Chapter 14
Simon, who was still at the office, was being fussed over by Amelia.
Simon, it's raining outside. You're working too hard. Why don't you leave early? I made some soup for you.”
Amella was trying to act like a caring wife, thinking Simon liked that kind of woman. Little did she know, Simon preferred someone with an independent personality like Janice. Both Amelia and Janice had misjudged his preferences.
“Soup?” Simon asked, his tone skeptical, "Aren't you feeling unwell lately and low on energy? Why are you making soup?”
Amelia froze for a moment. "L. I've been feeling fine lately. Plus, I just wanted to spend some time with you. After all, I don't know
when I will...”
“Alright, enough." Simon patted her shoulder. "You should head back I'm going out for a bit.”
"It's still raining, Where are you going?" Amelia asked, now feeling more confident that she was Simon's significant other.
Simon turned back for a second. "Why do you need to know where I'm going?"
Amelia's eyelashes fluttered. "Are you going to meet Janice? It's getting late. I'm worried about you, Simon. Wouldn't it be better to go tomorrow when the rain stops?"
She wanted to stop Simon from getting close to Janice again.
"Ask the company car driver to take you back,” Simon said without looking back
Amelia gritted her teeth as she looked at the photo of Simon and Janice on the desk. She picked it up and threw it to the floor.
Simon's secretary, Alex Dunford, came by with some documents and saw what she did, but he didn't dare to go in and pretended not to notice. He wondered who the woman was.
While she was not unattractive, she couldn't compare to Janice, and her angry expression was terrifying. Someone said she had cancer, but she didn't seem like a sick person at all.
After driving away from the office, Simon tracked down where Jacob was hospitalized and went straight there.
Upon discovering he was there, Janice quickly stepped outside to keep Jacob from finding out about the situation.
"What are you doing?" Janice stood outside the hospital, not getting into the car.
Simon rolled down the window. This time, he seemed surprisingly calm. “Get in for row.”
Janice knew he wouldn't give up until he got what he wanted, so she had no choice but to get in the car.
Music played in the car, music she had once downloaded for him. There were many memories she shouldn't recall as they would only bring both heartache and a headache.
"You said something about settling the score?" Simon lit a cigarette. "What score?"
Janice laughed instantly. She couldn't expect anything from him anymore.
He was just a power-hungry fool. Was he that afraid that she would take away what he had, so much so that he just had to come to ask?
"I'm talking about taking back everything that belongs to me."
"What's yours? The company is registered under my name. What do you have?" Simon's voice was steady, but his gaze was filled with disdain and mockery that seemed like he wanted to tear Janice apart.
Every word he said reminded her of how foolish, degraded, and deserving of being deceived she was. Janice suppressed all her sadness and kept her face neutral. “You'll know soon enough. Talking like this is pointless. Right now, you're probably feeling proud-proud that we used your card for everything and that you're the legal representative of the company so that you can kick me out now."
With a smile, she then asked, "Are you happy, Simon?"
Simon laughed mockingly, not feeling guilty at all. “So, what you're saying is that I'm the land of person who kicks down the ladder once they reach the topnoveldrama
Not wanting to stay in the car any longer, Janice opened the door and got out despite the rain. There was a convenience store by the road. She wanted to stop by to buy a few bottles of water to cool down, not caring about getting soaked.
Once outside, she knocked on the passenger window.
Simon smiled, thinking Janice started having regrets. The moment he rolled down the window, rainwater poured inside. His eyes stayed on her, waiting for an apology for offending him.
Yet, Janice didn't even bend down. Instead, she turned her head slightly and looked at Simon. "I never thought of you that way. However, if you really are the type of person who would do that"
She deliberately paused for a moment. “I'll make sure to be the one at the top."
Seconds later, Simon saw her pale lips moving. She added, barely audible, "I won't let you have the chance to climb that ladder."
Ina
Simon was far from being in a position to talk about being at the top. At best, he was someone who was struggling to reach the ladder, wearing what he thought was shiny and strong armor, but he was only fooling others with his act.
Didn't Amelia want to have him? Janice would love to see how this played out for her.
As Simon watched Janice walk away, his grip on the steering wheel tightened. For some reason, he felt uneasy,
Janice seemed to be serious this time. How dare she?
Simon slammed the gas pedal and drove away from the hospital.
Back at the villa, Helena asked him what had happened, prompting him to arrogantly complain, “Janice actually wants to settle scores with me! After all these years of eating my food, wearing the clothes I bought, and spending my money, she should be the one who
"That gold digger wants to take the Fitzgerald family's money after breaking up with you? As if we will let that happen!" Helena made sure to remember this.
The next day, once Jacob had his IV treatment, Janice went to Refined Threads Co, to pack her things and prepare some items. At that moment, Matilda's call came in. "Ms. Smith, would you like to have dinner tonight?"
“Sure. I'll make the reservation and send you the details later.
"Alright."
After ending the call, Matilda asked the man who was busy in the office, “Edward, how much money are you planning to offer Janice as her salary?"
"I'm offering her shares.
The slice of watermelon in Matilda's hand fell. "What? Shares?"
Employers from Melody & Loops Creations were already on their way to Greenfield City.
The news of Janice and Simon's fight had already spread, and the industry was buzzing with people targeting her, though the matter had not been mentioned in front of the main parties yet..
Janice's true abilities were well-known by not only Prosper Stitch Group but also Melody & Loops Creations, so they acted quickly.
“I recall Janice's hometown being near Melody & Loops Creations' headquarters. Do you think she might." Matilda wondered out loud. Edward slowly looked up. "Is this how you normally think when you consider your opponents?"
"Well... How else should I be thinking?"
It was no wonder why the company did not have any growth and was stuck in its position during the three to four years under her
management.
"What do you think Janice needs at the moment?"
Matilda blinked. "They must have fought because of finances."
"Why did Janice and Simon break up?" It was because of a woman, which meant that Janice had been betrayed
Therefore, humiliating Simon and hitting back was more enticing than something like being in her hometown
Janice was still unaware that the siblings of Prosper Stitch Group were already targeting her. When she came out of Refined Threads Co. with her things, she was stopped by a car.
“Ms. Smith, right? Sorry, we didn't want to meet you this way, but it's urgent, so we had to resort to this. I am Hugo Lawson, vice director of Melody & Loops Creations. Are you available for a meal and a chat?" Hugo was extremely polite, almost like he was talking to a VIP of his company.
Janice knew about Melody & Loops Creations, of course.
3.3
They were the only company that could rival Prosper Stitch Group in the industry, while Refined Threads Co.
was second.
Janice looked back at the Refined Threads Co. building she had helped build. Turning her head back, she smiled confidently. “Sure.”
The news of Janice getting into Melody & Loops Creations' company car spread in Greenfield City in just five minutes. Several large companies quickly took action.
The top seamstress had finally left Refined Threads Co. It was without a doubt that they had to rush to poach
her.
In an instant, all the prominent crochet companies in Greenfield City began sending out their PR teams, all of them targeting one person Janice. Among them, one black luxury car stood out. It was the car of the CEO of Prosper Stitch Group.
Simon, who had just arrived at the office, was furious when he got the news. "She's really involved with some rich old guy and became his mistress? It was no wonder she's been picking fights with me lately!
“Janice planned to break up with me! Just you wait, Janice!”
What do you think?
