Chapter 159
Are You Divorced?
It was way past eleven.
His face was like chilling, and Harper felt it keenly.
Their eyes met, his squint suggesting a hint of aggression. "Seriously? You're shutting me out now?"
Harper shrugged, her tone cool. "It's late. You should go back."
"So, you're really locking me out? Harper, remember, we're still hitched."
"Benjamin, this morning you made it pretty clear you'd rather not have me around. Changing your tune now?"Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
"Harper, let me ask again. Am I getting in or not?"
Benjamin stood firm at the doorway, his voice chilly, filled with restrained anger. His eyes, deep and indifferent, were like the deep sea, calm on the surface but hiding a tumult below.
Harper met his gaze evenly. "If I don't, will you wipe my company off the map by morning?"
"Why would I? You got Grandpa and my parents backing you up. So, what's my move?"
His tone dripped sarcasm, a cold smirk dancing on his lips. Then, almost casually, he added, "But others might not be as kind."
Benjamin eventually turned and stepped into the elevator, disappearing from view.
The air still held his presence, and Harper stood there, wondering what he meant.
But one thing was clear. If Benjamin said it, he meant it.
"Was he blaming me for dragging Paul into this mess?" Harper pondered.
But she had no choice. She could take the hit, but she wouldn't let others suffer because of her.
Harper didn't think she had done anything wrong.
This night, sleep eluded her.
Early the next morning, Harper was already awake.
Her phone rang.
"Frank, what's up?"
"Are you and Benjamin divorced?"
Frank's voice was deep, tinged with a hint of anticipation.
Harper didn't catch it, her mind stuck on his question. She furrowed her brows and asked, "Frank, what do you mean by that?"
"I saw it online. Rumors are flying that you and Benjamin have separated or even divorced. It's all over the place."
Harper immediately opened her computer and checked. The news had been circulating since early morning, but so far, there had been no response from Benjamin's side. So, was his hint last night about this?
Harper's expression remained neutral. "Don't pay attention to these rumors."
"Alright, I understand," Frank replied softly, then asked again, "Harper, are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"I'm a bit worried. If you're not up for it today, you don't have to swing by the office."
"I'm okay. Just keep things steady with Summit Realty. I went to visit Paul last night. I think he'll talk to Benjamin. Even if we're kicked out, Summit Realty shouldn't be involved because of me." Harper changed the subject.
Frank said, "You're always thinking of others. While Summit Realty's also taking a hit, we don't want this to spiral, do we? We're innocent too. Why should we bear the brunt?"
"Okay, drop it. I know you're concerned, but no matter what, I don't want to feel guilty towards anyone."
For her, having a clear conscience was paramount.
The news of Benjamin and Harper's split quickly took the internet by storm, but neither of them had responded. Their silence was speaking volumes.
