Chapter 135
Hearing Helena's and Sarah's words and remembering how deeply Janice had once loved him, Simon felt a flicker of doubt.
Sarah spoke up, breaking the silence. "I really wonder what Mr. Moore from Prosper Stitch Group thinks of Janice."
Simon scoffed, still unwilling to face the truth. "There's no way Edward actually cares about her. She's just a pretty face. A man like him needs a woman who can navigate social circles, not someone like her."
"Exactly, Simon!" Helena chimed in, her voice thick with arrogance. "Janice has no real background. She only got to where she is by using men. She should be grateful that we're even considering taking her back. There's no way she'll refuse you."
Simon fell into a long, heavy silence before finally muttering, "I'll figure out how to approach her."
"Good, good!" Helena exclaimed with a grin. "Make sure you get everything you can from her—every last cent. And while you're at it, have her void the mortgage contract on this villa."noveldrama
That way, they wouldn't have to pay her back a dime.
Helena was certain the plan would work. Janice had loved Simon so blindly in the past, and now that he was willing to reconcile, what reason could she possibly have to say no?
With no place else to turn, Amelia and Adam moved into Arthur's home the following day.
Arthur wasn't oblivious-he could tell something had gone wrong between Amelia and Simon. However, he assumed it was due to the help she had given him, which had sparked an argument.
Feeling responsible, Arthur and his wife went out of their way to look after the Burnett siblings, even instructing the household staff to treat them with extra care.
That said, Arthur's family wasn't wealthy. They had been struggling to make a life in Greenfield City, and their home was modest at best.
That morning, Amelia and Adam were having breakfast in the dining area.
In the living room, Elsie observed Amelia's weary, disheveled state with a sense of disdain. It was clear now that Amelia had been kicked out by Simon.
After all, she was nothing more than an aging woman with no particular skills. What made her think she could hold onto a man like Simon?
Meanwhile, Elsie took pride in her youth and beauty, and her family was also well-established in the crochet business.
Janice had failed, and now, Amelia seemed to be on her way out.
But what about her?
Perhaps it was her turn to be Mrs. Fitzgerald-the one destined for wealth and luxury.
With that thought, Elsie began plotting how she could replace Amelia and worm her way into Simon's life.
In the dining area, Adam spoke up. "I found the contact information for the person you wanted."
Still eating her cereal, Amelia narrowed her eyes. She had asked Adam to find out the phone number of Edward's father.
The Moore family was
well-established in politics, so there
was no way someone of Robert's stature would approve of Janice, a
woman with no connections and a tarnished reputation.
Amelia was determined to crush Janice's dream of becoming Edward's wife. This was her chance for revenge, for everything Janice had taken from her.
"Give me the number."
With the number finally in her hand,
Amelia took her time, having
decided to wait until noon to make
the call. However, there was no answer. Unfazed, she planned to try again in the evening.
At noon, Janice was in her office, reviewing crochet designs for the upcoming year.
Suddenly, her phone rang-it was Edward.
With the vice director sitting next to her, she kept her tone casual. "Hey, babe."
Edward immediately sensed that she wasn't alone. "I just got back to the country, but I need to stop by home first."
Why was he sharing his whereabouts?
Janice couldn't help but smile. "Alright. Just let me know when you're heading back to Greenfield City. With New Year's coming up, I'll cook something special for you to try
"Sounds perfect."
After hanging up, the vice director, Sunny, couldn't help but laugh. "Ms. Smith, I didn't expect Mr. Moore to be
so considerate."
Even without hearing the full conversation, it was clear that Edward had been checking in with her.
A little flustered, Janice twirled her pen between her fingers. "He's fine, I suppose."
At the Moore residence in Lakeshore City, the family had gathered. All the siblings were home, and Barbara had even taken a break from work to join them.
What do you think?
