Chapter 41 ‘My Husband’
Elijah might have choked Freya to death if not for her injuries.
Would she endure such humiliation after marrying him?
Freya Stone pretended not to hear, but her trembling eyelashes betrayed her wakefulness. Elijah closed his eyes, suppressing his anger. After calming himself, he sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to touch her face.
Freya turned away.
“You’re done pretending?” Elijah chuckled.
“What am I pretending? I just woke up.” She intentionally stretched, lazily asking, “What brings you here?”
“You’re my wife, I have to check on you.” He maintained a smiling face.
“Is Linda taking good care of you lately?”
Freya nodded. Linda was genuinely attentive to her needs, contributing to her quick recovery.
“When are you getting discharged?” he inquired.
Freya preferred staying at the hospital rather than returning to the villa to live under the same roof with him. “Not anytime soon.”
Elijah saw through her evasion. “Freya Stone, do you think you can avoid this?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Fine, rest and recover.” Elijah stood up.
Freya picked up water from the table, taking casual sips, showing an expression of relief at his departure. Seeing her like this, Elijah fumed internally. Unfortunately, her injuries prevented him from taking any drastic actions. Gritting his teeth, he warned, “Freya Stone, no matter how you provoke me, I will make you pay twice as much sooner or later.”
Unfazed, Freya dismissed his threat.
Once Elijah left, Liora Valentine, hiding in the corner, revealed herself. She had taken a few days off to process the events and initially believed Elijah had changed his mind. However, upon seeing him visit the hospital, she followed him, only to discover he came to see Freya Stone. Her fists clenched tight.
Elijah thought it was her that night. Why was he still with Freya Stone? Why did Freya Stone occupy the position of Mrs Silverton?
She desperately wanted what Freya effortlessly obtained.
Was it only when Elijah witnesses Freya with another guy that he would despise her, leading to their divorce?
That way, would she have another chance?
Having manipulated Freya Stone into successfully performing the amniocentesis last time, Liora Valentine was determined to succeed again, making Elijah resent Freya.
Now that they were open enemies, her previous tactics were ineffective. She needed a new plan.
She entered Freya’s ward. In a haughty manner, she threatened, “Freya Stone, you’re just an intern; if you take leave like this, believe me, I’ll have you expelled by the director.”
Freya looked at her as if she was looking at a fool.
“Don’t you know I’ve already quit working at the hospital?” She had resigned from the internship, anticipating her departure.
Liora Valentine was not informed about this change. Frustrated, she said, “Don’t you want to be a doctor?”
Freya looked at her, suppressing her anger, and replied coldly, “Even if I don’t work, my husband will take care of me. You already know who my husband is, don’t you?”
She knew Liora Valentine cared about Elijah, so she deliberately provoked her. Her words had the desired effect. Liora’s suppressed anger erupted, and she lunged at Freya’s neck, threatening to strangle her. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
“You took my place, so go die. If you die, Elijah will be mine.” Said Liora.
Freya, not interested in a physical altercation, couldn’t afford it with her current condition.
“Liora Valentine, do you think Elijah would like you if he saw you behaving like this? Men prefer gentle women, no man would like a shrew.” Her words hit the mark, as Liora cared about her image in Elijah’s eyes.
Linda happened to enter the room, witnessed Liora attacking Freya, intervened, and scolded, “Do you know who she is? How dare you treat her so disrespectfully? If you don’t stop, I’ll tell Mr Silverton, and you won’t have an easy time!”
Liora, seeing the defender Linda, changed her attitude. If not for Freya Stone, she would have been the one defended by Elijah’s servant. All the glory that should have belonged to her was taken away by Freya Stone.
“Freya Stone, I won’t let you off!” Liora issued another threat and left.
Freya’s expression remained indifferent. Had Liora not manipulated the amniocentesis, her child might have been as resilient and brave as the other child, not succumbing to external pressure. The miscarriage resulted from the earlier amniocentesis damaging the fetus.
“We’re even.” Freya would not let her off either.
After Liora left, Linda checked on her. “Madam, did you get hurt?”
Freya shook her head. “No.”
Angrily, Linda said, “What kind of woman is she? So uncultured! I’ll call Mr Silverton…”
“Don’t tell Elijah,” Freya stopped her.
Liora’s angry reactions should be equal to Freya’s. Freya had been thinking that Liora had also had a miscarriage. Somehow, Freya thanked Zane Stone for allowing Elijah and Liora to taste the pain of losing a child, just like she did.
“Madam, why shouldn’t I call Mr Silverton?” Linda couldn’t understand.
She didn’t know about Elijah and Freya’s relationship, but she did know that Liora was acting recklessly due to her recent loss. Elijah would surely understand.
What was the use of telling Elijah?
“Linda, don’t let her touch the food you gave me.” Freya said.
Linda nodded, “Okay.”
..
Three more days passed in the hospital. Freya was always on edge, fearing Liora might cause trouble at night. She decided to leave the hospital. After more than ten days of rest, her body had recovered sufficiently.
When Orion Russo visited her in the evening, she informed him of her plan to be discharged.
“Tomorrow morning, I’ll help you with the discharge procedures.” Orion said.
Freya nodded.
Orion wanted to ask what she planned to do if Elijah refused a divorce, but he changed his question. “You resigned from your job. What are your plans for the future?”
Freya lowered her eyes. “I haven’t decided.”
Orion looked at her, noticing she had something to say but chose not to. He didn’t press her.
“I’ll leave now.”
He stood up.
Elijah entered at that moment.
Seeing Orion, he asked, “She can’t be discharged yet?”
Orion glanced at Freya and replied, “She can. Freya is preparing to leave the hospital tomorrow.”
Elijah furrowed his brows, feeling so uncomfortable with the way Orion called Freya’s name somehow.
Orion, unaware of why Elijah’s gaze turned cold, wondered if he had said something wrong.
“I’ll leave first.” To avoid causing any trouble with Elijah, Orion decided to leave.
Elijah sat on the sofa and imperiously ordered, “I’m thirsty, pour me a glass of water.”
His tone was irritatingly commanding.
Freya had no choice but to obey.
He took the glass, drank a few sips, and smirked, “Freya Stone, do you know?”
“What?”
