Chapter 16 Disappointment

Benson's expression shifted several times before he finally spoke. "You were the one who made the first move. I didn't intend to hurt you."

"You always have an excuse."

Sierra let out a mocking laugh as if she had already predicted what he would say. Yet, despite her expectations, a wave of sadness and disappointment still washed over her heart.

Guilt flashed briefly in Benson's gaze before suspicion clouded his features, his brows furrowing tightly.

"You seemed perfectly fine yesterday. Why would you suddenly need to go to the hospital at night?"

"It's thanks to your dear assistant, Sophie. She immediately grabbed my wound and pressed down hard, fully intending to make it worse until it tore

open.

"I only pushed her away because of the pain. But you only had eyes for her and didn't even notice that I was bleeding."

Her voice was thick with sarcasm, and Benson's expression darkened like a brewing storm. It suddenly made sense why she had reacted so strongly when Sophie touched her the previous day.

"Then why didn't you tell me at the time?" he asked with a frown.

Sierra scoffed and raised her eyes to meet his. "Would you have believed me if I had?"

Benson's brows furrowed deeper as he muttered, "Sophie wouldn't do something like that on purpose. It must have been an accident."

Upon hearing this, the last remnants of hope in Sierra's heart crumbled. Even a single word of concern from him could have eased the ache in her heart. Yet, he had sided with Sophie without hesitation.

Benson pressed his lips together and continued. “I know your injury was my fault, but hitting Sophie wasn't right. If you apologize to her, we can put this behind us. I'll even propose to you properly with a better ring.”

Sierra felt like laughing when she heard him. He spoke as though proposing to her was some grand gesture of generosity.

She shook her head and said, “I have no reason to apologize to Sophie because I did nothing wrong. “Benson, you've never understood me. I never needed a ring for the sake of a proposal. It was never about that. You don't love me, and you've never truly cared about our relationship.noveldrama

"Starting tomorrow, I won't be coming back to the company. You can be with whoever you want."

With that, she turned and walked out of the office without looking back.

Benson stared at the closed door, his rage building. He shoved the chair aside with enough force to send it toppling. The noise reverberated through the office, matching the storm of chaos in his mind.

He had grown used to Sierra's obedience and gentleness. He had never seen her stand against him like this. Beneath his anger, there was an unsettling sense of panic, as though the foundation of everything he believed in was crumbling beneath him.

Outside the office, Sophie curled her lips into a smile. She wanted nothing more than for Benson and Sierra to destroy each other. Only then would she have a chance to step in.

The Gray family had long been her target, and she wasn't about to let it slip from her grasp.

At Gray Corporation Headquarters in Vellmont City, Adrian pushed open the door to the CEO's office and stepped inside. His expression was respectful as he addressed the man seated in the leather chair with his back to the door.

"Mr. Gray, Ms. Shaw has left Siersonic. She resigned of her own accord. Before she left, she had an argument with Young Mr. Gray in the office. Young Mr. Gray was furious, but Ms. Shaw seemed calm. There was no trace of anger on her face."

Theo turned his chair around. His dark eyes remained calm and reserved, but a faint glimmer of satisfaction flickered within, as though impressed by her ability to act decisively and without hesitation.

"What about the assistant by Benson's side? Have you completed the investigation?"
