Chapter 197 Mama’s Romantic Rivals
“Why did you choose her?” Elijah asked.
Xander replied, “She’s naive, easy to control, and besides, she’s already tainted. It saves us the trouble of finding someone new.”
Elijah glanced at him but didn’t say anything else.
It was a silent approval.
In fact, Xander dared to do this because he saw through it all. Elijah didn’t really care about Elara Montague. The reason he didn’t kick her aside was twofold. First, he thought Elara Montague had saved Elijah’s life, so even though he didn’t like her, he couldn’t be too harsh. Second, she still had some usefulness.
Xander thought to himself, why is there such a huge difference between people? Elara and Freya were both women who had shown kindness to Elijah, but one ended up being used while the other was showered with love. Just look at how Elijah treated Freya, it was truly astonishing.
Indeed, some people have all the luck.
Different people, different fates.
“How are things going on their side recently?” Elijah asked. It seemed that he wasn’t keen on discussing Elara Montague.
Xander had been keeping an eye on the company’s situation. They had planted their spies in the company, so infiltrating a few people there was a piece of cake after running the company for so many years.
“Thorne Silverton and his mother are currently focused on saving the company. They are looking for feasible solutions and want to make a big impact. After all, Thorne has just taken over, and if he doesn’t accomplish two major projects that can win people’s hearts, it won’t be good for him in the company. These days, Arwen is constantly with him and has no time to take care of Colton Silverton. This is the perfect time for a woman who understands him to be by his side.” Xander explained.
His last sentence was quite tactful. But both he and Elijah understood. The woman they were talking about, Elara Montague, was the woman they had sent to Colton Silverton’s side. Elara Montague was beautiful and young. At this time, with Arwen solely focused on the company, she had no time to take care of Colton Silverton. It was the perfect opportunity to enter his life. To dismantle a family, you first need to sow discord among them.
Now, all the plans were being executed according to Elijah’s scheme. One by one, they would be broken down, shattered.
“I understand. Keep a close eye on their movements and report to me if anything happens,” Elijah commanded.
“Yes,” Xander replied. “I’ll take my leave.”
Then he exited the study.
Freya also returned to her room before Xander left. She sat on the edge of the bed, with Kai lying beside her. She played with her son and said, “Your papa seems to have a lot of admirers. First, he lost a secretary, and now Elara Montague comes along, all flirty and coquettish. It never ends. mama has to take care of you every day and still has to fend off romantic rivals for your dad.”
These days, Elijah had been discharged from the hospital and was resting at home. His wounds were healing, and he would soon be fully recovered.
Zane has also been discharged from the hospital. His injuries are recovering, and with Elowen taking care of him, he was feeling better. After handling Yolanda Steele’s affairs, he felt a bit down for a while, but now he was back on track and headed to the company. However, Freya didn’t try to dissuade him. Right now, Zane needed to rest and recuperate, but he also needed something to support him. Building his career was his current pillar of strength.

Kai knew Freya was talking to him. He stared at her with his big round eyes, like black grapes, and interacted with her, babbling without knowing what he was saying. Freya looked at her son, her eyes filled with tenderness that could melt hearts. Despite any troubles she may have, they all seemed insignificant when she looked at her son.
Full of warmth, she said, “So, do you agree with me, destroying his romantic luck?”
She gently pinched her son’s chubby cheeks.
Kai giggled. He was amused by Freya’s playfulness.
“Whose romantic luck?” Elijah walked in without Freya noticing, suddenly speaking up and startling her.
Freya frowned and turned her head. “Why do you walk so quietly? You scared me.”
Elijah leaned down, supporting himself with his arms on either side of their son, and looked at him, saying, “It’s not that I walk silently, it’s just that you and your son were so focused on talking that you didn’t notice me.”
As he finished speaking, he picked up Kai. Kai pursed his little lips and wriggled his arms and legs, enjoying being held. “Mama…”
Freya smiled. “My son can call me ‘mama’ now.”
Elijah glanced at her and then, somewhat defiantly, taught their son, “Say ‘papa’.”
“Mama…”
“Say ‘papa’.”
“Mama… Mama…”
Elijah continued trying to teach their son, but Freya couldn’t bear to watch. Kai was still young, he couldn’t even pronounce ‘mama’ properly, he just imitated the sounds he heard. How could he be expected to say ‘papa’?
She took their son and said, “He needs his formula milk.”
She carried their son and went to find Linda, leaving Elijah hanging there.
Elijah sighed. The more Freya ignored him, the more he wanted to get closer and follow along.
“I’ll help you carry Kai while you prepare the formula milk.” He said.
“Linda can handle it.”
Elijah, “…”
Did he upset her?
Linda watched the two of them and smiled, taking Kai away, “I’ll feed him milk. He’s about to go to sleep.”
Freya took a deep breath and turned to enter the room, with Elijah following and closing the door behind them.
“I heard you mention Elara Montague,” she asked straight to the point.
Elijah looked at her, suddenly realizing why she was upset. It was because of Elara Montague?
He couldn’t help but find it funny. Knowing why she was unhappy, he felt more at ease.
He sat on the edge of the bed, lazily leaning against the headboard, elegantly crossing his legs, and looked her up and down with his eyes. Freya felt uncomfortable under his gaze.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” asked she.
Elijah evaluated seriously, “Have you gained weight recently?”
Freya really wanted to shout at him.
“Come here, let me feel you, see if you’ve gained some weight.” He chuckled.
Freya turned to leave, not wanting to hear what else he had to say. But in that instant, as she turned, her wrist was caught. Before she could react, she was forcefully pulled into a strong and warm embrace.
Elijah held her tightly, whispering, “Where are you going? Hmm?”
Freya struggled involuntarily. Elijah’s laughter became even lower and more magnetic. “Freya, you’re so cute when you’re jealous.”
“I’m not…” she started to say. She wouldn’t admit it.
After pondering for a moment, Elijah deliberately said, “Since you’re so generous, I’ll go meet Elara Montague. After all, she has helped me a lot…”
“No!”
Before he could finish his sentence, Freya grabbed hold of his neck and warned, “You dare.”
Elijah chuckled lightly, “What if I do?”
