do?”
Freya suggested, “How about I go and talk to her for you?”
Elijah turned to look at her, as if he could see right through her thoughts. Freya didn’t dare to meet his gaze and intentionally looked away.
“If you want to go, then go,” Elijah turned his face to the side, burying most of it in the pillow.
Xander seemed to understand and couldn’t help but smirk. In his heart, he thought, “It’s true that there’s always a bigger fish. Mr Silverton too can be controlled, and tightly at that!”
Freya focused on giving Elijah his medication. “Rest well.”
Elijah grabbed her hand and squeezed it in his palm. “Go and come back early, have Xander accompany you.”
Freya nodded. She walked out of the ward, and Xander was waiting for her at the door.
“Let’s go,” she said.
Xander quickly followed, holding the car keys in his hand. He wanted to say something a few times but hesitated.
Unable to handle his stammering, Freya said, “Just say whatever you want.”
“Well, it’s nothing, I just wanted to say that maybe you’re overthinking it. Dina and I, we’ve both received Mr Silverton’s favor, so we’re both loyal to him…” Xander trailed off.
“How do you know I’m overthinking?” Freya interrupted and asked.
Xander couldn’t come up with an answer, so he just kept quiet.
They got into the car, and as they started driving, neither of them spoke.
They arrived at the place where Dina lived quickly. Xander approached the door and knocked, and Dina opened it. When she saw Xander, her face couldn’t help but darken. “I told you, I’m not going abroad. I’m just a secretary. Mr Silverton didn’t go, why should I go…”
She stopped halfway through her sentence when she saw Freya behind Xander. In her eyes, a glimmer of caution appeared. “… Why are you here?”
Xander spoke up for Freya, saying, “She came here to persuade you.”
“Persuade me about what?” The secretary’s gaze had a hint of evasion.
“To persuade you to go abroad,” Freya walked in and told Xander, “Wait for me outside, I’ll talk to her.”
Dina resisted a bit, saying, “If you have something to say, let Xander tell me. Why bother coming here yourself?”
“You are under Elijah’s command, and now that he can’t come, as his wife, it’s my duty to step in and persuade you. So, do you not welcome me?” Freya’s words were full of authority, taking the upper hand, establishing her dominance.
Dina couldn’t continue to refuse. She glanced up at Freya and stepped aside, saying, “Please come in.”
Freya walked into the house, taking a quick look around.
The location of this house, the decoration, and the size were not something an ordinary person could afford. It seemed that Elijah treated her well. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so wealthy.
Dina seemed to have caught onto Freya’s thoughts and said, “Mr Silverton treats all his subordinates well.”
Freya nodded knowingly. Dina went to pour her a glass of water.
“Please have some tea.”
Freya felt a bit uncomfortable being here. She sat on the sofa, gave a slight smile, and said, “Thank you.”
Dina lowered her gaze and dared not look directly at Freya.
“I won’t go abroad, and I have my reason.” Dina began.
“What’s that?” Freya asked as she picked up the teacup and took a sip.
Dina was a shrewd person, however, Freya’s radiance completely overshadowed her at this moment. It was as if she couldn’t handle being in her presence. Not only did Freya surpass her in appearance, but also in temperament. Freya’s calm and composed aura made people want to get closer to her, yet also hesitate to approach due to her coolness.
“I am a secretary. Do you know what a secretary’s job entails?” Dina lifted her head and looked at Freya. She wanted to defeat Freya by showcasing her professional competence.
