Chapter 156
Elevator Clash
Her eyes flashed with a steely glint, momentarily silencing Lauren with their fierce intensity.
Taking advantage of the pause, Harper spoke with icy detachment. "Aren't you supposed to be thrilled about my divorce proposition? Or is there something you're not telling us? Maybe you're not as eager to marry him as you claim? If that's the case, I could reconsider, but don't come crying to me later."
"You wouldn't dare!" Lauren's eyes widened, a hint of excitement creeping in.
Harper smirked. "Don't test me, or you might not like what happens next. You've seen it yourself. He's the one clinging to this marriage now. So, do you really think you stand a chance against me?" Lauren's face stiffened, but she tried to maintain composure. "What's there to be proud of? Benjamin's refusal to divorce is just a ploy to have a child with you. You think you're..."
"Ah!"
Lauren's shriek cut through the silence of the elevator lobby.
Before she could finish, Harper seized her collar, slamming her against the wall, her eyes flashing with cold determination. "Say that again!"
Lauren was stunned into silence, too terrified to utter another word, barely daring to breathe.
Harper held her gaze, her anger and annoyance palpable.
Curtis, alerted by the noise, hurried over, his eyes widening at the scene. He glanced at the open elevator door and whispered, "Mrs. Martin, the elevator's here. Do you want to leave now?" Harper didn't divert her gaze from Lauren, her tone frigid. "Lauren, don't push me. Or that wall behind you won't be your only support, it'll be the balcony."
With that, she released Lauren's collar, putting some distance between them, then turned to Curtis before stepping into the elevator.
Lauren didn't follow her into the same elevator. She stood rooted to the spot for a long moment, trying to regain her composure. Harper's behavior had seriously rattled her. For a moment, she thought Harper might even strangle her. Lauren bit her lip, feeling more aggrieved. She looked at Curtis and asked, "Is Benjamin still tied up?" "He's still busy," Curtis replied flatly.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
Lauren nodded, then leaned in to Curtis and whispered, "You know about their divorce plans, right?"
Curtis paused for a beat, his voice soft. "Ms. Davis, Mr. Martin's matters are off-limits for me. So, sorry, I can't answer you."
"Whether you're allowed to meddle or not doesn't matter. But you should know who's gonna have Benjamin's back after the split. Today's showdown, make sure Benjamin hears about it from you. I can't just swallow this injustice. And if you help me out, I won't forget it."
Curtis didn't reply, simply casting his eyes downward, avoiding Lauren's gaze.
The air hung heavy for a moment, and then Lauren's phone buzzed, breaking the silence. She shot Curtis a significant look. "Curtis, you know which one's more important for Benjamin."
Her words were heavy with meaning, but whether Curtis caught on was anyone's guess.
The elevator arrived just in time, cutting off any further conversation, and Lauren left without another word.
Soon after, Curtis headed to Benjamin's office to give him the rundown on his tasks, and he brought up the incident. "Mr. Martin, today Mrs. Martin and Ms. Davis had a bit of a showdown, and they got physical."
Benjamin's expression remained impassive, his response subdued. "Got physical?"
