Chapter 147
Spoiling Her
It was Kimberly and Jennifer. Kimberly dressed gracefully like an aristocrat. She smiled, "Hello, Mrs. Lily Martin."
Then she glanced at Harper but didn't greet her. Instead, she softly reminded Jennifer, who was selecting clothes, "Mom, Mrs. Lily Martin, and Harper are here."
Jennifer immediately looked over and smiled, "What a coincidence. It's been a while."
"Yeah, what a small world. I didn't expect to run into you and Kimberly here," Lily said with a distant yet polite attitude.
Jennifer smiled in agreement. After exchanging pleasantries, a hint of displeasure crept into her voice as she said, "Harper, how could you be so rude? Do you not see me?"
Harper had calmed herself down. She looked at Jennifer and said, "Mom..."
Lily quickly interjected, "Jennifer, don't be so harsh. Harper ditched her work and came out for a stroll with me. We didn't expect to bump into you and Kimberly here. If I hadn't bothered Harper, maybe it would've been you three out shopping together. It's all my fault."
"Don't say that. It's her blessing to hang out with you. After all, she is your son's wife. It's only natural."
Lily smirked. "Look at you. You're taking this way too seriously. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm her real mom. Harper is amazing. Her being married to Benjamin is a true blessing for our family. We're so thrilled. It's like gaining another daughter."
Lily's words were filled with affection for Harper. The Martin family cherished her as if she were their own family.
This undoubtedly left Jennifer feeling embarrassed, as if she'd been slapped in the face.
But Jennifer dared not refute Lily's words, saying, "Spoiling her like this will only ruin her."
"Girls are meant to be spoiled."
Once again, Lily's direct words shut Jennifer up.
Kimberly interjected hastily, "Mom, shouldn't you be happy about Mrs. Lily Martin's fondness for Harper? After all, having more people who love and care for her should be a reason for celebration, don't you think?"
Only then did Jennifer smile. She turned to Harper and said, "Although Lily loves you dearly, you shouldn't let it go to your head. Remember, you're married to her son. It's important to respect your elders and avoid getting upset over things."
Harper frowned slightly. She glanced over expressionlessly and accidentally locked eyes with Kimberly. They then stared at each other without any hint of emotion.
Harper didn't respond. Lily, however, seemed to sense something. She quickly grasped Harper's hand and whispered, "Jennifer, you're being too serious. Harper is so attentive and caring towards me, just like a daughter should be. She even treated me to lunch earlier. Having Harper as part of our family is an absolute blessing."
Jennifer's face went pale. Before she could say anything, she noticed a man approaching slowly.
With a deep voice, the man asked, "What are you all talking about?"
Harper froze at the familiar voice. Before she could recover, the man was already beside her, his familiar scent enveloping her.Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Kimberly lightly pressed her lips and smiled, "It's been a while, Benjamin."
Benjamin nodded slightly in acknowledgment before glancing at Jennifer and nodding at her indifferently.
Jennifer, however, was overly enthusiastic. "Benjamin, you are here!"
Benjamin remained expressionless, offering no response.
On the other hand, Lily smiled gently with a furrowed brow, "Kimberly, don't smile at Benjamin like that. She is your sister's husband. It's inappropriate."
