Chapter 132
Amelia's heart seethed with resentment.
Why did the Fitzgerald family get to walk all over her now?
If her parents hadn't died in that accident, the Fitzgeralds and Janice would have been beneath her, looking up at her with envy. But now, she was forced to rely on Simon just to have a roof over her and Adam's heads in Greenfield City.
She refused to return to that small, suffocating town.
Tears filled her eyes as she softened her tone. "Simon, I know I have HIV, but it's not my fault! I'm a victim too -I was exposed to it. Fortunately, I found out early, so I can still manage it. It won't change anything!"
"Stay the hell away from my son! Tomorrow, I'm telling everyone that you and Simon have nothing to do with each other. You manipulated him completely!"
With that, Helena pulled Sarah inside, ready to tend to the bruise Adam had left on her cheek.
Simon remained on the steps, his gaze cold and unforgiving. "Amelia, you have one week to pay back every cent I spent on you. If you don't, I'll see you in court."
The door slammed shut, the impact trembling through the ground.
Amelia stood motionless, staring at the closed door. "Simon, a man like you will never understand what it means to truly be loved," she murmured.
At that moment, she finally grasped how Janice must have felt all those years ago. But there was no sorrow in her heart-only a deep, unshakable disgust.
Simon was nothing more than a self-serving opportunist. As long as someone was useful, he'd keep them close. The moment they weren't, he'd toss them aside without a second thought.
"So, Amelia..." Adam asked, his voice breaking through the tension. "What do we do now?"
Amelia exhaled slowly. "First, we need to go to the hospital. Your forehead is still bleeding."
Adam got his wound treated at the hospital. Just as Amelia went to pay for the medication, she unexpectedly ran into Janice.
Janice was walking toward them, wearing a high-end coat worth tens of thousands. Her entire outfit was an immaculate white. Her long hair cascaded in soft curls, and her striking beauty drew everyone's gaze.
It was immediately clear-Janice was doing exceptionally well without Simon.
Janice barely spared them a glance, her expression showing no surprise at all at their sorry state.
She calmly handed Jacob's prescription to the pharmacy window.
Standing next to her, Amelia felt like a beggar in comparison, her
appearance a stark contrast to
Janice's poised elegance. The
difference was almost too mul
bear and she wanted to leave.
"Aren't you going to pay for the medicine?" The receptionist's voice snapped her back to reality.
Medicine.
Money.
Amelia didn't even bother pulling out her phone. After paying for Adam's treatment, she didn't have enough money.
Amelia and Adam stood there, unsure of what to do next.
The people behind them began to grow restless.
"Hurry up! There are people waiting!" someone muttered impatiently.
Amelia's face flushed with embarrassment. Without warning, two crisp hundred-dollar bills were placed on the counter.
Janice had slipped them there before turning to leave.
Amelia quickly snatched up the money and dashed after her.
"Stop right there!" she called out.
Janice glanced back over her shoulder, her gaze cold and detached.
At the hospital's main entrance, snowflakes fell steadily, the storm intensifying with every passing moment. Janice's figure was bathed in soft light as the snow swirled around her, making her seem almost otherworldly in her beauty
Amelia's eyes flickered between Janice's flawless appearance and the two hundred-dollar bills in her hand, a surge of emotion breaking through her composed facade You pity me, don't you?" she asked. noveldrama
Janice nodded slowly. "Yes. I do."
