Chapter 190 Playing Dead
The nurse came in with a tray of medicine, one hand holding it steady while the other twisted the doorknob and pushed open the door to the hospital room.
Upon hearing the noise, Freya felt embarrassed and shy, burying her head into Elijah’s embrace. The nurse hadn’t expected to see them like this…
Now she stood at the doorway, unsure whether to come in or leave. Elijah turned his head around and gave her a cold stare.
“Get out,” he said sharply.
The nurse snapped back to reality and realized she had been rash by not knocking before entering. She quickly closed the door behind her as she left. Standing outside, she patted her chest nervously. Elijah’s gaze had been too icy just now – it was enough to make anyone’s blood run cold.
“We’re married,” Elijah replied as he straightened up and fixed his collar that had become crumpled during their playful exchange.
Freya looked up at him with a smile on her lips; he was so gentle when they were alone together like this. As they walked out of their room, they saw that same nurse standing outside still looking nervous from earlier.
“You can just leave the medicine on the table in the hospital room, I will apply it to him.”
The nurse replied, “Okay.”
The nurse placed the medicine and hurriedly left. She was intimidated by Elijah. His gaze had just been too sharp. It scared the young nurse. No matter how good-looking he was, she didn’t dare to look at him for too long.
Later, they arrived at Zane’s hospital room. Elowen Noir was feeding him water.

Seeing Freya, Zane called out to her immediately and pleaded with his eyes, hoping that she wouldn’t tell Elowen about this incident. If Elowen knew, she definitely wouldn’t treat him as kindly anymore. Now he had no family left, only Elowen and Freya.
Freya nodded, indicating that she wouldn’t say anything.
Zane felt relieved.
Elowen didn’t notice their interaction. Seeing Elijah approach, she immediately scolded her daughter, “He’s injured and needs to rest properly. Can’t you take care of him?”
“Quickly sit on the couch.” Said Elowen.
Elijah said, “I’m fine.”
“How can you be fine? If you’re injured, you need to rest and recuperate.” Said Elowen.
Elijah tightly pursed his lips, and his eyes darkened.
Elowen motioned for Freya to help Elijah sit down.
Freya leaned close to Elijah’s ear and whispered so softly that only the two of them could hear, “My mom seems to really like you as her son-in-law.”
Elijah looked down at her and said, “I’m so outstanding, it’s hard for people not to like me.”
Freya was at a loss for words.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that. She looked at Zane and asked, ‘You met the person who instructed you. Did you see their face?’
Zane said, “I did see him, but he was always facing away from me, so I didn’t get a look at his face. Although she was dressed in men’s clothing, I think she was a woman. From her build and the way she spoke, she seemed like a woman. She dressed herself up as a man, probably so that I wouldn’t recognize her.”
“A woman?” Freya didn’t seem surprised at all.
“Calista Winters, Elara Montague?” These were the only two people she could think of.
Elijah didn’t say anything, but his eyes were clearly deep in thought.
“I have an idea,” said Zane.
“What is it?” asked Freya.
Zane glanced at Elijah and said, “I’ll only tell you.”
Freya got up and walked to the bedside, “You can tell me now.”
Zane beckoned with his finger for Freya to come closer. Freya looked at him and leaned in. Zane whispered in her ear, “Make Elijah pretend to be dead…”
“What?” Before Zane could finish speaking, Freya lost her composure.
“Hey, don’t get excited. Listen to me finish,” Zane soothed her.
Freya looked back at Elijah and leaned in again.
“Freya, your reaction was a bit much just now,” said Zane with a smile.
Freya rolled her eyes, “Just say it quickly.”
Zane laughed, knowing that after this incident, Elijah had completely captured Freya’s heart. This incident was not a bad thing for Elijah, but a good thing. He had gained something good from a misfortune.
“Listen, let Elijah pretend to be dead. I’ll arrange a meeting with the person who ordered me to do this. I’ll tell him Elijah is dead, and when we meet, I’ll seize the opportunity to capture him. That way, we’ll finally know who he is. My mother wasn’t killed by Elijah, so it must have been him. He killed my mother and framed Elijah, wanting to use me to get rid of both Elijah and you. This must be his plan.”
Freya thought it was feasible.
“Okay,” she agreed.
“Then go convince that icy-faced guy,” Zane said.
Freya went to see Elijah, who had a serious expression on his face. Zane Stone’s description wasn’t unfounded. Freya approached the couch and sat next to Elijah, giving a small smile because she didn’t know how to start.
However, Elijah spoke first. “It won’t work.”
“What do you mean it won’t work?” Freya didn’t understand.
“Your plan won’t work,” Elijah said.
Zane couldn’t wait to retort. “Who says it won’t work? His target is you. Once he knows you’re dead, he’ll definitely meet with me, and then we can set up an ambush to catch him.”
“At the beginning, the news wasn’t sealed. She should have known I didn’t die. Do you think she would easily fall for it?” Elijah said.
Freya suddenly realized, “Yes, the news of your hospitalization wasn’t a secret. The mastermind has probably been observing your situation from the shadows. She must have known you were fine and wouldn’t fall for it.”
Zane felt disappointed. At first, he believed the plan was flawless, but after hearing Elijah’s analysis, it was clear that the person already knew they were safe. He couldn’t help but sigh.
“We have plenty of time, no need to rush,” Freya said. She helped Elijah up. “You should go back to your hospital room and rest. You haven’t applied your medication yet.”
Back in the room, Elijah had barely sat down when his phone, placed on the cabinet, started ringing. Freya handed it to him.
He answered, and Xander’s voice came through. “Arwen Silverton is moving quickly. She managed to convince the old master to call for another shareholders’ meeting.”
Arwen Silverton was so eager because she believed she had caught Elijah red-handed.
“What time?” he asked.
Xander replied, “Tomorrow morning, at 8 a. m.”
Elijah smirked. Arwen Silverton was moving faster than he had expected. After all, she had always been cautious. This quick action showed that she truly wanted to take over the company.
“I got it,” he hung up the phone.
Freya was concerned. “You’re injured.”
“It’s a minor injury, I’ll be fine.” This matter was crucial to him.
It wasn’t just about the company; he had another important goal: to get Arwen Silverton behind bars.
She had been enjoying her freedom for too many years. It was time for her to pay for what she had done back then!
“Help me get a change of clothes. I need to go out,” he said, looking at Freya.
Freya didn’t know what he had in mind and tried to persuade him. “Whatever it is, wait until you’ve healed.”
“I need to take care of it today,” he said, his face serious, a rare sight in front of Freya.
From his gaze, Freya sensed the importance of the matter and said, “I’ll go back and get it for you.”
“Wait…” Elijah called her back.
Freya asked, puzzled, “What is it?”
